To get the todays date as a file, you can use this, echo %DATE:~0,10% > c:\DATENOW.txt Then you'll get today's date as a file. And when you want the date BACK again, simply do DATE < c:\DATENOW.txt This works for me! If you only want the YEAR, echo %DATE:~0,4% If you only want the MONTH, %DATE:~5,2% If you only want the DAY, echo %DATE:~8,3% Change the parameters to fit your needs!

need to find 2 images in system files...
Vel Straty replied to SiMoNsAyS's topic in Customizing Windows
Talking about the post from prathapml The Japanese MSGINA says ƒRƒ“ƒsƒ…?[ƒ^‚ª’âŽ~‚µ‚Ü‚µ‚½?B and thats all. For those who cannot read it, it says, The computer has stopped. I personally like the one from the English MSGINA?I It adds a little fun to it when you find it in the middle of the night! -
Its fun once you get to know that you can fiddle around with many files using your new toy! I know I had! and still am when I've time to do so!

Learning this thing is fun! But this stuff takes too much time! That's the bottle-neck. Time is money.

RyanVM is not being rude at all! I think you're the one whoes beig rude Xeophonix.

RYU81, I guess your new here, but you gotta learn to use the search function. I've done this using the winnt.sif stuff. Just don't forget that when I did it for the JPN WinXP Pro, some of the files were broken in the LANG folder so it didn't install the JPN IME.

How to integralanguage packs into unattended XP CD
Vel Straty replied to sonofdad's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
It should just be as easy as replacing those files, but if you take a look in the WinXP Pro English CD's DOSNET.INFs and other INFs and WinXP Pro Japanese CD's INFs, there're many differences such as the INF file size. File size meaning, the JPN version has a lot bigger file size, and inside suppose for the DOSNET.INF, there're many places missing inside the ENU version that JPN version has. Maybe, if you want to include the MUI inside one CD, you must copy them the according folders. Also, for the ENU CD, you can select the language inside WINNT.sif file to use the JPN IME, but it won't install it. The reason was because some of the files were broken inside the LANG's folder. To solve that problem, I had to copy the contents of the LANG's folder from the JPN CD. -> Then it worked. Before replacing the LANG, it also couldn't install from the GUI. Tried it from the other borrowed ENU CD but same result(error). It might not exactly be what you want for an answer, but maybe will give you a hint on it. PM me if you want any help. -

Dell's Customer Service & would you buy from them?
Vel Straty replied to Dell and Rodney's topic in Windows XP
I don't know about it in the US, but I did a part time job once back in 2002. And to answer your questions, for part in Japan, A. Yes. But not just Dell. Many are just part-timers that doesn't know crap about computers. B. I've never bought a system from any company, just built it by my own, but from hearing things from friends who bought it from Dell, IT can be used. However, there're few draw backs that one must consider. The system case is in some models are not made to fit correctly. -> Meaning, when my friend tried to insert a CD to the tray, he misplaced it slightly and the CD went into the case!I think on most systems, or cases, those types of things will never happen. Anyways, build your own system from scratch. It won't give you any stupid softwares pre-installed f**king up windows and you'll know exactly what you're playing with. Many OEMs comes with a recovery disk but, that can be easily made with the guide at MSFN. If you don't know much about computers or unattended installs, then it might be your chance to learn more about it B) -
Anything is confusing at first. There's no easy way to go through it w/o trying to do so. You just gotta try doing it. I know that this might not be the answer that you want, but the easiest way that one can learn to do the unattended stuffs are all in MSFN so keep on searching and reading on. i.e. http://unattended.msfn.org/

I'll post the XPC list so that the new comers can use it and the testers by GM can also use it as well. But I doubt that not much Japanese WinXP ppl are using XPC. Anyway, I'll get the JPN version up for starting purposes since its not up on the server anymore.

There's certain things Windows needs to function correctly but any things aren't needed. I hope MS would install Windows with the least function and let the user let the services enabled or disabled. But, Windows is a consumer product aimed for novices so I guess we just have to figure out everything by our selves. Anyway, I think that if MS has those services or functions disabled at the time of the release of any Windows system, there won't be many threats aimed at the product since, for those threats to function, certain functions would be needed to be on or enabled. But for things to get going, we all need a good night rest after the long war against Windows!

Not related to ths thread but, I like your signature totoymola! I used to have many of them but disappeared somewhere.

Its not a registrty tweak but, if you just don't want to use any of the themes, just disable the themes service or delete the luna theme. Both will work for starting XP in classic theme style since if luna.theme is not there, it won't / can't load it anyways, and if the themes service is disabled, it won't load any theme.

Running BootVis from cleanup.cmd?
Vel Straty replied to Powerhouse's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
There's a proverb in Japan, "One that believes will be relieved." If you believe it will speed up your system, its better to use it. But if you don't don't use it. As Metzen says, bootvis gives you the difference in speed so you can use it to check how fast your system boots too. Anyway, I don't think it will harm you or your computer so its better off trying! -
How do you totally secure comps. from hackers?
Vel Straty replied to Vel Straty's topic in Networks and the Internet
From what I've heard, the stalker/hacker person used some sort of program that doesn't leave a trace inside Windows' log files and that he, my friend got a help from one of his fans(my friend plays music) and got introduced this retired so-called-hacker. That was the person who was helping him so I guess he won't go to the authorities. Anyway, in Japan, the authorities won't help you until someone gets INJURED or KILLED. They don't care s*** about the people anyway. They only work when the media is behind them, trying to act only as heros to the medias' and nothing more to the public. Anyway, for a fact, I don't know much about the networks or TCP/IP so I couldn't help my friend other than to watch out and stay secured at all times. But thanks for telling me baggers02! -

How do you totally secure comps. from hackers?
Vel Straty replied to Vel Straty's topic in Networks and the Internet
Thank you for your quick response Se7eNdUsT! Well, the real answer is not to use the net at all. The person that is helping my friend as I heard from him was that he didn't connect at all to the net for a year. Well, I have to use the net and my friend has to use the net for work and leisure and I need a web server. I only used a firewall with default answers with "no" w/ common sense, anti-virus and no other programs. Router with firewall, inside windows, a software firewall, IDS, anti-virus, spyware remover, e.t.c.? What else would be needed? -
Hello, I've been told by my friend today that his PC was hacked by stalkers. Yes, stalkerS. Not one but from many. He said he almost got killed because of them coming to his house. He's a good person that I know for years and never does bad things to people. He just got in sight of people that doesn't like him. And attacking the PC and getting personal information e.t.c. was one of the attacks. He said he has been using software firewalls, like the one that is sold everywhere. I don't know what he has been using, but it should be one of Norton or Macfee product, just forgot which one. Anyway, his computer was hacked and cracked or whatever it maybe called and because of it, my identity was released to those personels and from it, my PC too was been attacked also. The question is nice and simple. What is the total secure way that one can protect its PC? Any help wuld be appreciated. By the way, I have a http server on my system.

Automatically add Keyboard Layouts
Vel Straty replied to GAT's topic in Unattended Windows 2000/XP/2003
Thanks for who helped Things turned out that it was an easy thing to do after all. If someone else wants to add any foreign keyboards, i.e. 106 keys, instead of the normal 101 keyboard, all one has to do is to export the registry settings BEFORE you make the changes from the control panel -> keyboard -> update driver and then export the registry setting and compare them. The result is the registry settings that needs to be added at the unattended install part. The following is the .reg for the 101 keyboard to the 106 JPN style keyboard setting if anyone wil want to use it. Doing the same thing stated above can make the reg settings for your desired keyboard. Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\Class\{4D36E96B-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0000] "DriverDesc"="Japanese PS/2 Keyboard (106/109 Key)" "InfSection"="106_TYPE_Inst" "MatchingDeviceId"="*pnp0320" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Enum\ACPI\PNP0303\4&5289e18&0] "DeviceDesc"="Japanese PS/2 Keyboard (106/109 Key)" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Services\i8042prt\Parameters] "LayerDriver JPN"="kbd106.dll" "LayerDriver KOR"="kbd101a.dll" "OverrideKeyboardIdentifier"="PCAT_106KEY" "OverrideKeyboardSubtype"=dword:00000002 "OverrideKeyboardType"=dword:00000007 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96B-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0000] "DriverDesc"="Japanese PS/2 Keyboard (106/109 Key)" "InfSection"="106_TYPE_Inst" "MatchingDeviceId"="*pnp0320" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\ACPI\PNP0303\4&5289e18&0] "DeviceDesc"="Japanese PS/2 Keyboard (106/109 Key)" [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\i8042prt\Parameters] "LayerDriver JPN"="kbd106.dll" "LayerDriver KOR"="kbd101a.dll" "OverrideKeyboardIdentifier"="PCAT_106KEY" "OverrideKeyboardSubtype"=dword:00000002 "OverrideKeyboardType"=dword:00000007 The reg file is called from the cmdlines.txt as keyboard_JPN.reg START /wait regedit /S %systemdrive%\install\intl_JPN.reg START /wait regsvr32 /S %systemroot%\system32\kbdjpn.dll START /wait regsvr32 /S %systemroot%\system32\kbd101.dll START /wait regedit /S %systemdrive%\install\keyboard_JPN.reg And also, I did the regsvr32 for the kbdjpn.dll and the kbd101.dll incase the system needs it. (Just didn't test it w/o the regsvr32 stuffs(the to lines)). -
