If you need to do some modifications for every new user account you might as well use some Group Policy logon script. These scripts are run automaticly at logon for every user, plus completely hidden to the end-user. These scripts are saved in Windows\System32\GroupPolicy\User\Scripts. No need for any helper dlls

So all Corel does for business is creating new copy protection methods, as changes between PSPX and PSPXI are minimal. They better start working on improving their tools section. Drawing Letters is still hard to deal with for example.

I personally use my own Java 6 installer. This one is a bit bigger, but I prefer installation speed above filesize: SunJava6JRE.7z (13.0 MB)

I don't have any issues using Firefox 2.0.0.1 in combination with Sun Java RE 6. Might be an issue with Sharks switchless installer?

@msspam, please remove links to your packages from this topic. I don't like people taking over my stuff while its not even based on my program, not on MSFN and certainly not on my site. If you rip all audio and video plugins from the Nero program you better use some free burning application. Better than any WAREZ imho. About the Fatal error bug. I have it had on my system also. It's caused by an serial verirfication problem. You might check the Registry for the Nero 7 Serial. If you change the name of the key to an improper value Nero 7 will start and asks you to reenter your registration info. I hope Nero can fix it in next version. @wiak, I'll look into adding Nero Burning Rom shortcuts. Nero CD-DVD Speed 4.7.0.0 is already included.

98 FE + 98 SE + ME updates + patches + (hot)fixes
Acheron replied to MDGx's topic in Pinned Topics regarding 9x/ME
Hi MDGX, Thanks for your hard work. Also thanks for Anonymous author of the Windows Shell Lockup Patch! Can you please tell me howto create custom patches using SED files? I'm willing to translate some patches to dutch and place them on my site. -
...good reasons for open sourcing Win9x ! If your conclusion is true, why this forum exist then ? We all know that *official* Win9x support is dead, but many enthusiasts are still working to continue its development... as already sayd, switching to open source could help other projects too ! Another good reason to still try to maintain Windows 98SE running is that projects like ReactOS may probably work on getting Windows 98 compatible in a couple of years, so you need to have a working Windows 98 machine for reference testing, kernel debugging, etc.

CHKDSK is there to remain backward compatible with older DOS software. Also many Windows tutorials reference the CHKDSK commando @Jimmsta: msboot.asm ; BUGBUG -- 7 Dec 1992 -- chuckst -- changed version back to 5.0 to ; avoid bug in PC-TOOLS DISKFIX OsVersion DB "5.0"; DOS version number This is an nice example of the way Microsoft tries to keep everybody happy

New Nero 7 micro builds are available on my site: http://www.updatepack.nl. I have also uploaded an updated SDK, including stuff to create Micro builds
-
Nice. I'll just have to look if some Nero 7 system files are updated or not. Meaby they fixed the installer or something. I have taken a look at the Nero website, they have decreased their selling price. Hope they go even lower in price range. You can actually put the Nero 7 demo key under Upgrade options to get more off.
-
Please note that I give no support on customized builds. You might rather start your own topic for that question.
-
This is probably caused by an unfinished uninstallation. however to make sure your computer doesn't reboot add the /NORESTART switch to the commandline.

I'm working on Nero 7 Micro release. After that I will post a Nero 7 Lite SDK. It will include all stuff to build your own copy. To all, download links are working again. Please visit my site for more information.

DJSLeepy can't handle many people downloading at the same time, but has unlimited traffic.I'm now uploading to my back-up hosting so I can hopefully provide extra bandwidth tonight. I would like to have some kind of Torrent Tracker in future like RyanVM has on his site, but FreePGS won't allow any torrents. So I have decided to move my complete site to a new host, provided by bibabu. A real hosting solution with plenty of possibilities to grow. Thanks very much

I wrote some scripts or small programs in foxpro - the only language I know a bit. I'm also able to transfer localized portions of VXD files and 16-bit DLL/EXE files from old localized file to new updated file that it is in English only. It would be nice to have somebody who could write such tools with much higher professionality and much quicker than me. Regarding the most popular Windows SE servicepack, there was no update for almost a year already. Gape wrote me few days ago that he will wrote longer message so I will see. I think it would be much better to have complete list of necessary files for all (fe/se/me/95) servicepacks before localizing all files to all languages - because it not very good to go back and localize again different versions or additional files. It would be hard work anyway. Unfortnately I see not many people wanting to work on the new servicepacks. Petr My translation differs from yours. I thought I had to see the text blocks as kind of containers. So all I had to do is move my dutch code into it. However if this is not ok I have to rework my entire Service Pack. I'm still working on a combination of a kind of 98Lite project with totally upgraded components. A service pack is not my first priority. This weekend I'm also working on transforming newest Nero 7 bloat update to Nero 7 Lite.
-
I have succesful tested newest Nero 7.5.9.0 Lite. For Micro I'm working on automating some stuff so release time should decrease. You have to wait one more day I guess.. However if everything goes fine newest Nero 7 Lite will be available tonight
-
Petr do you localise these files manually? Or do you have some patcher to automate things. Meaby we can work on a new Windows 98SE Service Pack for all languages! You have come a long way already

I have tested winboot.98s Dutch on my system. It does work as far as I can see. I compared it with mine translation. Might be interesting to spot differences: winboot.98s: 054D0h: 5347 6A02 "SGj." 11EA0h: 5347 FA14 "SG.." 2F574h: 0600 1600 0001 C400 0000 1900 2B00 8900 A000 A900 AE00 "............+........." 2f63eh: 5347 C400 "SG.." io.sys (mine): 054D0h: 5347 5802 "SGX." 11EA0h: 5347 9F12 "SG.." 2F574h: 0600 0A00 0001 B700 0000 1200 2500 8800 9F00 A800 AD00 "............%........." 2f63eh: 5347 C300 "SG.."

Great Idea, although I can't realise it in time. I kind a lost my interest in this project. I only distribute updated versions of the existing project from now on. So no new features. If someone wants to continue this project I'm more than happy to help get things on track.

Nice to see an PS2 emulator becoming stable. Just as with the PSX it just takes a lot of time developing. I remember Gabest (from Media Player Classic) was working on this project also

98 (FE), 98 SP1, 98 SE + ME SHELL32.DLL fix
Acheron replied to MDGx's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
I have converted the patch to Dutch. However I ran into problems using Restorator 2006 on the patched shell32.dll. Might be because of non-matching Resources, since anonymous patch creator used an build different than the Q313829 one. I switched over to old Reshacker for the job, but after I finished its job I still can't use Restorator. you can download the Dutch version here: Shell98FixNL.zip. I will convert other unofficial patches to Dutch soon, so I can include them in next Service Pack or Intergrator CD. P.S. Two questions: 1. Does this fix also include the over 2GB copy file patch? 2. If yes, do I also have to install the 2GB kernel32.dll patch? -
What suitable installer to choose for the SPs?
Acheron replied to Petr's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
Do you mean WiX? MS Installer has also MSP format for distributing patches only. I have not looked at at all yet. Petr I don't think WiX is the way to go now. There's no good Visual Editor for it, so your basically working with XML files. Also there's lack of documentation so you have to learn a lot about the internals of MSI first. InnoSetup is I think the best tool, it has many addons, like ISTool and ISForm Designer and it does work on Windows 98! If you really want to go the MSI way you can look at some commercial tools. Some do offer also a freeware version with limited functionality like AdvancedInstaller. However this tool does not work on Windows 98 and is not free. -
What suitable installer to choose for the SPs?
Acheron replied to Petr's topic in Windows 9x Member Projects
I have created a few installers myself using Inno Setup. The installer uses an easy scripting method. Not that flexible, but you can create custom pages and use Pascal Scripting to do stuff under the hood However for most stuff you don't have to use any code at all. Inno Setup has been developed for many years now and has a free license. So you can actually alter the source code if necessary. Installation Speed is very fast. About the backing up of replaced files. This is possible, but you have to use some scripting. You can find information on the inno news server, inno documentation, or somewhere else online. Nero 7 Lite is my masterwork created with Inno Setup available for public. - full support for Win95/98/Me CHECK - test of OS version and OS language CHECK - complete backup of all replaced files, registry keys and INI entries Possible through scripting - full restore of the previous state after uninstall Possible through scripting - support for all languages in which Win95/98/Me exist CHECK - ability of conditional installation depending on CHECK -- OS version CHECK -- OS language CHECK -- certain file versions Possible through scripting -- certain registry entries Possible through scripting - good compressing ratio CHECK - easy to learn and use CHECK - free for any use CHECK - maybe also the possibility to create patches, something like MSPs for Windows Installer. CHECK Petr if you up to the task of creating a new Service Pack for Windows 98 at least I'm available for help on the Inno Setup part P.S. I have no experience with NullSoft Installer Script. So this post is not very objective. -
What "problem with HDD's over 60 GB"? I don't know about any remaining problem? Please report it. Petr I was confused about FDISK and FORMAT. Do you have an alternative for the MS-DOS format tool?
