Thanks for the tips The file in question is "instup.exe". You can actually set files to run in Windows XP mode using Application Compatibility Launcher (without relying on the BWC tool) just by typing the filename. This is my second try: http://youtu.be/CPtB_Devg40 One step further but still not working.

It's possible to install Windows Installer 4.5 but it just won't start so you're unable to install applications There are some other bad news. TeamViewer 9 Beta is out and the installer doesn't even start in Windows 2000, i.e. nothing happens when trying to run it. Also the new version of Avast (Avast 2014) doesn't support Windows 2000 any longer. I've tried to install it but the installer crashes. I've recorder a short screen capture video of the issue here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ac5pv0bShMI This happens with the newest daily of UURollup-v11 installed.

I've got an important announcement to tell. I'm going to transfer all Windows 2000/XP/2003 official updates from Dropbox to Google Drive. The reason for this move is that I've got now 25GB space to use on Google Drive thanks to free space received when Google merged Docs with the Drive, and also due to the QuickOffice for Android promotion. I need space on Dropbox to use for other data, and I also think that Google Drive should be a better choice for storing files offered to be downloaded publicly since there's no download limit on it (there's such a limit on Dropbox). Anyhow, this shouldn't really affect anyone since you can browse through the Google Drive archive in a similar way you can browse files located on Dropbox. I'm going to keep the Dropbox archive for 1 week from now and them remove the files once everything has been transferred to Google Drive. I've tried to get Windows Installer 4.5 to work in the past but failed You should be able to install both of them in the T-13. The installer is a standard M$ hotfix installer so you can use all supported switches. It doesn't include USP5.2 per se but being a compilation of almost all M$ official updates and some hotfixes it does in fact cover a lot of stuff included in USP5.1 (excluding probably some hotfixes but they are covered by UR2 so no real problem here). @lostrail I'm sorry for replying so late to your questions

Don't worry, that's what I've been doing for a long time I always make a backup copy of the last "final" version before starting modifying the files, and also don't make changes live but rather create a separate folder where I copy the files I want to update. This way it's still possible to check the changes online as soon as they've been done without messing around with the current public version of the website. I replace the previous files only after the new version has been completed and is ready to be made public. I also make an offline backup of all my content once a week but this is another story... In case of emergency Google Drive also offers option to restore previous versions of the files through its Web interface. Unfortunately the implementation is rather poor (compared to Dropbox) but it is there and may come handy sometimes although I'd definitely not rely on it on a daily basis.

Hmm, that's strange . I can't reproduce it in my system. Right click works fine here...

A new daily of UURollup-v11 is ready (available in the Archive). Changes: added all new files from BWC kernel 935839-v23h (not v23hG!)added videoprt.sys 5.0.2195.6833 from BWC 829884-v8some minor fixes

I don't think you can do anything with KB884872 now. One of the files included in it seems to break something in the Windows installation process. The only solution I can think of would be to install it later, after the setup has finished but this requires more control and could be done through a service pack, but not through a normal update (unless you use HFSVCPACK_SW1, etc.). I'd just leave it alone for now (too much hassle). I'm going to fix the issue in USP5.2 in the future.

I'm sorry for a late reply. The updates list hosted at my website (http://windows2000.tk/updates) was before maintained by another MSFN member bristols. I took it over from him. This is the only updates list for Windows 2000 still maintained (as far as I know).I've been reorganising the updates list and the unofficial updates listed there are unavailable at the moment. As for 829884, the file concerned (videoprt.sys) is included in weekly / daily releases of UURollup-v11 so as long as you use UURollup-v11 you don't need the separate update.KB891503-v2 - this hotfix uses non-standard format and can't be slipstreamed as it is. I'll have a closer look at it in the near future. You don't need to download all those single hotfixes if you use Update Rollup 2. The reason why UR2 isn't listed there because I can't guarantee its stability, and the development of UR2 has been cancelled as USP5.2 is going to replace it later. The whole situation is quite complicated as there's really no single universal method available to prepare a fully updated Windows 2000 system including both official and unofficial updates The closest one is probably my HFSLIP archive (available in the download Archive under Windows2000/HFSLIP) but it also hasn't been updated for a few months. Still, it's probably the easiest way to update your Windows 2000 source without having to deal with hundreds of single updates and hotfixes.

I've been using Google Drive as hosting for my website for some time and have experienced absolutely no problems at all since I switched to it, so I can highly recommend changing hosting or using Google Drive as an alternative one. The other advantage of this method is that files get automatically updated as you modify them on your computer so it's very convenient (no need to use FTP, etc.). In my case it's like this: 1. Hosting -> Google Drive 2. URL -> http://gweb.io/ (normally the Google Drive URL is long and ugly) 3. Redirection to gweb.io -> http://www.dot.tk/ 4. The final URL -> http://windows2000.tk/

UR2 does not include UR1. The topic you mentioned above is about the first (older) release of UR2 which indeed did cover also UR1 but it was buggy and incomplete. Update Rollup 2 isn't included in the updates list because it's still kind of perfect, may contain some bugs, etc. Also it's no longer developed since I want to focus on the USP5.2. You can find a full list of updates and hotfixes included in UR2 here. You're talking about downloading 70 hotfixes being troublesome but I together with acus downloaded around 6000-7000 files that way (25 files for all languages per hotfix) Instead of using the M$ website you can now download them from my download Archive (Windows2000/Updates) which should be much easier and faster.

These are actually very good questions. I've just checked them and the answer is: Use Fix100643 for KB830460 (there's no Msvcirtd.dll in PKG61984).Use Fix75015 for KB831877 (the files from Fix71169 are older).KB884872 is applicable to all editions of Windows 2000 since the files included in it are present in all of them. Thanks a lot for asking about this, since I'm in the process of updating my website and specifically the updates lists, and now I'll be able to add specific information about these hotfixes to them too

Java 6 Update 32 fails to install...
tomasz86 replied to ppgrainbow's topic in Windows 2000/2003/NT4
Remember that you can just use the official Java installer if you've got BWC kernel or UURollup installed and I'd also recommend checking my download Archive and go to Programs/Java -
You need to use the system Device Manager to install the driver. It's usually not necessary to uninstall the previous one but you may want to do it to keep everything clean

I'll try to add the new files to UURollup this weekend. Of course, all credit goes to blackwingcat for preparing the fix

Even without TRIM you'll probably not see any significant difference in normal daily use. I've had Samsung 470 for a few years now, and the drive was first used with Windows 2000, and now my friend's using it with Windows XP. I did some benchmarks after having used it for more than a year, and the results were exactly the same as the other ones available in the Internet for this drive, which means that no degradation took place. Unless the drive is going to be used for video editing or similar things ran 24/7, I wouldn't really worry about it. And of course there's huge speed difference between any decent SSD and a mechanical HDD, no matter how fast the latter is. For me the difference is especially noticeable in "normal" tasks, like starting applications, running many tasks at the same time, browsing through thousands of files, etc. There's really no comparison. I had a chance to use Seagate Cheetah 15K.7 which is probably one of the fastest HDDs available, and the difference in such tasks was still huge.

I'm going to update the package a little bit as there are several obsolete official updates in it. When it comes to the version of UURollup included, you're right. I wanted to include only weekly releases in the HFSLIP package for stability reasons but, as you know, I haven't been able to prepare any new weekly packages for a long time, thus the last weekly release included in the HFSLIP package is rather old now. Thank you That's the whole point of the USP - one full single package for installation and slipstreaming, much easier to use than hundreds of single updates. I'm focused on both Windows 2000 and XP (and also 2003 to less extent). I used Windows 2000 for a long time and now I'm using Windows XP but the only real difference in my case is that I can use IE8 to access several IE-only websites (they require ActiveX and don't work in IE6 properly any more, and yes, I'm required to use them so no choice for me here and also as I've already said before, some of them have to be used on real hardware so using a VM isn't possible). When it comes to the rest of applications I use on a daily basis, I use exactly the same programs I used to use in Windows 2000 so no difference here (except maybe for Chromium based browsers which have the Javascript bug in Windows 2000 but my main browser is Firefox so it doesn't matter that much for me anyway).

@lostrail You can use my HFSLIP archive for slipstreaming. It's available in the download Archive on my website in Windows2000\HFSLIP. The archive hasn't been updated for a while so there are several updates missing and it uses an older release of UURollup-v11. Still, it's probably the easiest way to slipstream both official and unofficial updates. The daily releases of UURollup-v11 are availably only as 7z archives so you can't slipstream them. You'd have to pack them to SFXCAB. The reason why I offer them only in 7z format is that 7z is much better compressible than (SFX)CAB and this way I can safe some disk space. Anyhow, you could just manually install the newest UURollup daily after the system has been installed. I'd suggest slipstreaming updates using HFSLIP, testing the installation, and only after that try to use nLite for optimisation. This way you can be sure that everything works correctly after using HFSLIP. You can use these true addons instead of the T-13 ones as true addons are integrated directly into the source: Silverlight: http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6777 .NET 1.1: http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6717 .NET 2.0: http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8315 The newer .NET Frameworks are integrated in my merged .NET installer but it can't be slipstreamed (only manual installation is possible). Alternatively you can use this OnePiece update pack: http://www.ryanvm.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5326 which covers almost all available official updates. After that you could install UR2 and UURollup manually in order to have an almost fully updated system. I don't really use RunOnce. If possible I prefer to integrate everything directly into the source.I'm sorry for such a late reply By the way, I'm still struggling to finish and finally upload the new version of my website. I've been spending all my free time on it but unfortunately it takes time to sort and tidy everything up (the current code was very dirty and disorganised), unpredicted problems and issues occur, etc. My current plan is to do as much as I can in order to upload it this weekend, even if it's not 100% polished. I've already spend too much time on it and want to upload a working version as soon as possible. Smaller fixes can be added later.

I'm not sure if this bug is necessarily related to Windows 2000 but I think this may be a workaround: Go to about:config and change extensions.alwaysunpack to true (source) @ppgrainbow I've checked the UURollup log file. It seems that the installation failed on adding registry changes, but the files themselves had been already copied at that point. I haven't really added any new important (if any) registry related stuff to UURollup for a long time so I think you can use the system as it is. I'm going to prepare a new daily release in the near future so you may try to install this one and see if the "access denied" error still pops up.

I've got no idea whether it will work in Windows 9x but you may also check GWConnect. It's an alternative Skype client, originally for people using screan readers, but this doesn't mean that others can't use it:

I'm writing from my phone while being on a train now so I'll try to keep this short. First of all, when it comes to my website, there's a delay (as usually ) as I didn't manage to finish the updated version last weekend, but I'm determined to finish and upload it in the next few days. @Tommy Glad that you've solved the problem with UURollup. I really haven't got time to properly test it now. The only thing I can guarantee is that I'm going to keep updating it following the new versions of the BWC kernel. @lostrail Thank you for your interest and support for the Windows 2000 related projects. 1. The HFSLIP Updates List hasn't been updated for a while but I'm working on it right now so please wait for just a few days. You're right that a lot of links to the unofficial updates listed there don't work but you shouldn't worry too much as almost all of them are indeed included in UURollup As Tommy has mentioned before, try to download my HFSLIP package which covers almost all of Windows 2000 official and unofficial updates (except a few recent ones and NET Framework which you'll have to install separately). The package uses an older release of UURollup though so you should replace it with the newest one. You also mentioned the Kurt_Aust guide, and while I do think it's very good, it's focused only on official updates and doesn't take into account the unofficial ones so I wouldn't recommend it in your case. 2. When it comes to replacing the boot logo, the best way would be to modify all four kernel files. That's all I can say now. I'll try to give more details later this week.

This looks like using 16 colour palette... What are your system display settings? Is IE6 installed? (Windows 2000 comes with IE5 by default).Does disabling hardware acceleration in Firefox settings change anything? How about trying to update Firefox to the newest version (24 at the moment)?
