I's not necessary related to Metro... Many of the so called "modern" websites seem to use those low contrast themes. Add to that the already small fonts (12 px or even smaller) and the result is just a disaster in terms of accessibility. This website says it all: http://contrastrebellion.com And: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_accessibility

IPB Update July 2013 (to version 3.4.5)

You can change everything through CSS. I've just applied some custom CSS settings in Firefox for MSFN and the forum looks like this: CSS =/= speed CSS can be very slow too, especially if it's bloated or poorly written. -
I don't think that changing the drivers will make any difference. Skype 6.3 for Windows 2000 is available in my archive (Windows2000/Programs/Skype_Windows2000.7z).

I misread 5.3 for 6.3 Is there any reason why you're not using Skype 6.3? It should work correctly.

When you hover a username with mouse you get this window: but the problem is that there's no way to use it with a touchscreen device. Tapping on a username just redirects you to the user profile. On the old board instead of mouse hovering there was a small button next to the username so it so it was possible to use it without a mouse too. -
@xper It says "enter or "select" but there's no option to enter a custom amount of money to donate. I've sent a small donation through your signature link.

No idea why it doesn't work but I can confirm that Skype 5.3 6.3 itself does work correcly in Windows 2000 with UURollup-v11 installed. Edit: Fixed a mistake.

IPB Update July 2013 (to version 3.4.5)

The topic description was always available on the older board version as far as I remember... At least I used them in several of my topics. Now those descriptions are gone The older one was cleaner though:http://web.archive.org/web/20130530085213/http://www.msfn.org/board/ -
Just in case someone doesn't remember how the old skin looked like: http://web.archive.org/web/20130530085213/http://www.msfn.org/board/ I'm not sure what the exact reason is but for me it looked much more "clean" then the current one. Maybe it's because the background colour was more solid? Some fonts were also a little bit larger. I personally don't mind if there are differences between the two as it's probably not easy to modify the current one. Good readability is the only thing which concerns me. If possible please take into account that too small / low contrast / blurry fonts are never good for anyone and are especially difficult to read for people with poor eyesight or other eye problems. Just as an example - a gray font on a grayish background in quotes is particularly hard to read (already mentioned this in the other topic). Is there any reason to use Google Web Fonts for the top menu? The rest of the board uses standard system fonts so I think that it's kind of pointless to download a font just to display a single menu. The font used in the menu ('Lato') also doesn't look very well on a CRT monitor with ClearType disabled (the browser is Firefox v22).

I find fonts in "quotes" hard to read. Would it be possible to increase contrast between the font and background? -

When you've got time please check the board under IE8. There are strange graphical glitches on the left border of the site when scrolling, and also some images aren't displayed at all. -

I agree that the most important thing is to fix the database problems and have the forums online all the time but I also hope that the old theme (or at least something similar to it) will be reimplemented I found it rather easy for eyes and very easy to read. It was also characteristic for the MSFN board. At the moment everything looks very similar to what you can see at many other forums. -
Could anyone explain or recommend other sources which explain in details about how to use text-to-speech function in Android? I must say that at the moment I know almost nothing about it. What I'm interested in is to be able to (for example) open a website and let the TTS engine read it loudly. Is this possible? I've installed one of many TTS applications from Google Play but it doesn't seem to be possible to use it in the web browser. Does the browser also have to support such application in order to work? I've done some basic search in Google but wasn't able to find any really useful information on the subject. Most of the sources I've found are focused on technical issues and development of TTS but don't explain how to actually use it in "real life".

Could anyone recommend a usable (and preferably free) e-mail client for a 7" Android tablet? The tablet is Samsung Galaxy Tab (the old one) so the application must support Android 2.3 and shouldn't be too heavy since the tablet isn't a speed daemon. There are a lot of different clients but most of them are designed only for small screens. I'd like to have something which can utilise the 7-inch display and work both vertically and horizontally.

I don't see Control Panel mentioned anywhere It's all about settings inside Firefox. Just start the browser in safe mode (keep the shift key pressed), go to settings, disable hardware acceleration and restart.

Please check #9 from Firefox 13+ in Windows 2000.

I've send you a PM. Try to remove it using Chrome in Windows 2000. The browser tab will freeze once the Javascript window pops up.

There are no official drivers for 210 for Windows 2000.

You're probably going to encounter plenty of website incompatibility issues when using older browsers. As long as it's not a very old computer I'd just use the newest versions of web browsers. For Windows 2000 I recommend Firefox. If you don't like it then Qupzilla (which you're already using) is fine. Maxthon also works properly. All browsers based on Chromium have the Javascript bug which (at least for me) makes them unusable in 2K. I've got an older laptop with Pentium III-M 933MHz / 640MB RAM and I use the newest versions of both Firefox and Chrome on it. Even on such a machine they work pretty well and browsing is smooth. The real problem is that the so called "modern" websites themselves use a lot of RAM and the browser can't really do a lot to help in this matter. What helps is to keep only 1-3 tabs open at once and not install extensions which also tend to use a lot of memory. In case of my main PC with 8GB of RAM I can install a dozen of different extensions, browse tens of websites at the same time and still have a lot of RAM left but on the laptop the only extension installed is AdBlock.

I haven't tried it but now it's too late I don't really think it would change anything though. I've never liked MS Virtual PC since it's much slower than the other VM solutions. Should be fixed now By the way, I'm going to redesign the whole website in near future.

My website is online again

My site has been offline for about two days. Apparently they've got some problems with their servers at http://www.zymic.com where the site is hosted. I hope everything will be resolved shortly. I used both VirtualBox and VMWare Player but it didn't make any difference That's what I was doing... but was just too time-consuming and troublesome. Especially since I normally tend to use standby / hibernate instead of shutting down the whole system so that I don't need to close all the stuff I've been working on. People seem to have quite different opinions about using older Windows on new hardware
-
Trust me, I tried everything. I tried running both Windows XP and 7 in a VM in order to use IE but as soon as I tried to use some of those ActiveX plug-ins, the whole system would crash. They caused BSODs in the host system, not just inside the VM. They only seem to work on a real hardware. Thanks for testing. Something seems to be wrong in the latest kernel32.dll I've added recently. In what situation exactly did the BSOD occur?
-
I don't think so but I haven't really tested them without UURollup so you can try...

My main PC got broken two months ago and I had to use a different machine with XP installed. Recently I've managed to fix my main computer but after using XP for a while I realised that it was the right time to make a switch. I had already used XP on my laptop for a few years before so it wasn't anything new for me. There are two main reasons why I decided to switch: The first is IE. I have to use several websites which rely on ActiveX and they no longer work in IE6 so using them in Windows 2000 was very difficult. The second is proper ClearType support. The 3rd party alternatives lack proper multilanguage support. There are some fonts to which ClearType shouldn't be applied at all (and Windows doesn't do it) but those 3rd party programs apply ClearType to all fonts unless you exclude the problematic fonts one by one which is just too much work and still very far from ideal solution. I actually find Windows 2000 more stable than XP but these two reasons (especially the first one) are crucial for me so I'm using Windows XP at the moment and probably continue to use for a long time. However, it doesn't mean that the Windows 2000 related projects are over. Everything will be the same as I'm going to continue working on USP5.1. Windows 2000/XP/2003 are exactly the same when it comes to the basic structure of the OS so everything I've been doing in reality applies to all of them.
