  1. If ppl want to kill themselves in that way then let them get on with, I don't care.
  2. Thanx boooggy I'll also be trying the mobo outside the box as well as I think it may have shorted on the case. And if it did I wish to eliminate it doing it again.
  3. It was a print/web/ftp/music and file server. That's why the g/f got it, it was getting too **** slow as it only started off life as a file server/backup system. Now it is back in the roll for which it was first purchased, a desktop
  4. Hi I have just blown up my spare computer. I was swaping the mobo over from an Abit KR7A to an Asus A7V8X-X. Pluged everything and made sure all was good, turned on the PSU at the wall for the 1st time, turned it on at the back (i never got to actually turn the machine on). The little green light on the mobo came on for about 2 secs, followed by a loud buzzing noise from the PSU and a then after about 1 sec of the buzz, there was a loud bang. This fused the house as well as totally buggering the PSU (assume that it is buggered as there was lot of smoke coming from it.) Then the little green light went out! I have to admit at this point I was not looking and the green light to see if it went out before or after the bang, I was looking at the PSU in horror at that point. What I am curious to know is the likelyhood of having damaged the rest of the computer i.e. the cpu (XP1800) and the RAM (2x256 PC2100) and the Gfx card (ATI 9600)? Any opinions/help will be most welcome Rik
  5. You could use the multiboot DVD/CD guide http://flyakite.msfnhosting.com/ Where you could put both cd images on to the same CD/DVD. It is not possible as far as I am aware, to do what you wish. The closest you are going to get is to the the multiboot CD/DVD guide. Rik
  6. Try http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/ and http://www.ubcd4win.com/ and http://unattended.msfn.org/ These pages should see you straight!
  7. I had no experience with Batch files before I started my UA, all I did was read the guide and use my head. My UAXP cd is now almost flawless.
  8. If your computer is running very hot, try making sure that you have a case fan back and front. The front one should draw air in and the back one should exhaust it. You should not have to take the sides off and use a stand fan! Try different power connectors from the PSU if you can, it maybe that one of the power rails in your PSU is failing and giving a dodgy signal I do however agree with it_ybd's comment "It doesnt sound like its working to be honest" Rik
  9. I think that you might be getting confused between the two items that you mention. BartPE is something completely seperate from the Unattended windows XP cd rom that you wish to create. BartPE creates a disc image that is burnt to a CD and used before you use your UA XP cd. BartPE is useful for formatting the Harddrives as you mentioned and creating the C and D partions, which is how I set up my machine. For your BartPE disc, look up a tool called UBCD for windows (UBCD4Win). This when combiend with BartPE will give you all the tools you need to prepare your machine for your UAXP cd. After you have prepared your harddisc put your UAXP cd in and off you go. Hope this clears things up a bit Rik
  10. I'll give it a try next time I'm working on my multi-boot dvd. This however will have to wait until after I have finished the UA cd. Can you give an example of: ta Rik
  11. I got that error the other day, shortly afterward my DVD-ROM drive packed in living and has now been filed in the bin. Check your hardware and your media. If both are ok, then I can't help. Also if you are using a virtual machine then this is not going to be of much help either, as all hardware is virtual.
  12. If you want to get rid of the folders then you can delete them using your cleanup.cmd. See the unattended guide examples section for the syntax.
  13. Try searching for a progy called ForceDel.exe, and see if that does the job! Otherwise I can't help.
  14. For the silent install of Winzip the $prog$ folder can be used and the $Docs$ folder can be used if you want certain shortcuts to appear in your start menu or desktop. After a while I'm sure you'll learn how to create your own shortcuts using shortcut.exe, but I have only just got round to doing this after a month of doing UA. When I started I just shoved all the shortcuts that weren't created during the install in there in the correct sub folders and 'lo they were there after the install. I'm gonna stop rambling now
  15. Its my old machine that I used to use as a websever/printserver/fileserver. I'm giving to the g/f as she has just sold her laptop. She can't really complain if it's a bit slow, it's free! I can't find a control pannel for the sound card. There is the usual windows sound icon in the task bar but past that I can find nothing. The control pannel for the matox card installed fine.
  16. Hey Bâshrat Thought that I'd report a success to you. The computer has the following specs. Intel PII-400 Intel Corp. SE440BX-2 mobo 384Mb PC100 RAM Matrox Millennium G400 Dualhead Gfx card Creative AudioPCI (ES1370), SB PCI 64/128 (WDM) Soundcard. Thought I'd report this as a success to your driver packs as I ripped all gfx and sound drivers out of my UAXP cd with nlite and they're old cards. I'm using the latest driver packs. Many Thanx Rik p.s. I would have pm'd you as you asked us to do if we want to report a success but I got the following error when I tried to send it to you: This message can not be sent because the recipient does not have permission to use the personal messenger or their personal messenger inbox is full. 17. I can't see you getting any help if you are using and illegal copy of XP
  18. Thanx Yzöwl I'm still working on learning batch code. Programming and coding have never been my strong points as I am sure that you can tell! It just seemed logical to copy the code and change the file path.
  19. Try @echo off for /d %%a in ("%AllUsersProfile:\All Users=%\*") do ( if "%%a" neq "All Users" ( if exist "%%~a\Start Menu\Programs" ( xcopy /s/c/i/q/y "%%~a\Start Menu\Programs\*" "%AllUsersProfile%\Start Menu\Programs">nul ) ) ) for /d %%a in ("%AllUsersProfile:\All Users=%\*") do ( if "%%a" neq "All Users" ( if exist "%%~a\Desktop" ( xcopy /s/c/i/q/y "%%~a\Desktop\*" "%AllUsersProfile%\Desktop">nul ) ) ) goto :eof as far as I can guess all U have to do is copy the code and change Start Menu\Programs to Desktop. Can you try the above code and see if it works. I would test it myself but I don't keep any shortcuts on the desktop apart from the standard one, so there'd be no point in copying them over themseleves. Let us know how you get on.....
  20. For a link to compname.exe go here!
  21. I use a naming convention as follows vXXPCDY where vX stand for the number of times I have rebuilt XP using nlite with update driver packs and hot fixes etc. And Y is the number of times I have made additions/changes to the files/installs in the $OEM$ folder. For example I am currentely using v4XPCD7, so it will be the 4th time I have rebuilt XP from the ground up with nlite and the 7th time I have altered the $OEM$ files for that XP build. Everytime I change the XP build the latest $OEM$ folder is coppied from the previous build and it's number is reset to 1 I have no idea why I do it this way it just sort of evolved this way, but it a great way of linking back to the source files which are kept in similar numbered folders. A bit long winded but there we are!
  22. Mite I suggest calling that in a .reg file at the T-12 mark. Stick in cmdlines.txt and pray. I'll try it next time I do a build. I now have alot to remember!
  23. Is there a guide or something that teaches you how to write code like the example above?
  24. I've got a set of reg tweaks running at t-12 to sort out the quick launch bar. I can't see why other reg tweaks would not run at this stage as well(I could be proven wrong!). Just call your regtweaks file from cmdlines.txt eg [COMMANDS] "RunOnceEx.cmd" "renuser.exe Administrator Administrator" "REGEDIT /S quicklaunch.reg" HTH Rik
  25. thanx, I'll give it a shot next time I do a build and try and remember to post back as to how it went.
