  1. I donno your ISA server's configuration, but i guess its trying to block your IP(PC) because its trying to use skype, or is trying to use an unwanted program/port/etc... I don't use ISA server so I cannot say I'm accurate, but you might want to ask your IT administrator or if you can access it and configure it, maybe you want to take a look into what port its trying to use and/or the other(what ever it is) and disable that rule.
  2. Slowing it down... That reminds me of something when I used to use for the same problem back in Windows 95. It won't be of much of a problem solver but there's a DOS program that slows your PC. I guess what the program does is to make unuseful/unneeded commands inside your PC so that the computers attention will go more to the other direction. I'll look in to it. But, in the mean time, look into the below page which I found by googling. http://www.geocities.com/kulhain/ Maybe it has things you need.
  3. Thank you brucevangeorge! I'll be waiting for a good news!
  4. I cannot be sure but, OEM software is tied to the hardware. Anyway, as the last post has said, build it with your dell oem cd. I have a HP brand PC that was so messed up with many scripts etc and junks inside the OEM DVD but after long hours, I've managed to make a plain old normal XP CD by nliting it. It should get your skils up so try.
  5. Thank you Softix! And Happy Holidays! Will be waiting for it!
  6. Not really brucevangeorge. What I always do is make a backup copy of what I print by printing it to a pdf and then printing them directly to the printer or vice versa. Its like making a hard copy and a digital copy that we can search back later. The second reason is that we do many business in and out of the states that varies on laws different from the states. Its like an auditing. So, does any one know of this kind of program that can print and do digital copies at the same time?
  7. Hi All, I'm looking for a program on the client side or the server side that can be installed to make digital copies of all the printing jobs. Everyone knows that if you print to a, say HP Deskjet 955c printer, you only get a paper printed copy. Or if you use such programs like PrimoPDF/cutePDF which makes pdf documents for you. But one can only do one job. Is there a software that automatically does two things at once automatically? I've looked up on this forum for a similar post but was not the one I was looking for. (http://www.msfn.org/board/digital-copy-printed-documents-t43676.html&mode=linear) i.e. a user prints to a printer, but also makes a digital copy also with the filename with the date and time made together saved elsewhere on the hard drive of the client or the server. If the solution is a freeware, it would be better. I need support for WinXP and Vista. I currently do not have a Windows server up and running but it can be done. Thank you!
  8. What you should do is re-nlite with all the settings you've done in the settings file except, don't remove the firewall section. Its because this is the easiest thing that you could do. Or would adding a 3rd party firewall be of any use? Like try installing outpost 1.0 that is free of use and is very lite to your system not ike the norton stuff.
  9. I don't know what kind of system you're trying to build but, when I can't find the driver for my system for an OS, 1. I look for it in another Windows OS and backup that driver up for the use for the OS that i'm trying to build. 2. If that doesn't work, for your system, try installing Windows XP in it. It usually has the default drivers that you need in it with the name of the chipset. So, write down the chipset name and, if possible, backup the specific driver for the chipset from the WinXP system, hoping that it will work in your Win2k3 system. 3. If that doesn't work, or, before number two, what you should've done when you wrote down the chipset name, find it on the chipset manufactuers web page for that specific driver. Hope it goes alright.
  10. I guess you're talking about a client that can access the server and use the applications installed on the server right? If you go in a straight forward way, I think what you're talking about is a thin-client network or some thing like that. Google "thin client" about it and you might find useful pages about it. A not recommended way is to use a terminal server patch or somthing like that that will enable multiple remote desktop connections instead of one connections on an WinXP Pro computer. I hope you know, but usually when you use a remote desktop, and connect to a WinXPPro machine, the other user who is using the computer at that time, regardless of local user or remote user, will get kicked out. A patch like above will let you connect up to about 3 users at once without others being kicked out. If you wanna do the above patch method, you might want to get a good machine and install all those apps that you use on that server computer. FYI, Be warned that the above patch method will not be good for security and multiple uses of a software at one time by many people will not get software makers happy, likely, a violation of the eula stuff. If you just want to have your old computer be a file server, then just make a shared folder on the server and redirect the my documents folders by editing the registry or by right-clicking the My Documents folder and redirecting it to the srver shared folder. You can also redirect the local settings, application data folders etc on to the server by only using the Winxp Pro comp on the server. (This i've done this long time ago...) Or just get a Windows Server 2003 OS and it'll do the job. I donno about the new Windows Home Server if it can do the above stuff though. Good Luck on it!
  11. Why don't you use the Microsoft Office Document Imaging? Don't know about your scanner but I think most of the scanner can output to a tif file. If you haven't done anything for opening the default document for a tif, then some kind of Windows XP software should come up which can put multiple tif files into ONE file. If you need to create a TIF file to open that default winxp app, then create a tif file from MSPAINT program and then open it. You can then open the tif file in the MSOffice Doc Imaging, and then from FILE->INSERT FILE then add your files to make it as one TIF. If you have a document feeder for your scanner, then if you use the above prog., then the output will be one single TIF file with many scanned images in it.
  12. You can get it inside the package of XPCREATE. Look inside this forum if you don't know about XPCREATE. XPCREATE is quite useful too!
  13. From what I've been hearing, I don't know why people like Alienware. I just had a bad enough experience letting me lose thousands of dollors because of that company shipping the PC Dead On Arrival. Took me over 1.5 months to return it through lawyers and credit card companies dispute as they never admitted that they were wrong. Later when I checked their HP about that same notebook that I bought, they changed it to a different model. I guess they never admitted that they ships defective PC over the phone but internally they admitted that they had to do something. With Dell, I lke dell better than Alienware. But having those call centers over seas where the CC people just can't speak English is bad enough to not buy Dell when yo uhave problems like defective PCs. Personally, overall Dell>Alienware. But design wise Alienware>Dell. I wonder what'll happen with Alienware. Would it get worse or better. Should've made one by my self.
  14. For checking the RAM, maybe you can use a utility called MEMTEST, which can be googled and downloaded as an ISO so it can be burned to a CD. To use it, just boot it with the burned memtest CD.
  15. I would go for the Win XP Pro. I have used quite a bit of Win Svr 2003 but mostly for a home use on a little network, I would stick with Win XP Pro because of the hassles that you have to do when converting it to a workstation. But personally, I like the server one. However, this goes for all versions of Windows, is that I hate those things that come installed along the systems bought at stores / places. You know those useless progs that just clogs up the system. Trying to uninstall those just wastes your tie considerably. (but if its work, and you get payed by the amount of time that you spend, then we all have to like those useless programs!)
  16. Check out this page for your reference. I think it has what you need to accomplish your needs. Advanced JavaScript Stuff You might want to use the parseInt() and isNaN() functions or whatever you call them inorder to check if it is a number or not. and if your numbers, since its a phone number, might include hiphens "-" and / or "(", ")" inside them, use the str.replace() function to accomplish it. Have Fun!
  17. Don't buy PCs from alienware. I ordered mine, got many delays, and when it arrived, the system doesn't even boot up. Just no nothing on the screen. I talked to the tech. support guy but with my configuration, it uses SATA HDDs but he didn't even know that SATA HDD does not use jumper settings. Anyway, if you can wait for a long time, talk with the peoplez at Alienware for a long time on the phone(meaning a very long time) and you have a good experience on how to make and diagnose computers, and also if you want to challenge if you can fix this scrap metal with numerous amount of free time, please feel free to order it from Alienware. You know, they are just Pro's at wasting your valuable time.
  18. Hi All! I'm looking for a search and index program that can index mp3 files or any kind of files. I have a web server for home use only that other people in the house can access to. Because of the amount of CD's that the house has, it was better to have it as a mp3 file as they just keep their CDs in their rooms. Would there a good program or script(php, cgi) e.t.c. that can do the job described above? Also, I don't know any php cgi but only javascript so if there is a good site tell me please.
  19. As said above there're two versions of OEM Windows XP home. 1. An OEM Windows XP Home can be bought with a hardware(graphics card, floppy disk, motherboard, e.t.c.) at a store like the retail but it is not in a special box.Sample OEM package | Sample Retail Package 2. An OEM Windows XP Home is installed with a copy of it along with the PC that it came from. Many usually doesn't require validation since its activated by the vendor so that its easy on for you and the vendor. Also, the recovery disk provided by the vendor cannot be modified if unless you've special ways to, and using it will also recover the B**S*** programs that you'll never use provided by the vendor (which just makes the PC slower ). Activation: Even if you use the same hardware to reinstall Windows XP Home OEM again using the one that came with your PC using the WPA.DBL that has been already activated, some PCs will need to be activated again. In my case, it never works even following the extensive how-to's of activation e.t.c. for WPA.DBL stuff. SO there are Retail, OEM (with a piece of hardware), OEM (with a brand PC) which requires activation. And VLK with no activation.
  20. You should've made a backup... but no more of that anyways. You can look up for a hard drive salvager company and ask to recover it. But it'll cost you $$$. I think the way that the salvager company does it is to buy a new hard drive identicle to the one that got trashed, opens the HDD up, retrieves the disk from the inside, replaces it to go in the new HDD. But this solution may only work if the disk that got trashed is not broken. I know that backup is a pain in the a** but losing everything gets speech-less so next time you should do it. Good Luck man
  21. seapagan> Thanx! But although the service is disabled, many of the progs still want to utilize the "mdnsnsp.dll" according to Outpost FW. I think I'll just uninstall it and see how it works.
  22. Thanx I think I gotta FW them as you say ...
  23. Hi! I recently downloaded the iTunes 5.0 and got this DLL inside my system. mdnsnsp.dll it is located inside C:\Program Files\Bonjour with the following files dnssd.dll dns-sd.exe mdnsNSP.dll mDNSResponder.exe Are these necessary for Itunes to be running? Because I do not want it accessing the internet from time to time.
  24. var xmlhttp; function loadXMLDoc(url) { /* Mozilla */ if (window.XMLHttpRequest) { xmlhttp=new XMLHttpRequest(); xmlhttp.onreadystatechange=state_Change xmlhttp.open("HEAD",url,true); xmlhttp.send(null); } else /* IE */ if (window.ActiveXObject) { xmlhttp=new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP"); if (xmlhttp) { xmlhttp.onreadystatechange=state_Change xmlhttp.open("HEAD",url,true); xmlhttp.send(); } } } function state_Change() { // if xmlhttp shows "loaded" if (xmlhttp.readyState==4) { if (xmlhttp.status==200) { document.location.href="toc.html"; // document.getElementById('T1').innerHTML=xmlhttp.getAllResponseHeaders() } else { // document.location.href="toc.html"; } } } loadXMLDoc('toc.html'); Thanx for suggestions ppl! But I found out the way by using javascript XML or whatever its called when I searched for many hours!
