  1. To force the installer of DreamMail Pro 6.6.5.9 to use English instead of Chinese as the installer language, I created a small loader that does this when it calls up the setup program. It must be executed in the same directory in which the setup file is located with its original file name dmpro_setup6.6.5.9.exe. Here is the download link of my loader: https://www.mediafire.com/file/4bh4pybunlmr5hq/ForceEnInstall.7z/file Although some virus scanners detect this file as malicious, it is just a false-positive as always. Use my loader to force an English install, only if you trust me, of course! Cheers, AstroSkipper
  2. As I already said, fully functioning email clients under Windows XP are rare and not easy to find. Nevertheless, I have found another candidate whose latest version is supposed to be XP-compatible according to the homepage and many other sites. This is the email client DreamMail Pro. It is available in the latest version 6.6.5.9 from 05.01.2023. The program comes from a Chinese manufacturer and is of course available in English and some other languages. It is free of charge and actually being further developed. In China, Windows XP is still appreciated, as we know. I did a short test. It installs successfully under Windows XP and runs there properly as far as I can see in a few seconds of testing. Rather unpleasant is the installer, which strangely can only be opened in Chinese. Here is the link to DreamMail's homepage: https://www.cy-email.com/ and its installer: https://dl.cy-email.com/dm6/Download/dmpro_setup6.6.5.9.exe Greetings from Germany, AstroSkipper
  3. Unfortunately, I have to vehemently disagree, especially from a linguistic point of view. Latin and Greek are languages on which German is inherently based, for almost 2000 years. Anglicisms in German, especially coming from America, are rather artificial, less than 100 years. This cannot be compared in the way you have done. However, further explanations would go beyond the scope here and are off-topic. And by the way, I have studied Latin.
  4. The installer of Pegasus Mail 4.81 beta doesn't work properly under Windows XP, indeed and unfortunately. I reported it to the technical support of Pegasus via email. I'm curious to see if anyone gets back to me and if it's of any use.
  5. The current version, Pegasus Mail 4.80, is XP-compatible. I could successfully install it on my real Windows XP computer, and it runs as expected. At next, I will try the beta version 4.81.
  6. Here is the download link of Pegasus Mail 4.51: https://download-us.pmail.com/w32-451.exe Cheers, AstroSkipper PS: Didn't see that the link was already posted. BTW, many old files are on their server which are not listed anymore on their download site. Trial and error is the way!
  7. You're right! The PM forum is a great source for research. I look up there very often to find solutions for new or old problems when they befall me.
  8. At school, we (my generation) learnt to avoid any abbreviation. When we did it anyway, it eventually led to bad grades. It was even so extreme that not even the German abbreviation u.s.w. or etc. was allowed. So much for "frowned upon" versus "uncommon"! Just a little tale from my life! Furthermore, this is probably also a generational problem. The younger people, especially the youth, are linguistically contaminated by Anglicisms and many of them no longer really know the written German language, which inevitably leads to the increased use of abbreviations.
  9. I didn't try the recent version of Pegasus Mail but it is listed as XP-compatible on their homepage. If it really can't be installed, then they haven't updated the system requirements on their homepage. Anyway! Here is the quotation of their system requirements:
  10. Spoken for me only, New Moon and Serpent are the browsers I love to use as often as possible. It's fun and a respite from the Chrome world. And the extensions are unbeatable. Long live UXP!
  11. In the German language, it is rather frowned upon to abbreviate anything. In the English language, it is common, especially in forums, but actually a comment should be coherent and understandable. On the other hand, I see clearly why an abbreviation was used in that case. By the way, I don't click on every link that is offered to me unless my curiosity and thirst for knowledge is aroused.
  12. Ok, then you really meant article 3.
  13. You think PH = Production house? -> article 4
  14. It's definitely not the negative, decadic logarithm of the concentration of hydrogen ions in a solution. But very funny, indeed!
  15. I was a bit confused, too. I am German, and English is not my native language, of course. When I read this comment, I thought PH is an abbreviation for "people here". But then, and only if I'm right, shouldn't it actually read "When PH stop working"?
  16. Hello @Mathwiz! To be honest, after the recent changes to Gmail & Co. it has become more problematic to find a fully functioning email client on Windows XP. There are still a couple of XP-compatible email clients but whether they support all email services or most recent protocols has to be researched or tested. Anyway! I found one interesting, well-known (first release in 1990) candidate for you. It's Pegasus Mail v4.81 with Gmail OAUTH2 support released last month (January 2023), at the moment as a public beta (see below). Here is the link: https://www.pmail.com/betas.htm and the download link: https://download-us.pmail.com/w32-481-pb3.exe. It's free of charge and on their homepage, Pegasus Mail is listed as XP/Vista-compatible. Quotation from their homepage: More information about Pegasus Mail v4.8x can be found here: https://www.pmail.com/v48x.htm Short quotation from there: And a list of its features: https://www.pmail.com/overviews/ovw_winpmail.htm Cheers, AstroSkipper
  17. To be honest, I am not surprised at all ...
  18. @Snowshoe! However, the address https://ms.kartkrew.org/ms/api/games/SRB2Kart/10/servers?v=2.2 exists and can be accessed by IE8 while running ProxHTTPSProxy: ProxHTTPSProxy's log is fine, no errors: Cheers, AstroSkipper
  19. Totally forgot to mention! This version is the most recent. Furthermore, I changed a bit the entry in the config.ini file: ### Ignore SSL certificate verify, Use at your own risk!!! ### Proxy setting still effective [SSL No-Verify] fe2.update.microsoft.com *.12306.cn https://ms.kartkrew.org/*
  20. ... Leave that envvar empty/don't use it at all, so that your ISP connection is used DIRECTLY for the cert revocation check (which is performed over plain HTTP); in any case, only the secure connections the game attempts should be redirected to the TLS proxy, i.e. ONLY the HTTPS_PROXY envvar should be used... Just my 2c, of course... Agreed! Do not use http_proxy=localhost:8081 and try again! BTW, the address https://ms.kartkrew.org/ms/api does not exist, neither in IE8 nor in New Moon 28, i.e. leads to the well-known 404 error: Same error in your logs!
  21. Hello @Snowshoe! I could successfully connect to https://ms.kartkrew.org/ using IE8 with ProxHTTPSProxy (part of my package ProxHTTPSProxy's PopMenu TLS 1.3 3V3) enabled: To connect successfully, you have to edit the config.ini of ProxHTTPSProxy under the section [SSL No-Verify]: Cheers, AstroSkipper
  22. In my article "ProxHTTPSProxy and HTTPSProxy in Windows XP for future use", you will find a download link of Proxhttpsproxy 1.3a in the section 11.1. Archived Downloads {obsolete}.
  23. Hello @Vistapocalypse! WiseVector StopX does not provide more details about the hardware requirements, neither in the program documentation nor in the FAQ on their homepage. I own additionally an old computer with an Athlon XP 3200+ CPU which comes with the SSE instruction set, but lacks of the SSE2 feature. I will test WiseVector StopX on this computer the next days, when time is available, of course.
  24. Best regards. Back on topic! A few days ago, I had a similar problem with wget. Among other things, my self-created batch file should download a certain file from a server which leads to an error. I was able to fix the problem by adding an option to wget that disables the server certificate check against the available certificate authorities. With the option --no-check-certificate, wget was able to download the desired file again without any problems. Curl is a similar program which is able to download files from servers. It uses SSL/TLS protocols which can be controlled by different options as for example --sslv3, --tlsv1.2, --tlsv1.3, --tls-max and so on. Furthermore, curl has a lot of proxy options: --proxy [protocol://]host[:port] Use this proxy --proxy-anyauth Pick any proxy authentication method --proxy-basic Use Basic authentication on the proxy --proxy-cacert <file> CA certificate to verify peer against for proxy --proxy-capath <dir> CA directory to verify peer against for proxy --proxy-cert <cert[:passwd]> Set client certificate for proxy --proxy-cert-type <type> Client certificate type for HTTPS proxy --proxy-ciphers <list> SSL ciphers to use for proxy --proxy-crlfile <file> Set a CRL list for proxy --proxy-digest Use Digest authentication on the proxy --proxy-header <header/@file> Pass custom header(s) to proxy --proxy-insecure Do HTTPS proxy connections without verifying the proxy --proxy-key <key> Private key for HTTPS proxy --proxy-key-type <type> Private key file type for proxy --proxy-negotiate Use HTTP Negotiate (SPNEGO) authentication on the proxy --proxy-ntlm Use NTLM authentication on the proxy --proxy-pass <phrase> Pass phrase for the private key for HTTPS proxy --proxy-pinnedpubkey <hashes> FILE/HASHES public key to verify proxy with --proxy-service-name <name> SPNEGO proxy service name --proxy-ssl-allow-beast Allow security flaw for interop for HTTPS proxy --proxy-tls13-ciphers <ciphersuite list> TLS 1.3 proxy cipher suites --proxy-tlsauthtype <type> TLS authentication type for HTTPS proxy --proxy-tlspassword <string> TLS password for HTTPS proxy --proxy-tlsuser <name> TLS username for HTTPS proxy --proxy-tlsv1 Use TLSv1 for HTTPS proxy --proxy-user <user:password> Proxy user and password --proxy1.0 <host[:port]> Use HTTP/1.0 proxy on given port --proxytunnel Operate through an HTTP proxy tunnel (using CONNECT) Frankly, I don't really see the need to use curl with ProxHTTPSProxy. It should also do its job without this proxy in Windows XP. About programs with curl embedded, I can't say anything detailed. These programs would have to be specified more clearly. Maybe, @Snowshoe can explain more detailed what kind of programs he referred to, what he actually wants to achieve with these curl programs and why he needs a connection established by ProxHTTPSProxy, including the command line input or other execution commands which leads to the error. In any case, the curl option --ssl-no-revoke prevents the cert revocation check with the server to be connected. Are these the droids you're looking for? Probably not!
