Shouldn't/couldn't the subnet mask be 255.255.254.0 for two contigous/adjacent IP ranges like this [i'm told the first range should always be an even number]? That way machines in both ranges could see each other. Making the subnet 255.255.0.0 would make the scheme very inneficient - searching 255x255 ranges rather that 2x255 [in the case of 255.255.254.0]

you sure the permissions on the share and the permissions to the printer include all users [not sure i'm correct here - away from base - i'll check tomorrow]
-
so you want to print to your printer whilst also logged into your companies domain? I presume you must login off thier network sometimes when at home. Does it let you login even if the domain is unavailable? Do your company give you an option lo log in locally on the laptop? You menion 2 domains - do you have a server or do you mean workgroup? Do you have permission/s to take the laptop off the domain temporarily whilst at home? so many questions

I don't see what you need to configure - how do you physically connect - router/internal card in server/? Analogue ProxyX is an excellent tool for proxying through any machine. The server can control who sees the net - use group policies. Make an OU for the computers or users you wish to have no internet access, Create a new policy for that OU and edit the following: User Config. > Windows Settings > internet Explorer Maintenance > Connection > Proxy Settings > - to disable the internet put something spurious for the proxy settings. Then disable changing proxy settings too. [user Config. > admin templates > Windows Components > IE > Disable Changing Proxy Settings]

Have to respectfully disagree with you there lansing. Movie Maker makes the highest quality monvies for the compression size - I tried all others and nothing compared.

In what way compatible with Windows? Try the live CD version of Knoppix [linux]. Auto detects hardware pretty well, and reads windows formatted disks. Picks up an address from DHCP, proxy config easy to configure. Has a windows emulator built in. If your not at all comforatable with the Linux environment there's KUbuntu - designed to simlify things for Windows users - orLinspire[but I'm not sure if this is completely free].

I've got one of those too Xanin [dg834g] If the pings aren't finding thier destination - that's gotta be a phyical problem. different for the shares - that can be the PC config. hmmm... Presume yuo must be able to ping the router from all devices. Are any of them wireless? Ping your local address 127.0.0.1. This will tell you that TCP is functioning. [it does NOT tell you that your network card is functioning.] Ping your default gateway or next hop Router. This will show that the router is up. Ping beyond the next hop Router. [tracert www.msn.com] If the ping fails, the request timed out” can mean that the destination host is down or that there is no route back to you. Destination Net Unreachable will show the IP address of the Router that tried to route the packet but did not have a valid route. Since the Internet sharing works, the network is fine. Note that some firewalls must be completely uninstalled to stop them from affecting your networking. All computers should be in the same workgroup for computer browsing to function properly. Make sure the workgroup name is identical - case sensitive Make sure the computer being accessed has an account with the same name/password as the system connecting to it uses to login.

Is that correct with your ISP that your router does the DNS? Do you forward your DNS to any externl DNS then? [sounding like he knows what he's talkin' about ]

yeah - adobe reader - select text tool - select all - copy - paste hehe

Are the script corrupted? Can you run them independantly on the target machines? Have you tried stepping through them - adding pauses and running them visible??
-
Have you checked there's nothing happenning on the local machines. I've not solved the problem here yet [think 2K Server & XP Clients isn't helping - but please feel free to correct me ] Profiles are being held on my clients and overiding policies on my network. The only success i've had is to delete the locally stored profiles manually.

Hey Nath - 'our' company uses that method!!! Our local county council often moves people around like that. A person just sticking in backup tapes was one day asked to fix PC's in exactly the same manner. The person was never really interested in the job. That's what it boils down to IMHO - how interested you are. If you ain't interested there's no amount of training is gonna help. This person is new to the field - it's a huge gamble whether or not they will end up actually liking it. Unlike someone who has progressed to that level and has proven thier commitment. It's an arse about face way of doing things, with a high risk of failure. A'course the Help Desk have to assign work to the person that they're capable of doing. Building up a good repertoire in tasks that are in demand would be useful. Boning up on the basics is always a help, wherever you can get it. On the job experience is essential - it'd be good to do as much shadowing as possible. I recon overly serious training may be a bad investment on the managements behalf.

A reg patch I'd added wouldn't install because of a permissions problem and this stopped the whole policy being applied! Glad you got it sorted

I'm sure there's a wordpress plugin for that. You click a link from the shortened post to see the post in full - I think is what you mean. for example post teaser here: http://weblogtoolscollection.com/pluginblo...post-teaser-30/ or evermore here: http://weblogtoolscollection.com/pluginblo...05/24/evermore/ Search the wordpress plugin forum at wordpress.org here: http://wordpress.org/support/forum/10

I had a problem with a bad script which as a side effect stopped GPO's being applied properly. Do you use GPMC? [can help isolate errors]
-
That's certainly a more responsible suggestion than mine DigeratiPrime. You really wouldn't want a minor surfing unprotected at all anyway. I will try to remember that method when setting up private machines. In my situation working in a school, I think that configuration would be thought too restictive as very many beneficial websites don't rate themselves.

You need to install this admin pack on a WinXP machine: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...&displaylang=en ...to run gpmanager from the workstation, giving you all the additional controls of Win2003 server. Read here for more insight: http://www.petri.co.il/administer_windows_..._windows_xp.htm You DON'T need 2003 Server as stated above. I do it currently on my network.

>I haven't that problem two maybe hthree years before. I have DIMS No Diff. >Pasted Oops - what language is that! >If you mean overcklocking then it's ok. I have reseted bios setings many times. No - I mean plain old overheating running at the preset clock.

I think you need to install the VGA drivers first - then everything should appear as you'd expect. Motherboard/ VGA Adaptor make/ model etc??

Is the RAM good quality or cheap stuff - cheap RAM can be like factory seconds/has low failure tolerance And are all the errors different - or is there something common - if you share them maybe someone could help. So have you got a heatsink/fan that's rated to cool a higher spec CPU than the A600 to give you some headway? Is the CPU seated correctly - flat and with heat transfer compound thoroughly applied?
