i was just wondering Aaron, when you buy a pc from those guys, how do you know the bits inside arent cheap oem versions, as you cant open the case. Also, if you buy the parts online yourself you would pay less than those guys, they may charge £50 but how many of the parts are you buying off of them that can be found much cheaper else where? infact they probably add a bit of markup to cheap products as it is and you are paying MORE than £50 for them to build it... i might not be right, but something to bear in mind...

i dont see the point in firewire if theres usb2....

i have a gigabyte board, no problems with crashing, just the STUPID intel chipset causes me to drop from the network... that is if i leave the default drivers in it does. my boards a GA-6WMM7 gigabyte suck, cant wait to get rid of it.

i dont like the forums, they shoot at you in there... Amil - the guy who owns the site seems a nice enough bloke though. they deliver in 2 days flat too... although most smaller hardware sites seem to do that, i ordered a shim from coolcasemods the other week, it took 4 days, normally they take 2, but they sent it out by next day registered post to make sure it got to me within a week - without charging me extra, they must have run out of envelopes or something lol. the soyo was my original choice for a mobo.. but its got the old chipset, so unfortunately i wont be getting it.. **** fine board though, they should release a kt333 version of it :cry

windows XP [b:33dc860489]is[/b:33dc860489] stable, very stable, it really is almost as stable as linux, but not as stable. i can keep my xp system on for a week easily without rebooting. some people do have problems, usualy in these areas: Roxio vid drivers modems creative labs drivers (new ones on windows update seem ok this time) firewalls if you dont want to do a format, then lets get it sorted! shouldnt be too hard. first thing i have to do when i format is get new vid drivers, and new sound blaster drivers, or my system isnt as stable as it could be, sound troubles and screen lock ups (caused by vid drivers) then i alter the page size, and finally install everything i want on and get the look how i like it. Default drivers are never any good...

at first glance id say firmware, but as your product is still under warranty id make sure you read every TOC with any firmware update you download, as well as your conditions of warranty for the drive. But as it has worked for a month as you say, then suddenly stops working, it suggests a few things to me: one is a very comon win2k / winXP "thing". just to rule itout, have you installed, Nero, adaptec / Roxio Cd burning software or any other CD related software recently (or since u noticed the fault) if its not that, its definatley NOT a dusty lens, dont go using a lens cleaner on a Pc Drive, very stupid idea, leave booger to that. Cd lens cleaners really smash your lens around, in a stereo this isnt much of a problem, they are usualy tougher things and only play music, a Pc drive usualy burns discs, reads DVD, CDrom, CDwr, etc, and usualy using a CD lens cleaner like that invalidates your warranty. (i have had one drive killed because of a know all friend and his Cd lens cleaner, lukily i claimed on my warranty, with 1 week to spare, i got a much beter drive in the end so i was lucky) Lastly if its none of those things it could be that Win2k / XP "quirk" ive noticed, fail to defrag your pc for any length of time, or let the drive get fragged up and your Cd drive stops playing DVD / wont burn good discs / doesent recognise discs / shows discs but when you click explore the disc looks empty.. etc etc etc. Ive had a few people ask me about this or complain about burning crap discs only to find they dont ever defrag thier pc, they maybe got away with it on 98, made the OS run even worse but hey... im not sure if it applies to NTFS or if its OS based, but thats the quirk ive noticed anyhow.

rick, sorry it WAS a chickens brain, a liver isnt generally symetrical, nor does it have a smooth under side along a ridge on the bottom. it was a brain im telling you. KFC told me "but we dont get any heads with it, and it all comes ready prepared" now they do get heads sometimes, people have sued em for it. and have you ever worked in a chicken slaughter house? trust me, its very possible a brain got in with the meat, and when they kill them they dont cut thier heads off - thats when they are dead. the chickens are hung by their feet from a moving conveyor, then it moves them along the line to a water vat full of water and about 500v its supposed to kill them, it rarely does. and the guys who work in thoses places like to pull sick stunts, chickens heads in your pockets and stuff.

the other week, me and my girl where in town and we decided to go to KFC for an eat in. i got 3 pieces of chicken some fries and my coke and went and sat down. on my last bit of chicken i noticed something funny looking on one side, wedged in between the bone and meat, so i knocked it out with my finger. looking at it it closer it was obvious it was a WHOLE chickens [b:adb2a92555]brain[/b:adb2a92555]. it had your usual marking a brain has, was very soft and the right shape (i remember chicken brains from biology) the front lobe had come off and was still stuck to the bone. when i went to complain the guy at the counter started proding and actually tried to squash it, i had to grab his wrist to stop him destroying the evidence. just my luk the area manager was upstairs, so i stopped listening to the crap they where trying to tell me at the counter and took it to him, he said "i dont know what a chickens brain looks like, and i cant say that is one" so i said "ok, but you know what a brain looks like, tell me thats not a brain." he couldnt, and he was pretty repulsed by it, so i know he knew what it was. they tried to fob me off with a free meal!! but obviously i wasnt in the mood then for any coated chiken delights. The guy said they would send it off to be checked and that i would be sent something as recompense, a cheque or vouchers or something. w*****s, havent even done that. moral of the story is, if you EVER find a mouse in your food or anything like that (im not the first person this has heppened to, people have found chicken heads and mice before) [b:adb2a92555]DONT give it to staff, or let them hande it, complain, take it home, take pictures of it and send it someplace for testing yourself, like your local food saftey dep.[/b:adb2a92555] had to get that off my chest, KFC are dirty bastards

Motherboard and Processor reccomendation anyone?
FthrJACK replied to buck614's topic in Hardware Hangout
my fave: http://www.tomshardware.com/ also DDR (double data rate) for AMD chips. intel own RDR type ram, dont expect to see it on amd boards lol. you can however get some boards that take an intel chip, and DDR ram though, but intel are suing the manufacturers of some of these boards. it gets more complicated doesent it, you wont be asking again then.. serves you right! hope we have helped u decide buck, one of the fun bits of building a new system is the planning and waiting for it all to arrive, bit like xmas but without the inlaws -
the DA-01BD is around £75 at most sites, if you find anywhere selling the new TA-10BD give me a shout!!! i waaaaaaaaaaaaaaant it (mostly to annoy elite.. he just bought the DA-01BD model before new ones came out lol)
