  1. Does anyone know of a reg entry that can put the IE icon back on the desktop & quicklaunch. I believe what takes it off is actually the nlite inf. I watched after my guirunonce finished to see what happens after my script is done and amazingly I saw the IE lnk get deleted from the quicklaunch mins after my runonce cmd copies it there and finishes. The show desktop lnk is not affected by this but any lnk for internet explorer is regardless of its name. I looked at the nlite.inf and cant find an entry that looks like its deleting the explorer icons. This has to be a bug and what a weird one. If I name Iexplorer.lnk iexploder.lnk it still gets deleted after i copy it over with my runonce cmd. I hope someone can help this is a very strange problem. Thanks
  2. So no one cares about using smaller cards with readyboost. I'd really like to find out if it can be used with smaller cards like it was in the previous vista versions. Thanks
  3. Is there a reg entry for this.. Anyone????
  4. I've fixed the .lnk files but still cant fix the special icon for IE on the desktop. Is there a reg tweak for this that someone has. I cant seem to find one to check that box under customize desktop. I can do it manually which is no fun but there is no reg entry for that setting that i can find. If you got one post it. Thanks
  5. The good.. There trying to make it look like a mac. Maybe mac fans will get confused and buy a pc.. Who knows.. Seems to really try to protect you with that new UAC. It asks you every 10 secs if you wanted to do something. Nice try but **** thats annoying. Should be able to tell if the command came from an input device rather then an external basterd. also good they did not get ride of two much of the old interface of previous windows. I was thinking id see loads of new menus and junk but luckly i found most of the old ones once I could turn them back on. The bad it is freaking HUGE... With media player and dvd burning windows devender and so much more this thing comes in at a massive 7GB's. Thats like &*%$##@ bigger then my sub 500mb nlited xp boxes. Insane. They need to leave some of this stuff off and if you go into it and want it then it asks for the cd to install. That would cut out 2gb's at least. But after all that there is a lot more of the just pure ms crap that most of us of knocked off with nlite. Drivers for everything know to man and things for blind, def and people that speak a million other languages etc etc.. A lot of junk that could be left untill prompted i think. Also they broke readyboost making it only be usefull with flash drives/cards that are 256mb or more. LAME... It usta work with 64mb & 128mb cards which i personally have a bunch of. If anyone knows a way to trick vista into using smaller cards through a hack i'd like to know about it. Overall its a nice start and i'm talking beta 2... They gotta long way to go the way I see it.
  6. Hiya, This sucks and I wanna make it how it was. Let me explain.. I have not gotten a vista beta in a while. Last one was 52XX something back when readyboost worked with 64mb flash drives. Now it only works with 256mb plus drives. LAME I have 3x 64mb USB 2.0 flash drives and 4x 128mb usb2.0 flash drives that I got for a deal because there small. I have looked through the registry for an entry that limits readyboost use to 256mb flash drives and above but cant seem to find anything. I also looked all over the web for such a thing. Others are p***ed but no fix in sight. Anyone else found a way around this or would like to use there old 64mb and 128mb flash drives with readyboost? I hope we can find an answer. Maybe if there is a tweakui for vista it would have an entry.. Tweakui is prob a year away at this point though.. If you have a comment or can help please post. Thanks
  7. Hmm.. I had to fix the show desktop lnk once before with an old nlite version. So I could do the same with IE explorer. This might seem like a dump question but how do you make one of those run once cmd's add to the registry to run on first boot. Is that what your doing to fix this problem. I use guirunonce before the first logon to do most of my stuff and have never really done a runonce at first logon, no real need to till now. Can you post your runonce code. Once I see it I can figure out how it works. Thanks
  8. WOw.. DUH... lol.. I guess that works. Ryan also came out with a new RV pack 2.07a so maybe this wont happen with the new pack and a new install.. I had 2.07 before.... Ok Sweet. If anyone else has had this problem or knows why it happens let me know. The new pack might fix it I'll post back. Thanks again
  9. Hi, my last build of my lited cd with nlite is missing the icons for internet explorer from the desktop. Is there anything i can do to fix this after its installed. the icon for IE is special and I dont think you can create it. I have attached my last session file if anyone has any ideas why this would occur or if its a bug. Thanks for the help...... Last_Session.ini
  10. If that was the fix great. If not there is something else you can do to fix it for all files and not just divx/xvid files. Its an install that windows runs when media player is installed. Look for unregmp2.exe in a regular install of windows xp and run that. Amazingly on an nlited install it will fix the problem for all files and the preview will work. It fixed it for me .. hope that helps.
  11. Thanks for the final.. I've only noticed one problem compared to RC8 and that is an issue with the internet explorer icons disappearing from the desktop. Both the quicklaunch icon is gone and the special IE icon on the desktop are not created. In RC8 with the same items removed this does not happen. Here is a copy of my preset file for nlite final.. (same as rc8) If anyone has an idea of what could be causing this or if its a bug in the final nlite. Please let me know. 12. mystery solved. The issue was a reg edit that usta work fine untill 2.0.5 update. The reg edit was one pointing my docs, my pics and a few other folders to D:\. Anyway I hate my docs and all those folders so I tell them to all point at one drive and it worked fine untill recently. Anyway I figured it out and in the future does anyone know of an app that can test reg entries for use in windows? I have had this happen 2 other times and its so annoying becuase its a total mystery when it happens. I have like 100's of reg entries I add to my install so finding the bad one can be really be tough. Anyone have an idea on that please post. Thanks for all your help.
  13. The problem is still there the file I found had nothing to do with the install process or running windows it seems. I have completely remade my source files and re-integrated sp2 onto them and its still there. I am at a total loss as to why this is happening it can be only 1 of 2 things. Either the update pack or nlite. However i have had the same settings in nlite since version 1.0 RC1 with minor changes that I already tried switching back. It does work with update pack 2.0.4 and without update pack 2.0.5 If anyone has any ideas I'm still open to suggestions. Thanks again
  14. I believe I discovered the problem with my install. I have found a corrupt xp file in my install. Looking for more but I believe this is the problem. Once I do a full check i think I have fixed this strange issue. Thanks for all your help.
  15. Ryan.. Actually i have tried it everyway now. Nlited then integrated did that tonite. Then I also tried integrate then nlited. Only thing I have not tried is no nlite but thats not gonna work I would not have room to add any of my apps and the install would run all slow like before I discovered msfn & nlite. I have been using the same core/base SP2 XP files for a while. These were integrated way back when service pack 2 came out and done with the manual integration not nlite. I have done countless installs with them and they have been working great so I know the problem is not there. It must be with something after. If I can get a copy of the last version I know I can confirm it is or is not the update. Thanks
  16. Wait wont the update add files back in that perhaps you removed with nlite? I figured that would happen and did it that way. I'll try it the other way and see if that fixes it. In the mean time does anyone have update pack 2.0.4? Thanks for the idea..
  17. Thanks for the ideas. Here is what I have tried and what has not work. This is super strange. Everything has the same result. This has to be something really dumb. Ryan suggested that I add on his pack 2.0.5 with his own update utility. So I did that and then used nlite to cut it back down. What I have been using are the same base slipstreamed sp2 files for a really long time & they have been working fine. The only thing that fits is the update pack and inparticular its 2.0.5. I used straight nlite 1.0 rc7 to add ryans pack orginally this is how i found the problem. I have edited copies of explorer.exe, shell32.dll, and the new hacked sfc_os.dll file. all updated to the newest versions available. These files are added into the install but i even thought that possiblely they could be causing the problem so I took them out and the problem is still there. None of this happened with update pack 2.0.4 of ryans pack which I deleted and cant download again. I would really like to test it with that pack again to see if I could absolutedly confirm its not the updates. Does anyone have that pack? That would solve my problem. However my conclusion right now is that it has to be one of the updates tied to this most recent update ms did. Has anyone had this problem? Can anyone provide update pack 2.04... THANKS
  18. I have a huge mystrey on my hands after my recent nlited xp install was completed. I used the newest ryans update pack (RVMUpdatePack 2.0.5) on it and when i get into my system everything is perfect except when i go to run and hit browse explorer crashes. When i go to save as in most apps explorer crashes causing the app to crash also. The only real change i have made to the install is ryans pack so whats with his recent pack and causing explorer to crash? Has anyone else had this problem? PLEASE HELP
  19. Watch out anyone that uses Zone alarm it can block ports when its closed. LAME.. & once again great list ... THANKS
  20. Thats what i thought. So it cant block apps ok cool... Back to the drawing board. Thanks for the help. :-)
  21. Hiya.. Ok i just started using this and I'm experencing some strange issues with 2 of my favorite programs now. Both Azureus and Trillian pro seem to not work with this blocklist installed. I have no idea what sites these two programs are connecting to and cant understnad why your list would try to block these apps. Is this truely the blocklist causing this or something else completely. I am trying to narrow down what else this could be but in the mean time has anyone else had these problems.
  22. I was trying to build a WinPE disc that would first boot from the cd and then allow you to install windows xp UCD from that.. That would be cool.. So is there a way to have both on one cd? and isnt that the purpose of this guide? Also disk part did not work at all and I'm not sure why. When I run the script on the cd it does nothing. Maybe thats cuz my HD's are way different and you must need to customize that file which i did not do. I did this real fast without customizing any of the files. I still dont know if I followed this thing right or not because of the autorun.cmd and partinf directorie question I had earlyer.
  23. I just built this win pe disc with your instructions and its pretty cool.. But none of my oem stuff shows up when i build the disc.. All the stuff in my oem folder is compressed and i think thats why. The cd ends up being 156megs not to bad.. what do I do with the pe stuff to get it into my unattended. Also i tried with my nlited cd and thats pointless.. Nlite takes out like a billion files this thing needs.. is there a way to get this to dual boot in the first place though? How does your disc work? is it an install and win pe? id like to make this a pe disc with all my apps if thats even possible.. or at least some of the apps i use. Is that possible? I know I have like a million questions but this seems neat so far. Thanks for the guide. also you might wanna edit this.. maybe I did something wrong. why don't u put the autorun.cmd and partinfo into the i386 folder with all the other windows files.. and then use the winpe folder as the custom dir. why create all those extra folders? Also you might wanna tell people to download the bartpe install.. I tried it with the zip and pe builder and figured it out but maybe thats why my oem folder did not work. Ahh well it boots so i did something right.
  24. Thanks ScubaSteve.. That worked really well.. **** fast way to update the shell32.dll.. Ohh ya I hate winzip.. **** thing does not show folders in zip files..I was lost for a min lol.. Winrar forever Thanks for the help again.. My new CD is almost done now.
  25. How... I'm lost!! I have a .rc file and all the old shell32 icons i want for the new 6.0.2900.2781 shell32.dll and I've read the help file and I cant get it to load the .rc file into the new shell32.dll. What the hell is a .res file? Seems to be the whole dll file with a different extention. Can anyone help me.. I have the newest resource hacker and I dont want to replace each file manually. ahhhhhhhh
