Oww, come on , everyone knows how 5/6 years old kids only can read CAPITAL LETTERS and only later learn to read small letters (and only much later longhand/cursive), nothing really difficult to understand. CAPITAL LETTERS ARE EASIER and perfectly suited for the dumb (or dumbed down) intended audience . Of course the third word a kid learns to read ( after MOM and DAD) is obviously HOME and the nice MS guys made a provision to avoid the kids to become lost (from the same cited article): Humanity is doomed... . jaclaz

How to solve Error 1009 DETSEC 00006008 FIX
jaclaz replied to krishnakantr's topic in Hard Drive and Removable Media
Sure, that may mean that the motor contacts are OK, but the head ones are not. The disk is probably trying to tell you that it cannot sense that the disk has been spinned up (basically to make sure the disk is spinning *something* is sent back to the PCB, in your case, since the drive is spinning, it means that this *something* doesn't reach the PCB - for *whatever reasons*). But it is as well possible that pre-amp or heads are "gone" . It is not that by issuing "random" commands you can get out of it. The exact sequence is given, DO NOT do foolish things such as issuing a F3 T>m0,2,2,,,,,22 on a drive that is NOT spinning! There are a few variations on the way to issue the "right" commands, try (after having re-checked contacts, BOTH motor and head) to start the disk, then do: At the F3 T> prompt type: /2 and press [ENTER], now at the F3 2> prompt only type: Z and DO NOT press [ENTER] wait a bit, you should have nonetheless the: message. (remove the cardboard if any) Now press backspace and on the same F3 2> prompt press the: U key (again without sending [ENTER]) What happens? You may want to try putting a piece of cardboard over the PCB and press over the contacts (both head and motor) with your fingers while issuing the U command. Here is another (rather clear) source confirming that the issue is often with contacts: http://www.overclock.net/t/457286/seagate-bricked-firmware-drive-fix-with-pics/40#post_7803284 Well, whenever you transmit data, the shorter the cable is, the better, but in your case this is not the issue, as all commands "go through" and feedback is received OK. jaclaz -
@Tripredacus JFYI, here is the final statement: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/news/press/2009/dec09/12-16statement.aspx and this is the actual Commitment (.doc format - in the evident attempt to use NOT a proprietary format ): http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/news/presskits/eu-msft/docs/microsoft%20commitments.doc Besides the "main" commitment related to browser ballot, this one §3, point (19) is IMHO worth a note: Of course, on my XP, if I connect to www.update.microsoft.com (with another browser) I get to: http://www.update.microsoft.com/windowsupdate/v6/thanks.aspx?ln=en&&thankspage=5 What happens from a Vista and successors? jaclaz

It seems to me like you are failing to see the "core" of the issue. Microsoft (AND NOT any OEM) in order to avoid further sanctions subscribed an agreement in which they promised to do something. This promise of something was NOT kept by Microsoft. The EU punished MS for not respecting this agreement. http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/03/06/eu-microsoft-pix-tv-idUSL6N0BY7LX20130306 The official statement by MS is here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/news/press/2012/jul12/07-17statement.aspx It seems pretty much linear to me. If we want to discuss the amount of the fine to be adequate/fair , or whether the "technical error" was actually a technical error or not (good faith, etc.) , that's fine , but no doubts whatever about it being the straightforward result of an obligation underwritten by MS not fully implemented by MS. jaclaz

How to get around the 2047 characters CMD string limitation

JFYI, the way the DATE /T and TIME/T behave in different versions of Windows (and in different "regional" versions) is a known "nightmare" , same happens - as an example - for "Canadian English": http://www.robvanderwoude.com/datetiment.php jaclaz -

How to get around the 2047 characters CMD string limitation

Well, then do it in a few instances, something *like*: gsar.exe -i -o -s"%BITS_DESCRIPTION%" -r"Transfers files in the background using idle network bandwidth.§My_append§" gsar.exe -i -o -s"§My_append§" -r" If the service is stopped, features such as Windows Update, and MSN Explorer will be unable to automatically download programs and other information.§My_append§" gsar.exe -i -o -s"§My_append§" -r"If this service is disabled, any services that explicitly depend on it may fail to transfer files if they do not have a fail safe mechanism to transfer files directly through IE in case BITS has been disabled." 1.inf might do. jaclaz -
The Solution for Seagate 7200.11 HDDs
jaclaz replied to Gradius2's topic in Hard Drive and Removable Media
No way (that we know about and that have been tested succesfully), sorry . That should mean heads (or pre-amp) are gone for good: http://forum.hddguru.com/seagate-7200-1tb-spinup-clicking-spindown-t12769.html but in the above there is seemingly a report about someone who downgraded the firmware and then re-upgraded it that could be something to try (of course ONLY if you don't have anything to loose OR you simply cannot afford professional recovery services). Here it is hinted instead that resetting S.M.A.R.T. may help: http://forum.hddguru.com/dead-seagate-barracuda-7200-st3500320as-t17638.html If the issue is the spinning up not reaching full speed , you can try holding the drive vertical during spin up, but this is VERY near the border of "magic".... BTW, did you check the heads contacts also? jaclaz -

I see. No, the License Agrrement *needs* to be "ticked", but there is no restrictions (at least here in Opera) for 32 vs. 64 bit. BUT there is a whole bunch of "mirror" sites allowing direct download, examples: http://freewareupdate.com/browsers-plugins/8683-download-java-runtime-environment http://files2.freewareupdate.com/download/Browsers-Plugins/jre/jre-6u43-windows-i586.exe http://files2.freewareupdate.com/download/Browsers-Plugins/jre/jre-6u43-windows-x64.exe http://files2.freewareupdate.com/download/Browsers-Plugins/jre/jre-7u17-windows-i586.exe http://files2.freewareupdate.com/download/Browsers-Plugins/jre/jre-7u17-windows-x64.exe jaclaz

If I may, about redirecting the output of batches, it is normally NOT a good idea, in the sense that you have that in the log INSTEAD of on the normal output. Using a tee command would probably be of use. See if this fits: http://code.google.com/p/wintee/ http://code.google.com/p/wintee/wiki/FAQ or use mtee version 1.1 which surely works in Win9x: http://www.commandline.co.uk/mtee/index.html jaclaz

Well, I would "assolve" Mr. Mossberg on this. Basically if you have available the XP source code (possibly merging in it the "embedded" version, which has some - sometimes MUCH better - features) and you attempt to better it (without intervention from the marketing department and kicking HARD a few a**es around) you would get an almost "perfect" OS. If you add to it a whole number of senseless features, a completely unneeded set of new subsystems, NOT adequately tested/experimented, you get Vista . If you learn by experience, refine the thingy, fix the most evident bugs, you have a Vista SP1 (which after all is not that bad - I cannot believe I am writing this) and if you go a bit ahead you will get a Vista SP2. Then comes the marketing department that starts calling the above "Windows 7" but the OS you have, while FAR from being perfect, is however a not-that-bad results, and you can later issue a Windows 7 SP1 (please read as Vista SP3 ). Now, if you add to it some nice features, increase compatibility, and §@ç#ing leave the interface "as is" you would get a better OS, Vista SP4 (which the marketing department will insist on calling "Windows 8" and promote as a "brand new OS, a complete revolution, a quantum leap, etc., etc.). BUT the thingy is essentially a (revised) Vista . You cannot really convince people that it is something new, let alone "revolutionary". So you add a completely new interface that besides being ugly, is also non-productive on at least 2/3 to 3/4 of the hardware on which people will expect it to run. Of course in the remaining 1/3 to 1/4 new, mindboggingly powerful and almost, but not quite, UNlike serviceable hardware the new interface, besides being "new" may also work, but if you are a technical journalist and write in April about a product that will be delivered at the end of October you may be tricked by the marketing people describing the half-@§§ed mish-mash as the second best thing in the world after ice cream was invented. Seriously, if you could de-componentize Windows 8, removing the senseless interface and much of the fluff, it would be easy to get a "sound" Vista SP4, there would be nothing that you would be able to call "revolutionary", you would have an "evolution" of a previous product (a rather "solid" one with a few useful missing features added) and the mentioned 2/3 to 3/4 users would be happy about it. If you prefer, a 9 year old kid would have done that, issue being that the OS was put in the hands of 5 or 6 years old children, instead. jaclaz

How to solve Error 1009 DETSEC 00006008 FIX
jaclaz replied to krishnakantr's topic in Hard Drive and Removable Media
You see , by applying torture I managed to have you report what happened before , THAT error is often caused by a timing problem, see: Just for the record, in some cases changing level from which the Z command is issued solves the matter: Hopefully by re-checking and cleaning contacts you will be able to overcome this issue . jaclaz -
With all due respect , you were not asked to think if an event was written to the event log , only to try checking the event log for it. Have you done it and found no related events logged or you did not check it because you thought that such an event would not have been recorded? If you do not do EXACTLY what is suggested AND report EXACT results, you are likely to remain in the "I'm ill, Doctor. Help!" current status : http://homepage.ntlworld.com./jonathan.deboynepollard/FGA/problem-report-standard-litany.html jaclaz

How to solve Error 1009 DETSEC 00006008 FIX
jaclaz replied to krishnakantr's topic in Hard Drive and Removable Media
No. Meaning that you may have read everything, but COMPLETELY FAILED to follow the instructions/guides. That disk is suffering from LBA0 ( and NOT BSY) and there is (was) NO NEED whatsoever to detach the PCB from the disk drive (nor use the cardboard on EITHER of the head or motor contacts). As said in the post just over yours, all you can try to do is: verify the contacts (check if they were "flattened" by using a "too thick" cardboard) clean them (as in the first post of this thread) make sure you have re-tightened correctly the screws Basically, when the disk is powered it has an "automatic" spin up. This does not necessarily mean that all contacts are OK, it only means that the + and - to the motor (power line) are OK, the contacts providing feedback to the controller may be not touching or oxidized and thus the error. Of course it is possible that *something else* is bad in the PCB , but finding and fixing this is outside the DIY field. jaclaz -

You should try this too: http://kb.macrium.com/KnowledgebaseArticle50010.aspx?Keywords=VSS (besides the "same" steps as the given link it provides also an "automatic" fixing tool). To test VSS is working you can also try the trial version of the above: http://www.macrium.com/pages/downloads.aspx Check also this: http://backupchain.com/hyper-v-backup/Troubleshooting.html a common case is some "left overs" from programs (mostly Commercial) that leave a writer or however some invalid entries in the Registry. First thing however, try running again DriveImageXML and check the event log (and post a screenshot of the specific error if any is logged). jaclaz

Hey guys, AGAIN, please, let's stop whining about nothing. Nothing happened, nothing was censored, nothing was deleted, just §@ç#ing STOP whining and or suggest SENSELESS "conspiracy theories", THERE ARE SIMPLY NONE.
