if its an internal scsi drive and its not running well under XP but it does under win2k theres one reason really why that would be flash... ASPI windows xp comes with crap ASPI layers, if i format, when i try burn anything with most burners i get coasters and some burners, eg fireburner, wont even work. that is, until ASPI is updated. it might not be that but its my best guess from what zipp posted

just a thought before you go splashing out money on a new drive, have you updated your ASPI layers? and if so did you install the X86 ones also? (the win2k ones, some burner software wont run unless it finds the win2k versions) download ASPI from adaptec and install both X86 and XP32 sets if you havent -> ASPI 4.71 first you run the exe which unpacks it all to drive C:\ then go to start > run and click browse Browse you way to the folder on drve C made by the unpacker, C:\adaptec\aspi select the file instal.bat and click open. you should now have the run box with the path to your instal.bat file in it, on the end add X86 and click OK. now do the same again but add XP32 to the end and click OK, eg: C:\adaptec\aspi\instal.bat XP32 reboot and then run ASPICHK found in the adaptec\aspi folder, it should show your drivers to be upto date (check install dates) hope that helps if that was the cause

you can do a VPN with just XP, ive done it, it was painfully slow though, even with 512k line i had at the time, i also wanted to try the games idea out you have had lou! but, it would only allow one user at a time for some reason, i didnt try do much with it so that might be changeable, once i found how slow it was i gave up. please post the error you got, i got a lot of errors and headache doing this, then deleted the connection, set it up again from fresh and it worked. we need the specific error number, and if you can any message that goes with it.

nice! pity i dont have anywhere near the bux for that! and if i did id spend it on flying lessons anyhow hehe i wonder how many people buy one of the developer packages and then decide they hate programming ?! it is mainly a business tool tho, as the price reflects. id try ebay though like aaron suggested, someone will bite your arm off for a brand new unopened box at discounted price! thnx for posting too, might be usefull to someone here

well like i say.. my cpu is an athlon 2100+ at 43'C using a zalman, so its faster AND cooler than your cpu! it may in part be to the new organic substrate and thinner cpu design, as well as other design changes that allow it to run cooler

you will lose everything on your machine if you format if you run repair it may be a precaustion to back anything that is absolutley vital up onto CD before attempting to format, but doing so make note that you might actually burn an infected file to disc and then reinfect yourself! so check anything before you burn it, and check your discs too.

one of my case fans was slowing down like that, it made a hell of a lot of noise when it did it, sounded like a small engine! it was a UV painted one too, i bought it pre painted. i pulled the oil sticker off the back and took the C clip off, and the rubber O ring and took the fan to bits, turned out it was just assembled wrong, so that the fan and its spindle could slide in and out of the bush bearing, meaning the magnet in the fans center was catching on the motor brushes, easy fix. my fan was brand new tho. clean your fan and heatsink out, a clean 2" paint brush is perfect for this job, i have one under my case for dusting around, dead usefull. if your fan has a sticker on the center peal it back, many have a small disc of plastic under them, covering a small oil cup, put a drop of general purpose oil in there and see if that makes it quieter and your temps beter. its probably just clogged up with dust and gunk.. amazing how much they attract, if you have exaust fans the cpu fan seems to get clotted up a lot less ive noticed, as any dust going in gets shoved right back out the back of your tower.

according to http://ee.heavengames.com/ in an interview with the Empire earth teams PR guy, Adam. the new add on has some very nice sounding features, such as amphibious SAS demolitions expert units, they especially sound a lot of fun also mentioned are infantry units (although i thought they existed already...) and Flame thrower units (those already exist!) i expect both infantry and flame units have been re designed a lot. and the whole new "SPACE" epoch sounds awesome! check out the movies on gamespot. sounds great and i cant wait for this to be out, lots of fun nuking buddies online

if you have the option of doing a redirect with a php page its very much faster, we had one on msfn after the first host failed because of the traffic at the time. it was so quick you couldnt tell! i dont have the code any more though which is a shame this isnt something chris could use, but if anyone finds the code for this it would be usefull for a few people i guess
