kinda weird...
this is how only 2000/XP works or any NT above too ?

btw if pagefile is completely disabled & deleted
why does Taskmanager in process list under "VM size" shows any VM usage at all ?
same goes for Everest under Motherboard -> Memory
?

hah... that sucks for uninformed people...
thanks for clearing it up

will try
tho last time i got that yellow "attention" icon in sys tray
and popup by windows saying "vm is to low bla bla bla, windows is resizing page file size"...
funny thing now, even if my PF is deleted and non existant
System Info and Everest still report it exists and is being used
while defragmenter i use (not by MS) and Task Manager don't see the PF :S

registry editing helped (thanks !)
and yes i always hit "set" before apply
but it seems OS leaves pagefile.sys to be there, had to remove it via unlocker...
only then i could re-enter new (small) values
i wonder, if i may ask another question
when i re-entered smaller values (min 2MB, max 4MB)
can be something be done so OS doesn't automaticly starts to resize PF ?
as i only wish to leave small PF for minidumps if BSOD happens
but nothing above 1 or 2 MB, so the RAM can take everything else isntead HDD ?

so using XP SP3 Pro
tried to lower my PF to 2 MB, rebooted
OS only enlarged it
then ticked to disable it, rebooted
no effect
any help on why this happening ?

i try to run 1 prog made for winME
but it reports that PSAPI.DLL is missing
so i downloaded one from dll-files.com
but then i get error message from program
"PSAPI.DLL is linked to missing export NTDLL.DLL"
the dll can't even be registered to regsvr32
and via google i can't find any compatible psapi.dll for winME
any help ?

you would need to resource hack and change over dozen dll's and few other files
wich would probably at the end bring system breakdown and incompatibility with some apps
as i see you didn't even took time to find that out, theres realy no point to teach you

at the cost(s) of users and their bad experience of OS or games

i'd like to know why they removed it in first place ...

doubt they will ever make improved version of NTFS
maybe when WinFS becomes finished to attach itself onto NTFS

your installed size is big coz of Page File (virtual memory)
which is set up by OS itself 1.5 x your RAM (if i'm not mistaken with multiplier)
also WinSxS component adds another ~500 MB to installed size
+ some others...
people usualy use DISM to get ridd of such components coz vLite is sensitive in removing them

only with properly defragmented partition and strict placement of system files
theres no other way since after a while files get scattered around very much
and other files start to take their places (gaps) so seeking is longer

recently i removed this process and replaced it with "dummy" file that doesnt do thing and unloads fast (dud)
because verclsid started to choke my PC whenever i was opening/browsing folders with high quantity of HQ/HD images
(and no it wasnt a virus), anyways now it runs fine without it but since original verclsid validates shell extensions in explorer will it make system unstable or giving possible BSOD's in future ?
obviously before SP2, XP ran fine without it and this was implemented more for some security check
but i find that it does more damage when installed than when its not present (atleast performance wise)

o you want to install from one sometimes and the other at another time?
yeah something like that, so i can choose if i want nlited or normal XP install
i saw many people who used nLite to incorporated on DVD
XP Lite Home
XP Lite Pro
XP Lite x64
Server 2003 Lite
etc...
and user could on DVD boot select which version to install

so i'd like to have 2 XP installation types on CD (or DVD if its necessary)
something like
normal XP
and XP nlited
so i'm wondering how do people who modify installs do this ?
can it be done via some BAT script (the menu and different install type to choose from) ?

it is, open explorer.exe with some resource editor
under Bitmap section there are resources for that image (166 for Home, 167 for Pro)
you just need to replace one of them (depends what version you use)

in Windows XP
Posted
i have removed that app and replaced with "dud"
it helped me when verclsid started to cause troubles with image thumbnails in explorer
but can help you also if you have some error problems with no reason
