Dude! By the looks of that look you don't appear to have an AV, that's just DANGEROUS using XP, you should consider downloading one of the internet, and a FW would be good too, even if you don't know much about managing which programs should have access to the internet or not, you would at least see which ones are connected and then you could block the ones that are obvious viruses or spyware. Try AVG as an Antivirus, its free. And look for a firewall that would suit your needs, personally i like Agnitum Outpost (free), but many people prefer Kerio Personal Firewall (also free).

A new version of Windws XP, that seems a bit desperate from Microsoft, just like seeing them selling a bundle of XP and Office2003 for 50USD in Asia. I don't think Longhorn will be such a benefit to the OS world, from all the reviews I've read, it seems "overweight", it appears to consume as much memory and processor resources as a recent 3D game, so instead of making an OS with better performance, we make one full of iCandy... nice job

Yes Remote Assistance tab is enabled, every service associated to Remote Assistance are running, either on manual or automatic, we both have the firewall on the background but it is disabled, we checked for that port you said, and it doesnt show on the open ports, what do i have to do to enable it if it is closed? i removed Windows Firewall with nlite when i installed it, could it have anything to do with that?

I'm running a nLited version of windows xp sp2, i didnt take any of the services off because i need this feature, a friend of mine and me, we were trying to see if remote assistance works, when i press in the menu ask for remote assistance, nothing happens. He has a fresh install of XP, then updated to SP2, we kinda started to have this problem once SP2 came out, could it be that SP2 completly blocks the remote assitance feature? I need help please

redder replied to arablizzard2413's topic in The Poll Center
Windows XP PRO SP2 because find it more "stable" than home edition, but a it sucks more resources. still its worth it -

EUROS arent that easy to copy, it takes time and a good version of photoshop then you have to go to the internet and.... oops im getting over my head LOL jk:P:P:P , the spanish are very good counterfiting EUROS, at least thats the main source for counterfitted bills here in Portugal

Feigned said: The only thing SP2 brings that is good, in my opinion, are all of those hotfixes and updates, as for those "features"... well, i take everything off with nlite, so i dont know the diference at all

Should Microsoft do a complete recode of Windows?
redder replied to gamehead200's topic in The Poll Center
hmmm... i dont know if they should recoded windows source code, what they should do is start windows from scratch, instead of building version on top of version with traces of IE3, IE4, IE5, Win31, Win95, etc, etc... and they could also make a big list of components which we could chose before and after installing windows, something that would give us total control over the OS we paid so much for!! -
Change to Mozilla Firefox

Riight... so basicly, BetaSmith, you're calling a costumised version of XP a new OS and you're asking people to beta test it for you, but... isn't this illegal??? You're changing a copyrighted OS, and givinh it a new name, do you have any sort of contract with Microsoft? Isn't this against EULA?

no hardware probs here, the problem is very simple, i like to have my computer up and running well, i value performance, i dont do tweaks, and the features that are included on XP and 2K3 are, for the use that i give to the machine, useless. ive finished installing windows 2000, its working well, so far. the last OS that i had working was XP home, and it destroyed "C:\WINDOWS\System32\Drivers\pci.sys", i tried to replace it expanding the orignal using XP cd on recovery mode, and since i wasnt happy with XP i decided to format. I have a theory about XP installation... if you get an error of any kind during the installation, dont proceed, and reinstall it again. sometimes i have probs with XP because of my BIOS configurations, its rare but sometimes it doesnt boot because of that, then i put the BIOS on safe defaults, and change them back to what they were like... and XP boots again. my machines were all very weird. at least now its running 2000 and my graphics card runs with awesome speed, ive been using omega drivers for a few weeks could that have something to do with it?

i dont know how long you can keep windows after installed, friends of mine can keep it for months, if i keep if over 2 days its a miracle. and today i just got fed up with it, i mean i looked at the choices that i had (XP/2K/2K3) and they are practicly the same thing. i dont understand how is it that the same operating system can be made three times, each version worse than the last. nt5 is simple and stable, looks like 98 and works like 98 with new managment features, xp is 2000 with "new" features such as including every damned kind of software from MS that we could had found on the internet and it wouldnt ask as much resources like xp does, 2k3 honestly i cant tell the diference between that one and xp, its the same OS with a new face and logo, with the same network and security features included in xp. so basicly i have the same OS to choose from between variations of 2gb that they will take on my HD. ive been in front of my desktop computer for the whole day trying to figure out wich one ill install. ive even thought about switching back to the safe 98 which never got a virus by not doing anything as soon as i connected it to the internet, and thats a 150 dollar diference between suposed "safer" OS. im so angry right now that id write the whole post on caps just for to see how angry i am, im tired of seeing my windows self-destructing. which would you choose and how long does it last for you?
