You could use tie-wraps there to attack the cooler to the VGA card.

Just normal DDR2 800MHz, you don’t need the RAM to be on the same speed as the FSB and 333MHz (667MHz DDR) will be 1:1 with he Quad pumped FSB (1333MHz /4=333MHz). For the CPU you would do better to buy a Q6600, and yes it’s 1066MHz FSB, but there will be almost NO difference if it had 1333MHz FSB. Some motherboards have the multiplier unlocked. For example a Pentium E2180 works normally on 10*200MHz =2GHz, but also 6*333MHz =2GHz. In this case we go from a FSB on 800 to 1333MHz and there we can see the difference in performance. The only thing that could be a problem is that the CPU uses more power when idle (like we have computers to stand idle the whole day ). Intel uses Speedstep technology that drops the multiplier down when idle, using less power and generating less heat. Differences between the 8800GT and the new, still not released 8800GT, are 16 shaders. So the GT uses 112 shaders and the GTS 128 shaders. nVidia for sure is waiting till almost all there older GTS and GTX GPUs have been sold in December...

Change or reseat the ATA cables. Test your HDD(s). I’m, almost sure it’s not your PSU like other state above. If that doesn’t help, a big chance your mobo or VGA card is on it’s way out...

Sounds like overheating or not enough juice (voltage). What info does your BIOS give for Vcore? What cooler are you using? Any temperatures readouts that are too high (e.g. 80+ oC)?

For you, I’ll use Intel from now on . I did this for some reasons: Intel used to put on there chipsets codes that started with an "i", and they still do. Intel’s name is build up out of capitals, INTegrated ELectronics. So, if we mix those 2, you get iNTEL.. To help you on your way, start with this: - Set memory speed as low as possible - Set HT speed to 3x, it’s now on 5x - Voltage a bit higher of the CPU, let say 0.1Volt - Backup data that you can’t afford to loose! Now download Clockgen and start to raise the bus speed in steps of 100MHz. Remember the settings you are using, so you have a value when the computer crashes. If the computer crashes you know you have hit the limit with that CPU and it’s voltage. By setting the voltage higher you can achieve most properly a higher OC but can DAMAGE your CPU, so you have been warned! This is just the first steps of overclocking, we will help you out more when you have played with it . Test it like Kelsenellenelvian told you... By the way, that must be a 3800+ CPU.

Well, real-time animations and so the previews in 3Dmax or Lightwave3D for example can be faster, but those previews are way more simple then in-game rendering, besides, the mesh (objects) rendering is still be done by the CPU… And you need only up to 30fps any way. They fooled you there, PhotoShop uses only the 2D functions of the VGA card, and yes it uses DirectX in 3D. But still SLI isn’t going to improve much the speed of PhotoShop and even less on the new dual cored CPUs from AMD or iNTEL, let alone on 4 cored CPUs .
