  1. @atomizer That's why this is a forum, we can agree to dissagree, I just have a bit of problem understanding what you ment by freedom. If you're saying that the internet shouldn't be regulated then I agree one hundred percent, but it is regulated and by who we least expect, not the government but Internet companies, there is only one way for us to find out information quickly (Search Engines) and the companies who own them have the power to regulate what you can or can't find. The internet will not be free ever again, that stopped once it became comercial, if we want a free Internet we better start creating our own wireless world wide community like CB radio lol. @Ripken204 You're right ripken204 the government takes away our freedom, if you have polital parties, books and songs which are considered illegal then where is the freedom?
  2. Ok... In my opinion you're all acting paranoid. Google isn't that big in domestic grounds, that article sounds as if it was making connections which aren't there. Why is everyone so afraid of what Google is making? When Microsoft launched its tentacles over the computer world no one seemed to mind, I remember when the latest thing to do was to have a hotmail account. We're forgetting one detail, Google is mainly used by Internet users who spend more than 4 hours a day on a computer, the normal domestic user finds Google to be complicated, Google is more attractive to professionals and hard core internet users and not your avarage Joe.
  3. I think some of them went through, but like it has been said the RIAA has been using some really orthodox practices. This side market exists for a reason don't you all think? I mean if food was extremely pricy many would probably try to grow their own, the ones who knew and were able to would most likely try that. No company should be able to close down a website for any reason, only the police or government officials of the country where that site is hosted at should be able to do that, what I think that has been done by the RIAA is the purchase of torrent trackers giving us the impression that they were removed due to a legal fight in a public court room. I know this isn't a good argument but how can a software companies expect one person to pay 500 US dollars for a product like Photoshop when in a country like Brasil, a teacher will only earn 60 US dollars a month. I don't see it as stealing, everyone knows that it isn't the normal domestic user who pays or supports a software company, it's the big bucks companies who can afford to buy corporate licenses of their products, and those companies are usually in the US, Europe and Japan. Maybe that is one of the main reasons why China is where they are today, open source OSs are big there. Now music and movies... Well it's sort of the same thing, I download songs from the Cocteau Twins online, and why? When I went to the store to look for their CD it costed 40 euros, and movies... Well I don't download movies to burn from the Internet, when I do its because I can't find them anywhere else, but last I heard when a person goes to the movie, they will pay for a ticket and still be forced to see ads in the movies, people will obviously feel cheated, and then after paying for the ticket they are forced to see an ad saying no to piracy and movie downloading. Just some contradictory visions of the world, not everyone lives in countries with a big minimum wage, in Portugal the min. wage is around the 375 euros a month, thats a gross value, it's hardly enough to survive, no one in this country has a legit piece of software that they buy unless it comes with the computer, it is a question of culture and of income, it also depends on the person. Just my opinion.

@At0mic: Well I'm not that informed on that subject, but what we all know is that there will be better ways to get your computer to run Mac OS X without problems in 2006.
  6. Don't forget the "2010, The Year We Make Contact"
  7. That was really useful, but it also proves that no one was paying real attention to the pool
  8. I see... And how can one know if it is protected content before downloading? Yeah I know its the play dumb defense but it could happen, but setting that on the side. What kind of evidence can one present to prove that user X downloaded Y file from Z computer and what does exacly the US law state on that? If those files were exposed on purpose isn't that "creating" crime? Why should the person who downloads the file pay when the real responsible is the person who has it on their computer allowing it to be "shared"?
  9. In order to be sued you'd need to commit a crime, and I as far as I know, using any sort of protocol online to transfer information isn't illegal. So I doubt there is such a thing as someone being sued for downloading files over the internet. And another thing, how can one person be sued for downloading whatever it is? Let's say you buy a warez copy of a product, who is breaking the law? You or the person who sold it to you? I have no knowledge of the law so whoever can answer these please do and enlighten us all!!

Apple using Intel x86 processors x86 compatible Mac OS X
  11. @Press any key: You are aware the the RAM of laptops is shared with the graphics card right? And Vista is still in beta, it is pointless for you or anyone to be running around looking for a computer which will run it, when it is still in beta version, stop popping pills cuz you're a lil electrified still, drink some herbal tea and relax without being in front of a computer, you need it.
  12. Hell yeah of course I use Paint!!! Just look at what I can do with it!
  13. There are people who love it harunaksoy
  14. You mean only the page shows up without any images? What if you use another browser??
  15. What?? When 95 came out the buzz was all the same, but at the time aparently everyone had money to spend on new hardware just to run a new OS from M$. I doubt that M$ would lower their prices on their previous OSs, just look at ME or 98SE, which the last time I saw for sale was right next to the XP package, and XP was cheaper... So it will depend on how things are when Vista comes out.
  16. I hate that thing!!! Only 10 year olds like it according to me and many others lol, tell me what you think about this freak of the internet world who ruined one of the best theme songs of a movie.
  17. I can't find that IBM keyboard you talked about, the 101 keys keyboards I can find are old with a AT(I think thats what it is called) plug, I just think it is wrong to mess around with the international standards for one software product from one software company, I mean have you considered the manufacturers of another OSs? If you made a OS would you like it that the computers they were shipped to had a constant reminder of another OS?
  18. @matt5108: Well, I can't exacly say that Yahoo! IS better than Google or vice versa, because both offer distinct and good quality services, it would be unfair to say Yahoo IS better because I use Yahoo for everything, and don't even touch Google unless I want to search on my own country, which is a shame that Yahoo hasn't expanded to Portugal. The only problem that I find very very irritating using Yahoo is the help service, which doesn't exist, what does exist is a huge FAQ page that doesn't help much. Now my Yahoo side is like wolf demon, he said what I wanted to say lol, and said something similar to what I said on another thread about Google. It is in my opinion that Google only has its popularity for the same reason as Crazy Frog, advertisement. Besides the common American user will not use Google, because most likely doesn't know much about it, Google offers a good service to who has a good computer knowledge, Yahoo is more consumer orientated offering a good service for users without a vast computer knowledge, thats the major diference in all of them, there are people who don't even know how to copy and paste, for them Yahoo is simpler because it offers a "without having to know how" service, while Google doesn't. Just look at the Blogger service and the 360° Yahoo!, anyone but really anyone can use the 360° and why is that? Because it doesn't have any costumizations at all for the service, its what you see, just add thngs to it, of course that brings out the dissadvantage of costumization, but it is easier for many to use that instead of Blogger who asks the person where does he/she want to host their blog, which for many users would be a mindless task trying to figure out what does that mean. Just another difference I wanted to share with yall lol
  19. Welcome to MSFN Windstone, I'm sure you'll be a great asset to this forum
  20. I am 0% addicted to Addiction Survey's. What about you?
  21. Google or Yahoo? Well... Google may reach a broader international audience, bigger than Yahoo, but like on any search engines, there are things one finds and the other doesn't. Now the services each offers, personally I don't use My Yahoo! as a start page, it goes directly to Yahoo.com basicly the front page of Yahoo could be used as a image definition of what a web portal should be, you just have everything you could possibly need on the front page (weather, news, entertainment, mail, etc..). Advertisements? Get real, its the year 2005 not 1994, publicity online, spam and phishing are from a long time ago a uncontrollable thing which will exist forever, Yahoo! Mail pages have ads, Google Mail has ads, you can block image ads using free ad blockers, or in my case Agnitum Firewal, which is free. The avarage user doesn't even care about those, only geeks and nerds like us. Yahoo Messenger vs. Google Talk I'm an avid user of Yahoo Messenger, not having tried Google Talk yet, I've read that it is based on a open source IM program, the great thing about Google Talk its the cross platform feature it offers which Yahoo doesn't, at least it doesn't offer the same features in its Mac and Unix versions that the Windows version has. Also from what I've read, thats mostly where Google scores points, where Google Talk doesn't offer features like avatars /images, webcams, chatrooms, on their messaging program I'm sure it won't take long for that to happen because after all it is still beta and it is the first version of it. Where MSN loses and Yahoo Messenger wins (Not sure about Google Talk you guys tell me on that) its the system resources hog that MSN Messenger can become. Google services vs Yahoo services Google offers in number, less but in quality just as much as Yahoo. There are just to many for me to go into details. Just to mention a few let's say the most obvious, their webmail service (POP3 in Google's case), and programs like Konfabulator and Google Earth, distinct and just as useful as we all know, also Yahoo Music Engine (which is just like iTunes) and Blogger (not a offline program but used world wide) In my opinion there are no winners, just like the war of the browsers doesn't have an end, the war of search engines won't as well, but Google is going far, to me my biggest concern about Google is their Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, very dubious, but if I chose Google, I could not possibly do everything with Google services like I do now with Yahoo services, Yahoo has everything I need and Google doesn't, its just as simple as that. My 2 cents
  22. @Andromeda43: I don't know how you use your keyboard but I don't need the Windows key to access my Start menu or run Windows Explorer with my keyboard, you can add keyboard shortcuts to every program shortcut in the start menu. I'll look up on the IBM thing you said, but aparently it does not bother you at all to have that extra worthless key on your keyboard, it's not about the key having the windows logo, its annoying because it is there where it should be an empty space.

    Windows XP

That's what happens when you do everything "legally"
  24. Hollywood, Microsoft align on new Windows More unecessary "security features", which would only benefit users Personally I think this is beyond restricting the users rights, if this carries on then you won't be able to burn CD's or DVD's on your computer without having to pay for a subscription of Windows.
  25. Just because someone uses Windows it doesn't mean they should have to use the windows key. We're going against Keyboard standards and layouts, there aren't any windows keys on them.
