IPB Update July 2013 (to version 3.4.5) - BUGS Only
tomasz86 replied to xper's topic in Site & Forum Issues
Just do this: * { min-width: 0 !important;}This isn't the "proper" method since it's the slowest one but it will work I've added this style to userstyles.org. You can install it with one click as long as you've got the Stylish addon installed in your browser. http://userstyles.org/styles/96211/msfn-org-remove-min-width -
IPB Update July 2013 (to version 3.4.5) - BUGS Only

The easiest method would be to use Stylish (it's and addon available for Chrome, Firefox, and Opera). In case of Opera (12.x or older) you can also use the built-in User CSS settings I personally use Stylish with Firefox on my desktop but the built-in User CSS in Opera is very cool as it's available in Opera Mobile too (the classic version), and I don't think any other mobile browser offers such a function. -
IPB Update July 2013 (to version 3.4.5) - BUGS Only

At the moment you can "fix" the problem yourself by using custom CSS to modify the MSFN layout and disable the max-width settings. This way the site will shrink according to the size of your browser window. -
Some problems with the redirection service It should be working now. Just in case save this URL: https://googledrive.com/host/0Bw_nt4aAJIoPRmRlbmNteGZlMU0/ It should always work. I don't trust them that much too but I've got all files backed up on my local storage anyway. Even if something bad happens I can just reupload them so don't worry

One more browser to try: http://www.slimboat.com (more details here) Also small and fast but contrary to QtWeb not open-source (just freeware). And in my system it seems to be much heavier on the CPU (while the RAM usage is similar to QtWeb)

A new daily of UURollup-v11 is ready (available in the Archive). Changes: added all new files from BWC kernel 935839-v23j (not v23jG!)
-
@Hackeronte As for BWC and WB kernels, we've been using BWC kernel in UURollup for a long time and I wouldn't really suggest using WB kernel at this point. BWC kernel isn't only about kernel core files like kernel32, ntdll.dll, etc. but also a lot of other system files which aren't included in WB kernel at all. By the way, I've now got no Internet connection at home except for the 500 MB monthly data plan on my mobile phone so my Internet access is going to be kind of limited. I do check MSFN daily and read the new content, especially the one related to Windows 2000 / XP.
-
@Hackeronte The links on my website haven't been updated for a long time (except for the main Archive link)... I probably won't be able to do anything until December Please check if the update is available in the Google Drive archive. I can't understand the question Do you mean updates or other components? I'll definitely ask for help with USP5 but at the moment I'm too busy with other things to find any time to spend on Windows related projects

Windows Update and UURollup - safe match.
tomasz86 replied to ironman14's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
Short answer - No. There have been no Windows 2000 updates released through Windows Update since June 2010. If you've already installed all available packages then there's no need to use WU for downloading any Windows updates.Windows Update still works for other components like .NET Framework, MS VC++ or Office. The problem is that at the moment USP5, UR2 and UURollup are not really compatible with WU, meaning that you'll be offered official updates whose files are in fact already present in the system. In most cases this is not an issue but UURollup is a special case because the unofficial files included in it are unknown from the WU point of view. It should be possible to use some registry tricks to prevent WU from offering specific official updates but it will require a lot of trial and error testing. At the moment I'd strongly recommend not using WU as in the worst case it may simply break your system. -
It's been just a few days so I've got no definite opinion on QtWeb yet but this is what I can say at the moment: Speed is very impressive.HTML5 / CSS3 supports seems to be decent but not perfect, ex. uploading images through drag & drop doesn't work in Imgur.Changing browser identification seems to be a must as fonts are broken on some websites. There's a compatibility option and I've set it to Firefox:Identified as QtWeb: Identified as Firefox: The built-in AdBlock seems to do the job pretty well. There are some UI glitches when system DPI is non-standard, ex. but nothing serious. The whole browsing experience feels kind of choppy as there's no smooth scrolling, loading animations on websites are static, etc. but this is a good thing if you think about pure speed, RAM usage and overall optimisation More to come later.

UURollup 2013-11-15 shell32.dll issue

UURollup 2013-11-15 shell32.dll issue
tomasz86 replied to ironman14's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
Don't install that update (KB915985v2). A much newer version of ntdll.dll is already included in UURollup. If you install KB915985v2 then probably ntdll.dll gets replaced with the older version and that's why the system can't boot. You'll be able to use the Chrome installer anyway. I personally prefer to just use PortableApps to install such programs. There's way less hassle and no need to manually install each of them. By the way, I'd recommend to install also USP5.1 (you may skip this one) and UR2 because at the moment there's a huge gap between SP4 (released in 2003), UR1 (released in 2005) and UURollup (2013). -

UURollup 2013-11-15 shell32.dll issue
tomasz86 replied to ironman14's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
Hmm, I also use Virtualbox and have never experienced any audio related problems... To find out which component is responsible for the issue the best method would probably be to start everything from scratch, and check the system's behaviour after installing each of them separately. -
The Dropbox link is no longer active. The whole Archive has now been moved to Google Drive. I've updated the URL on my website too.

UURollup 2013-11-15 shell32.dll issue
tomasz86 replied to ironman14's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
This is a small issue which has been present since a very long time. Basically, shell32.dll needs to be replaced before system is restarted. The problem is that this file is responsible for displaying Windows Explorer windows. The installer can't replace the file if there are any of them open. Check this sample video: http://youtu.be/eqq8qqZTHYM -

IPB Update July 2013 (to version 3.4.5) - BUGS Only

I've recorded a short video where you can see exactly what the Opera Mobile issue is about (sorry for poor video quality...): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_kNkLqnC8cA The simplest solution would probably be to just remove this "Loading..." thing all together. -
At this point I'd really not recommend using IE5. IE files are responsible for the system UI and affect many other components and applications so, in my opinion, using IE6 files is just safer in order to avoid compatibility issues. FDV fileset should work with IE6 too I do have a Windows XP HFSLIP package but only for the Korean language version. You'd have to replace all files with the English ones. Unless you really want to choose only specific components manually and customise your Windows XP installation for a specific purpose (ex. to slim it down for an old computer, etc.), I'd just suggest using the all-in-one OnePiece Update Pack which has everything integrated.

IPB Update July 2013 (to version 3.4.5) - BUGS Only
tomasz86 replied to xper's topic in Site & Forum Issues
I'm 99% sure it's unrelated to ad blocking. This "Loading..." message appears each time you click on a link to view a forum thread. It disappears when the topic has been opened but then, when you go back, the "Loading..." message is still present in Opera. I haven't seen this behaviour in other browsers. I think it may be caused by the way Opera handles tab history - it just reads it from cache instead of reloading the pages again. Actually I don't really understand what such a message is really for. It's kind of useless if you ask me. The browser itself already indicates that a new URL is being loaded. -
This QtWeb browser looks really promising. I use Firefox as my main browser on Windows desktop (quad-core CPU, 4GB RAM, SSD) and it's usable although I can't say I like it. Still, it's probably the best out of the worst. On Android I prefer to use Opera Mini / Opera Mobile Classic since its UI is very light and fast compared to the alternatives, and I can use Opera Link to synchronise Speed Dial and bookmarks between different devices. And due to a limited data plan I rely on the Opera's data compression very heavily. The real problem is my laptop (Pentium III-M 933MHz, 640MB RAM, 5400rpm HDD). All mainstream browsers perform horrible on it. It's not only about how much RAM they use but also extreme CPU usage which makes the whole system unusable. At the moment I'm using Opera 12.x which seems to work way better than Firefox / Chromium on such an old hardware but I'll probably switch to QtWeb from now... This is my only laptop and I need to use it quite often so thank you for very much for this very useful information

I've finished moving the archived files from Dropbox to Google Drive. You find them under this URL: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0Bw_nt4aAJIoPaWJsUXQ4NGdWdjQ#list Please let me know if you can access them under the new location. As said before, I'm going to remove the Dropbox archive sometime this weekend.

tomasz86 replied to xper's topic in Site & Forum Issues
I'm viewing the forum using Opera Mobile Classic and there's one extremely annoying bug. Just have a look at this : This "loading" message doesn't only appear twice but also doesn't disappear from the screen as it's supposed to. Once displayed, it stays this way making browsing rather difficult -
I've run Avast 2014 installer again and copied the files from TEMP. I've got no time to inspect them (using Dependency Walker, etc.) now but I'll be very thankful if someone did it You can download the archive from here.
-
The installer itself can't be unpacked like that but it may be possible to grab some files from %TEMP% once the installer has been started. This requires some trial and error testing, and time to do it (lack of time is the real problem ) Just a wild suggestion but have you tried to simply install the program in Windows XP and then copy the files to Windows 2000? If it's only the installer that doesn't work then there's a change that you'll be able to start the application itself.
