Experimental Firefox 7 build for Windows 98
Giant2011 replied to felicitas's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
I installed Firefox 7.0 as an upgrade of Firefox 3.6.23 Got an error with the bookmarks and history. Places.sqlite gets corrupt. I did what was recommended calling it places.sqlite.old. Then restarted Firefox 7 again got the same error again. Probably I did something wrong. Firefox 7 is much faster then version 6. I did not have the time to test more. But I know that with a clean install everything will be all right. I installed it on a system with windows 98 se and kernelex 4.5.1. and 384 mb. Some extensions did not seem to work so I installed 3.6.23 again and got my extensions back by renaming places.sqlite to old. By the way I also got my bookmarks back. So you only need some time to test it. -

Last Versions of Software for Windows 98SE
Giant2011 replied to galahs's topic in Pinned Topics regarding 9x/ME
Hello dear drugwash. You could try to update to Firefox 3.6.22. Then you try to optimize your system. Clean it with a good registry cleaner and remove temporary files like wit ccleaner. And then you could defrag your system now and then see what happens. I also use spybot 1.6.2 works very well. You can simply download the updates from majorgeeks.com. -

Experimental Firefox 7 build for Windows 98
Giant2011 replied to felicitas's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
I have run Firefox 6.02 on a computer with a Pentium ll processor and 384 mb and windows 98 SE and kernelex 4.5.1in windows 2000 sp4 mode. But it was very slow so I had to go back to Firefox 3.6.22. But I searched on the Internet with Google and found that there where many people even with windows xp and up who had troubles with Firefox 6 and up. I have found another release and that was Firefox 7 beta 5 which I could download. this release has fixed the memory problem. But I want to wait until the release end release so I can simply install it over Firefox 3.6.22. -

Hi there, maybe it is also good to look at the new Firefox version 7 Beta 5. Version 7 seems to have a better memory management. I have not tested it yet. But maybe it is worth to do that. -
Hello there. Well for me windows 98 is much faster then the rest. I use it for years. I do not have facebook or windows life but I really can use hotmail msn and yahoo messenger. I have configured many systems, and to make them faster you have to throw away a lot of those fancy features you really never need. It only makes the system slow. At the end you get the look back of the old windows 95/98 and that is it. Yes of course windows 98 does not have all those fancy features. But it is really what you want to do with it. And finding drivers is getting difficult I must say. But for the rest it is not bad. When you get the help from something as kernelex 4.5.1. It is just an extension from the kernel Windows 7 is nothing more then and expanded Windows NT or Windows 2000.

Hello there. Well I have a wireless network with two windows 98 SE computers and I use two usb adapters from conceptronic and software from ralink. You can download the drivers here : http://www.ralinktech.com/support.php I work with this for a few years now. First I used the drivers from conceptronic. But they did not work very well. So I had to search myself for better software. And I found these ralink drivers.
