  1. Nope, but try to download and install Group Policy Management Console
  2. Can't really recal exact file name for the default policy but one db file is for standalone and another is for domain controller, so you have to be carefull with that ... anyway, try these articles http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;226243 http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...kb;en-us;267553
  3. People, don't misslead other people with advices about not installing SP onto existing OS, because, you just prove your lack of knowledge ... installing SP onto existing OS is reccomended and OK! No one on the face of earth would reinstall production servers with SP integrated into his/her CD! So please don't spread these stupid conclusions because you can create more harm than you even can imagine. Service Pack is to be installed, of course it's reccomended to make a test run on the same or similar configuration prior to the deployment ... any issue with service pack is considered as security issue, and that call is free with MS support!
  4. If that's the only restriction you've made, use secedit command to reset policy to its default
  5. I've seen these errors always when either CD is damaged or Memory is bad. Even thoug you've tested the memoty, it doesn't mean that it's ok ... try replacing the modules (possibly with different producent) and try again ...
  6. I think you should call Microsoft Support, all calls related to the security and service packs are free of charge ... another good thing is if you have TechNet Plus subsription, then you have 2 free support calls in the subscription year ...
  7. Check this link http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?eventid...inlogon&phase=1
  8. These kind of errors are usually related to bad RAM ... so chech the RAM modules, and try to replace 'em
  9. I've heard bunch of crap regarding hard drives but this one, never lol why 24 hours? lol ... anyway, if that's true, then how comes old server built on IDE tehcnology can still work for months in the row ...
  10. I don't think so, that's the reason shy you should by a server
  11. ok im slightly confused - i thought RDP and Remote Desktop connection are the same? as i do use Remote desktop connection but thought that was the same as RDP (Remote desktop Protocol) so whats the difference? Where can i get Radmin tool and what other 2 remote access tools would you recommed (any free ones are welcome ) Thanks again <{POST_SNAPBACK}> uh sorry i've completely overlooked that you've mentioned RDP ... I tought of something else., sorry my bad ... as per other 2 would be any remote admin programs i.e. Symantec PcAnywhere ...
  12. use RDC - Remote Desktop Connection to connect to your server ... but what I would do before I take off from my server is install Radmin tool and minimum of 2 other remote access tols
  13. Once you install AD, make sure that your server's primary DNS points to itself with IP address and not loopback address ...
  14. How would I set up a child domain? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> start dcpromo on the server that will be DC for a child domain, and pick option Domain Controller for a new domain, then Child domain in the existing domain tree and then take it from there
  15. search a bit on this forum, there are few posts and link to patched version ...
  16. Well if your clients don't have your AD server DNS address in their TCP/IP properties, how do you expect them to log on onto domain? As far as I understood, your clients receive dynamic IP from the router that acts as DHCP and the DNS server they use is DNS built into your router ... so where your AD server IP comes in here? as per loopback address ... if your server's IP is 192.168.1.2 then in primary DNS of the servers TCP/IP properties put 192.168.1.2 and not 127.0.0.1 or 127.0.0.2 or 127.0.0.3 (these are loopback IP addresses)
  17. so basically your router acts as a DHCP server and assigns dynamic IP addresses to the clients ...
  18. what do you mean by "static IP provided by the router"?
  19. Just to let you know that Microsoft released Microsoft Data Protection Manager (DPM) BETA (before known as Data Protecion Server) as of today ... more info & download [here]
  20. you can try ERD commander 2005 to reset your admin password ...
