  1. I don't quite understand this part of the script: If the user chooses 2, then the script goes to the install section directly?
  2. That's the same as what I described. But I'd have thought YM would be a unicode program. I don't use YM so I don't know. YM = Yahoo Messenger
  3. If you're referring to the pinned items or the frequently used programs list on the L side of the Start Menu, to stop Notepad appearing, go to HKCR\Applications\notepad.exe add REG_SZ NoStartPage = 1 Do the same for other programs under their keys.
  4. Assuming you've installed MS Japanese IME, I'd expect installing the Japanese ver of YM would be fine but you might need to select Japanese in Regional and Lang Options > Advanced.
  5. From October MS will stop supporting XP SP1 so it won't be wise to downgrade.
  6. If there's only one account besides the built-in Administrator account and you don't need to enter a pw to logon then this acc doesn't have a pw. In User Accounts you can create a pw. If there's a pw there isn't any easy way to find out what it is but you can reset it using any admin account.
  7. That happens when you're trying to share an entire drive but shouldn't when you share a folder inside a drive.
  8. I just imported the first few lines into VMWare install (no Winamp) and those entries stick after relogon. If you don't know the format of reg.exe then say so at the outset, but using another reg editor is not the solution. I tend to agree with TD.
  9. Those reg entries are already there in my genuine installation updated with KB905474. The entry "InstallNotifyShown" is not there in my reg. The settings key is a bit different. I tried yours with no luck. I don't know whether being OEM install makes a difference. Still investigating.
  10. So it was a script and not a reg tweak afterwall. Limited accounts cannot open those tools or can view but cannot run them. I've just manually moved that folder to Administrator\Start Menu\Programs\ and all the shortcuts went along and could be seen in the usual place when logged in as Administrator. I suppose you've tried moving each shortcut too in your script. When logged in as another admin account, Administrative Tools cannot be seen initially but can be immediately restored in Start Menu > properties. They can be readily launched from Run of course.
  11. qchain again... http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=79935
  12. C, the first partition should be empty, primary and active.
  13. Where is this option "Access This Computer From The Network"? The new account name should be in the Sharing tab>Permissions of your shared folder.
  14. It'd be better to post the actual data/reg key. Otherwise we won't know why it doesn't work. You can delete data in reg with the - added. Reg.exe is the console registry tool.
  15. Start_AdminToolsRoot StartMenuAdminTools Note: there's isn't one for the option to show Admin Tools but nothing inside, as suggested by your description
  16. Read this
  17. Is the wireless card driver up to date? Are you using Wireless Zero or another util? As TAiN said, create an account with password for file sharing purpose. Give this account whatever permissions as needed. Then remove Everyone group from sharing ACE.
  18. Normally you can export and import HKCR keys. But, importing as reg would not delete any excess data on the target reg key (it just adds to it), whereas importing as hive files would overwrite it. I suggest always to have a backup and do a dummy run first.
  19. Thanks mazin, appreciated your time and patience!
  20. Thanks for the replies! I've not yet tried VPC but I get the impression overall VMWare performs better than VPC.
  21. I thought you were asking about RAID. Is RAID out of the question then? If you update a drive incrementally, then it's not a true mirroring is it? You can actually copy an entire partition/drive. Are you really after a synchronising utility?
  22. 1. Yes, use WinPE or BartPE and diskpart. Some people say disk.config in winnt.sif would work but I haven't tried it. This has all been covered before here or in WinPE forum. 2. Tell us what you want to do exactly. 3. Not sure what you mean or want to do.
  23. Thanks for your help. Pls bear with me... I still don't understand what the "jibberish" code means and what the exe does. I can see the for in do loop does the countdown from 180 but what exactly does ~tmp.exe do inside the loop?
  24. Didn't work. Tried that in my laptop already updated as described. Gee's method didn't work either. Tried that in VMWare without previous update.
  25. I just updated WGA Notification 1.5.0540 (19.6.2006). It updated its entry in Add/Remove prog and here in the reg: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\WgaNotify It also updated the wganotify.log in WINDOWS, wgalogon.dll and wgatray.exe in system32 in dllcache. It left behind the Download folder in Software Distribution. Inside there's an uninstall file. I'll investigate this further. It's getting late now. I'll rename those files offline, leaving only the reg entry and see.
