Where's a good idea (assuming ur using IE and non restrictive conneciton) loosername:passwd@FTP://myadress.com:2121 Loosername = Your user name for the ftp Passwd = Password 2121 = port of the ftp server You need tu put the "@" and the ":" for this to work
Maybe the problem is at ur work, at mine the proxy is restrictive for regular user... it deny all site except the one they need to do their job. For directors it allow all site on port 80 only and for IT manager it's non restrictive.
I did those step, Clean install of XP, SP2 for IT, then windows updates. There's still a few stuff to updates like .net framwork and drivers for my dell inspiron 5160. When I click on "install selected updates" it first download everything then it install. What to do If I wanna keep installation packages that came form windows updates. I've did this one time using WUTEMP dir on my %systemdrive% but I don't find it anymore. Any ideas ? -M
@clouds: Do you really need a Windows Server, do you need and use DNS server, DHCP server, Terminal server, Active directory on a regular dailly base ???¿¿ . Ge0ph is right, you should use WindowsXP.
FireFox is very slow to open on my machine. Since I've install I really got trouble using bookmarks save on HD. one time on two it still open bookmarks with IE. Anyways I'm still trying...

We had that kind of teasing ads in Montréal. A Lot of billboard with messages like: "Kabang" , "Pow" , "Vlang" , "Badanggg" and "Pa-Towf" were everywhere for over a month. Then They put the real pub.... It was for stupid Cakes.
You can do roaming profiles, fileserving and ftp without having to install any third party software. For FTP & webserver: Install IIS from ur windows Pro CD For Roaming profiles: Create a network share ( i.e: "Profiles$" and allow full access to "ANONYMOUS USERS" group For testing purpose only when everything will be working good u'll need to renforce the security of the share. I personnally do not recommand roaming profiles. I strongly suggest that you use "folders mapping" from group policy. That way u can tell windows that C:\Documents and settings\Army20 will be "\\WinXpServer\Profiles$\Army20" and windows will not copy files every time you log on so it's faster . There's a few more "server" fonction in WinXP Like internet sharing, remote control, shutting down any pc in your network -M
It is fully possible. don't think about using active directory on XP. Tell us what ur thinkg to do with ur server and I'll post u what u need. (i.e webserver, file server, ftp, proxy)
thats not blackcomb its xp with a stardock theme it has not even been coded yet btw me was not that bad i think it was a big improvement over 98 xp is the best with sp2 What Ever ! The Link The Video
@victor888 The file winnt.sif Stay on the Cdrom/Floppy. Personnaly I think it is unless to make a lot of tryout for the winnt.sif file. If you read carfully the tutorial for unattended installation, you'll get a good file working on the first use. (specially if u use nlite) If u really need to changes and try a lot of time. I strongly suggest that you use RIS from Windows 2000/2003. You need two computers. One will be the server keeping the distribution share (with active directory) and the client will need a bootable NIC. Everything is going VERY VERY fast and U don't need to burn a cd or make an .ISO each time. If you are intrested in this solution I'll post something for you !!!
