  1. Unless you got specific needs, a router is definately a good alternative. Plug everything, spend a couple minutes to configure it, and everything works. I've seen some cheap DLink DI-604 for like 20$, I've setup many friends like that and they're quite happy about it. For most people, it's the easy, hassle free solution.
  2. Weird. I just purchased 6 licenses of it last month... ? It works fine for some purposes, but personally I find it's a major PITA... I'd never install that on my PC.
  3. I wish I would have been that lucky when my server's OS HD's NTFS fielsystem went corrupt too. Slow, maybe, but at least you got most of your stuff back. Nothing I tried would rescue a single byte of data off mine.
  4. As far as my legal knowledge goes (I'm no lawyer - but I got a good one ) it IS illegal to host the files making up the OS without their consent to redistribute it. The files are compiled code, it is copyrighted, it's intellectual property (with the exception of freeware and such - and even then you might need the author's consent). As for modified/hacked files (i'm not talking about "cracks" so you don't need to pay for it). Well, again it's very arguable. If it's just a modified resource, it's most likely "ok", but as far as code changes go, you obviously had to do some reverse engineering to get there (unless you're some fscking good at guessing what numbers to put where just like that ??) and that's of course completely illegal unless you got some sort of license or agreement saying so. BUT You think companies like microsoft are really bothered by that or are going to waste time on it? It's not like you're hurting their sales, profit, public image or anything like that. They got better things to do like fight piracy. Illegal... maybe, but also tolerated, which is what really matters.
  5. I used to be a O&O defrag fan (I always disliked diskkeeper), but after trying PerfectDisk (raxco) I'm sold
  6. Your computer is MUCH below the (already quite minimalistic) system requirements for XP. Why would you want to install XP on that?
  7. The options to make them silent and such are setup as you're creating the sfx, not when you run it.
  8. Most of the time XP drivers will work fine.
  9. That's quite long. I'd look at the event log and perhaps try bootvis. Then from there we can look into it further if necessary.
  10. Well, there are other ways to install extensions too. Once this firefox version is final, I'll probably post my whole "guide" too. It's essentially a faster/simplified way, just for english versions though. Perhaps host the modified files or such too (or one big pre-made package)... Right now I'm not bothering with it too much since most of the extensions I just don't work with the new version yet. Also I remember seeing a optimized build of it but I never tried it yet (not sure if the installer and everything is the same).
  11. I'd like to know if it's tested and working on different PCs as it uses some sort of hardware id iirc. Right now I'm using autoit to open it and send the proper keystrokes to register it. It works (never glitched) but if this works fine (for more than the PC the license was created onto) then it would definately be a better option.
  12. Actually, I gave up on it a while back too. There is NOTHING to mess up, it's just too simple. Every single time I run it, I get a 6 or 7 meg folder too. And yes, this is the english version as well. I've re-read, followed by steps, tried everything and it never worked. I would have liked to get it working, but I got other priorities
  13. For kaspersky, all you need is /S (that is NOT /s) Also, copy your keyfile over as filename.key.yek if you want it to be automatically registered. I don't recall the alcohol 120% switches (I'm at work with no ways to check right now). I haven't checked for RunOnceEx syntax issues either (nor paths obviously)
  14. That's the whole point of the trial. If you can try it for a few days, uninstall and reinstall, then you'd have a "trial for eternity" version and nobody would buy the stuff. You're just on the edge of breaking the forum rules here.
  15. You're fine with the router, unless you're one of those type of people that are paranoid about outgoing stuff...
  16. 01000011 00100111 01101101 00110000 01101110 00101100 00100000 01110101 00100000 01100011 00110100 01101110 00100000 01100100 00110000 00100000 01100010 00110011 01010100 01110100 00110011 01010010 00100000 01010100 01101000 00110100 01101110 00100000 01010100 01101000 00110100 01110100 00100000 01000010 01101001 00110000 01101000 01100001 01011010 01100001 01110010 01000100 00100000 00111011 00101001 And no, it's not random 1's and 0's (funny what one can code in vba inside word in like 3 minutes ) I kept it nice and short - just in case someone with too much spare time bothers to decrypt it... Gotta give them a chance If anyone needs translation services to bits I can help
  17. Ok, then go check what the logfiles say. You can also try installing it silent from the command line (or start>run) to see if your .iss file and all is good...
  18. windiff can check for the difference (free, from microsoft). there's a bunch of others too. as for making plain file lists, i like the good old "dir > textfile.txt" (add whatever slahes you want like /b for just the filenames or what not).
  19. It does NOT have anything to do with his tweaks. His disc is properly burned as well, definately not causing the problems. You're definately chasing the wrong things (just like kennedy said) DI see no need to be rude to the guy because he didn't posted files that don't matter either. Things to try/look into: -Have you integrated any specific drivers or driver packs? (looks like a no) -Any exotic hardware? -Done any special tweaks with apps like nLite? It freezes at the hardware detection part because of driver issues, nothing else. My USB2 OrangeMicro iBot makes it do that too. Try with minimal devices connected or on a different PC. It probably will work just fine.
  20. " in windows xp endless" ? What do you mean? The way the answer file has to be written? No program will fix that, sp2 has major changes, so there are some small changes to do in the answer file, but nothing dramatic. We even got new deployment tools and documentation to help. The microsoft provided tools can make you a half decent one in no time at all, and there's plenty of nice ones to copy from on this forum. It's really no big deal at all. As for the program, well, I don't speak a single word of german...
  21. XP with a Win2K start menu? that's impossible. Perhaps you mean classis style (the best and only one worth using imho ) Most likely, you've added a registry tweak that causes that (or perhaps something you've done in nLite) as for the "WIN98 etc. and,in Control" then I have no idea what you're saying...
  22. No, it's a bootsector. Perhaps some other programs could properly integrate it into the iso image, but nero won't do that. I'm not sure how you created your iso image, but if you took all these files and added them to your nero bootable dvd it would work. In nero: -select bootable DVD -open image, enter no emul, sectors, ... -add all files to the disc -burn that's it. nothing more to it.
  23. Exact same as making a CD. change .ima to all files and select the .img, no emulation, 4 sectors...
