  1. The switches work, it's the registration that doesn't. As for alternatives, nothing's quite as good imho, especially for DVD images. As for the basic functions for CD handling, there's dozens of others.
  2. You could -use a 2nd CD -use a DVD instead -use a partition (...) add another "key" file in the root of it, and use the same method to set your new %CDRom% to whatever drive it is, at the middle of your .cmd file, and just keep going (unless you want a 2nd CD that you'd swap). Look around and you'll find it's been answered before
  3. from NeroBurnRights_eng.chm (into Nero BurnRights\NeroBurnRights if you have the CD): Also, if you want to change it:
  4. Soemhow, doing that if and only if I install manually. Running with /S from a cmd file it doesn't see it... Hasn't worked even once, yet copying it renamed always seems to work. I think there's also another way too.
  5. I'd second RegSnap Pro. Works nicely.
  6. if you just copy the key as is, it won't find it. Like I said before, you have to copy it back as something.key.yek
  7. I guess I'll have to try with the DNS service disabled then If some people use 4.4mb files with no issues, no reason why my small 1.2MB one should cause issues... Thanks Adblock in firefox works nicely, but I still like having a good hosts file.
  8. They have to enable it for it to work (it's named in a variety of ways inside ftp apps) If it's not enabled, there's nothing you can do.
  9. I always wanted to get one of those too, but they cost far too much so I got my HTPC in a cheap case instead As for finding one that ships overseas, I doubt I can be of much help... (although lots of places carry them now, I even remember seeing some on ebay) and there are other ones (even nicer) and custom built ones (a guy on AVSForum makes nice ones, anyways).
  10. I didn't think someone would want one of those... It works on some PCs, it just doesn't recognize on some, and reboots others. It seems to depend on the mobo's chipset. They aren't worth what shipping would cost
  11. Funny how some stuff gets seen as usb devices - and some usb devices plain doesn't work. We got some motherboard/usb memory stick combos that make the pc reboot upon insertion - no warning whatsoever, just like pressing reset. They're nicknamed reboot sticks now lol
  12. I actually co-owned a shop, but that was before the big pentium and internet boom (roughly 15 years ago). I moved on to something else as the demand was next to non existing where I lived. It eventually got better, but nowadays, the market is flooded with overqualified people, as jobs are getting outsourced and that the market isn't as profitable as it was not long ago. Shops do those anything jobs for 20$ here, and lots of people will do it for that much too... If you get one of those 24$/h jobs, then you're doing pretty good already. I've seen dozens of ppl in this field who can't find work. You will always find a select few willing to pay several times the market price for anything, but you can't base a business counting on them. I've had work orders for out of paper printers and such too, but it's far from always being always like that. I'm not a pessimist, I'm just saying don't count on an endless supply of people with more money than brains to make a living. Overall, it doesn't quite pay that much...
  13. This has been answered before... /S works, and copy the key as whatever.key.yek to the main program dir.
  14. He can't set inter-domain trust himself (and not between unrelated networks either). But yes, you can logon into different ones. Otherwise, you can still authenticate fine to resources onto another domain by entering domain_name\username as your user name when it prompts...
  15. To block ads too. On my list alone, I got over a hundred entries (casino and other scum ads I don't care for)
  16. Oh, some people say they make huge money like that, but like I posted, a job like you mention here cost 20$ AT MOST (for in shop, certified ppl and everything...). And even at that price people don't wanna take their PCs there... I got a hard time seeing people wanting to pay that much, especially on small jobs. Most big PC makers sending people to do warranty work on PCs don't pay anywhere near as much as some of the prices mentionned... Even businesses don't pay that much, so the average consumer... I'm not gonna call anyone a liar, but like they say, you gotta take it all with a grain of salt. @ceez, at 20$, there's tons of ppl willing to do it - who actually know the stuff. Here, drop your PC at some shop, tell them to install whatever, update everything, defrag it, and add some hardware... doesn't matter, even them will do it for that much (20$). It's not worth getting into it at all. In fact, I refuse a lot of it. I only do it for friends, and for them I do it for free as a favor (that they usually return). @rupert86 well, that's why IT/programming jobs in north america are getting outsourced too...
  17. If you only have 1 PC, and just change it's drive, than I guess it's easy to answer to that poll... I buy new HDs a few times per year and I rotate the old ones. Like, a 200GB would replace a 120GB, which in turn will replace a 80, in turn replacing a 60 that I will finally get rid of... (or keep for other purposes, depending on size/age/needs) You get the idea. It's cheaper to upgrade all your PCs like that, and it's nice to have an extra few GB on all of them.
  18. Actually, I used to do that a lot. But I wanted one that was complete and up to date. So I found the best maintained/updated lists on the web, and combined them all (including my own). Even in 0.0.0.0 format, and with not a single duplicate entry, it was like 1.2mb. As soon as you'd access the web, the network service would peak up to 99% cpu use for about 10 minutes, and take like 20mb+ of ram... I've mostly given up on it. I might make a smaller one sometime from them...
  19. You got your key, full name, admin password, and CORPORATE CD KEY on a bedroom PC, and google finds that key everywhere on the web... Hmm, makes me wonder
  20. I haven'tr tried it, but I'd guess it's like just about every other adobe product. They use installshield. Use the typical method, -R to make a .iss file, copy it back, then -s to install it.
  21. You could use a crossover cable, then you can either use a wizzard to setup your network, or set IP/Subnet by hand, and make sure you got file/printer sharing enabled and non firewalled for that one connection. Unless they're not on the web, I'd just get a cheap router instead (unless you got specific needs that makes it a bad option)
  22. Finding something that will prevent copying the whole CD directly is easy, but as for protecting copying the files on it, good luck. Your files HAVE to be openable by apps for viewing, and if they are openable to be viewed by any kind of app - then that app can save again. Most likely, you won't even find anything that can prevent copying the files directly, since the files have to be somehow readable.
  23. Some in the first post look like freeware, but aren't really... Cyberlink DVD Decoder: this is a commercial mpeg2 decoder. The fact that it's spread around a lot and that the Cyberlink isn't suing anyone doesn't mean it's free. One someone has their filters, they hardly have a reason to buy PowerDVD... Looks like nobody really cares, but I'd like to see what they say about it (I might email them to ask, just to see what they answer) Elecard MPEG2 Decoder: same thing again. There is a trial version with flying blocks on it. Or you got the retail or cracked copies. This isn't free by any means, but it's tolerated and widespread as much as the Cyberlink (and intervideo, nvidia, sonic, ...) decoders. I don't think apple and Real are too happy about people using Quick Alternative and Real Alternative... It may not cost anything and be tolerated, but it's not exactly legally free either. DivX: free trial for the first 6 months (may include things like google bar too). Too bad the xvid codec is worlds better and completely free (I don't install DivX junk on my PCs ) Another thing is, some of them apps may be free but ONLY for personnal use - not by companies. We tend to forget that sometimes... Also, there's a lot more free apps out there... Tons more. A few others I can think of... (mostly AV wise) -VirtualDubMod (and other mods), avisynth, DGIndex (ex-DVD2AVI), vobsub, betsweet, DVDDecrypter, vStrip, etc. (or just install Gordian Knot and have it all) -LAME ACM Codecs (comes in many codec packs and is very good, think latest is 3.96.1?) Acutally, there's lots of nice free codecs that arent included even in most codec packs (like those from gabest) -RadLight Filter Manager 1.4, DivXFix, GSpot, AviPreview, ... tons of small handy utilities like that -Tons of DirectShow players... (media player classic, zoom player, BSPlayer and tons more - some may have adware) -DSCaler (betas of v5 are really nice - it also does decode mpeg2) -GPL MPEG1/2 DirectShow Decoder - This one is REALLY free unlike the others -UltraVNC (and others: TightNVC, RealVNC, ...) -Tons of various HTML and text editors (too many to bother even trying to make a list) And I'm sure I'm forgetting LOTS more
  24. Over a year old but still funny
  25. Download and reinstall the latest xvid? ...
