  1. Thanks MDGx for the answer. Like I said in my previous post, I have already changed the WMPLOC.DLL for a french one (version 4503) and my WMP is completely french. The problem is that 98MP10.EXE had also changed the GUI of the Windows Explorer (that is when I open any folder, almost all menus & buttons) to english. So I ask from which file could it had came (EXPLORER.EXE is still the same, french version). BTW, 98MP10.EXE is not upgrading %windir%\SYSTEM\WMP.DLL. Is there a problem to do it? (Last version found is from MS09-037: 9.00.00.4507 for WinXP SP3, or 9.0.0.3364 for Win2000 SP4 & WinXP SP2. Both seems to work).
  2. 1- With Process Explorer (or Ctrl + Alt + Del) have a look to what is running, ...and kill what is not suppose to 2- In Start ->Run ->MsConfig (tab 'Startup') untick what is not suppose to be launched 3- With HijackThis (even last version is running with Win98SE: http://go.trendmicro.com/free-tools/hijack...HijackThis.exe) have a deeper insight of the crap of your system, ...and clean it. 4- I'm running also last Spybot S&D: slowly (= 90 mn for a complete scan), ...but it works. Charles.
  3. Thx! Very nice (very simple) For who is concerned, the localized version of WMP9 (= tranlation to any language) is in WMPLOC.DLL. Change from the english version to another one and you get your WMP in your language! Last point: the GUI in the explorer is still in english. Do you know from which file it's coming?
  4. Steven W,I have exactly the same settings ...and no problem to post. You may had added "msfn.org" in a restricted zone involuntarily. Make a search for the string msfn.org in the registry (there is several possible places).
  5. Latest IE6SP1 update for Win 2000 SP4 released and working fine on Win 98 SE! B) Look here: post #26.
  6. Last IE6SP1 update for Win 2000 SP4 released and working fine on Win 98 SE here! 17 "new" files to install, but danim.dll and tdc.ocx don't show any difference. Links: Download details Update for Internet Explorer 6 SP1 (KB978207) Microsoft Security Bulletin MS10-002 - Critical Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer (978207) Enjoy!
  7. Hi, I've installed last version of 98MP10 on my Win98Se (with SP3b4, KernelX & RP9) and everything is smooth. I wanted to get it in french, so I tried to substitute the WMPLAYER.EXE file with the french one, but was not able to find the exact same version. When I try to launch it, it's complaining that my version is 9.00.00.4503, instead of the 9.00.00.4504 that it is waiting for, and doesn't open. Is there a way to change that waited version number (registry?) or a tweak with the exe? (I'd already tried to change the version number in the 2 places it appears in the file with an hexa editor, but it's giving me still the same warning). Thx in advance. Charles.
  8. Hi Philco, have a look here: KernelEx App Compatibility Database at Post #100. I had such a problem when I went from version 10.0.32.18, to 10.0.42.34: 'CPU usage stay close to 100%, making IE to crash.' Everything went back to normal when I'd downgraded.
  9. Here, starts a long-long thread about this : Privacy in the new ZoneAlarm 5.5,explaining that almost all versions of ZoneAlarm are calling home...
  10. Hi glocK_94,FWIW last version of ZA working with Win 98Se is 6.1.744.001 (even without KernelEx). I'm using version 5.5.062.004 (working without and with KernelEx), because I've found it has more features than the above, and because it is a 'non-phoning home' version .
  11. This soft maybe an Adware: Adware.Win32.EMCO Malware Destroyer
  12. Thanks.OK, I will try. BTW, is compatibility preserved also with KernelEx 4.0 Final2 , Tihiy's Revolutions Pack 9, and Maximus-Decim's Big HDD 3.1?
  13. @ RetroOS: I had tried it before posting, and afterwards reboot, but it doesn't help I even had tried several compatibility modes, but same thing . @ Philco: 'without KernelEx', do you mean disabled from Compatibility tab? Before install of KernelEx, I never had any glitch with this program under Win 98SE. BTW, I also use Portable version of FSIV. EDIT : this could help, I have put in attached files a piece of log from Dr Watson and FileMon. BTW, the file 'C:\Program Files\FSViewer\fsplugin02.dll' is actually here. EDIT 2 : The bug appears every time you try to make a lossless conversion for Jpeg format. Third capture with Dr Watson when doing a lossless crop.
  14. I can't be sure that the french installer is guilty.Matze is doing a lot of work on his site. He had translated several version of Win 98SE SP2 & SP3 with no problem. Could it has been something with my PC (or settings)? I had copied the 'win9x' folder from Win Me install CD on my HD (C:\WINDOWS\Desktop) [i think the .pif read everything from it], and the original CD was still in the first optical drive (E:)
  15. Problem with KernelEx 4.0 Final 2 here: it is breaking FastStone Image Viewer. When I open a Jpg picture in it browser or windowed view, I can rotate it from: 'Edit' -> 'Rotate (right or left)', but it is impossible to do it from the arrows in the tools bar! I get a crash with an error message: <UNKNOWN> caused an invalid page fault in module <unknown>. (see attached file). With gif, png or bmp, there is no glitch at all! BTW, the image is not read-only. Last version of FSIV is 4.0, but I get the same thing with the previous one 3.9. Because I use this soft a lot, I reinstall Windows and have checked step-by-step from where come the bug. It appears only after the install of last KernelEx. I never had problem with this program before.
  16. I've tried 98SE2ME today (French install - Déc-12-2007). Option 1 is running but the icons are broken in the systray, and at every reboot the OS is looking for a folder 92SM (don't remenber the exact name) in /Windows/ or /WINDOWS/SYSTEM/ that he does'nt find... Option 3 had crashed everything (error with SHELL32.dll at reboot) and I needed to restore the system with DriveImage.
  17. Hi PierreLeGnome, have a look on Post #100 in KernelEx App Compatibility Database, I'd also problem with release 10.0.42.34 of the Flash Player. Previous one (10.0.32.18) is just fine. You can get it from FileHippo. [EDIT: The link from FileHippo is not the good version. You will find it here: OldApps. ] You don't need to set a special compatibility, default KernelEx is OK. BTW, be sure your reg file is working by checking manually in the registry the key 'HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion'.
  18. New Flash Player ActiveX, version 10.0.42.34, is not running properly here. With the registry key given in KernelEx 4.0 Final 2 post #2, it accepts to install but CPU usage stay close to 100%, making IE to crash. It could be a drop better if I keep this registry key instead of deleting it. I went back to version 10.0.32.18 and I had to restore a previous registry backup to recover the same smooth system.
  19. RegMon and FileMon are broken here. I get an error message: "FILEVXD.VXD is not loaded properly.: The system cannot find the file specified." with Filemon, and "REGVXD.VXD is not loaded properly.: The system cannot find the file specified." with RegMon, when launching them. Same thing with an older version (6.04). Any idea?
  20. Hello, I have never used 98SE2ME. Is it compatible with the Win98SE SP3 beta4? What kind of improvement will I get if I install it in addition? I have read the READ1ST.PHP, but not seems to speak about this particular point.
  21. Interesting. The french KB976325 patch includes definitely 17 files (in 'rtmgdr' folder), but you're right the 'shlwapi.dll' is identical with the previous one from KB974455: same version number '6.00.2800.1990 (xpsp2.090827-1539)', same size (403 456 bytes), same MD5. BTW, I've checked the others: - 'danim.dll' has the same version number 6.03.01.0148, same size 1 056 768 bytes, but different MD5.
  22. New update IE6 SP1 for Win 2000 SP4: KB976325 released ...working fine with Win 98 SE! There are 17 files to change: the usual 16 and 'tdc.ocx'.
  23. With KernelEx 4.0 Final2 installed on Win98SE, last versions are fine: * Autoruns 9.53 * ProcessExplorer 11.33 EDIT after more tests: Well, Autoruns 9.53 is running ...but with errors, like false-'File not found'. Even Autoruns 9.13 is running but not displaying correctly Default Icon's of the entries. So, last fully functional version for me, seems to be 9.12! For Process Explorer same thing, last version doesn't display the process name when cursor is rolling over the CPU history or Commit. Last good version for me is 11.31.
  24. Hello Dave-H,thanks for sharing! Not only that IE6 become more secure, it is also more stable! I had a bug when reading offline videos downloaded from Youtube: they where making VLC to crash. With the new files, everything is smooth!
