  1. networks set to private? if so, check firewall settings
  2. Try it on another machine, using the vanilla un-tampered with iso. And its not exactly a shock it having some bugs now is it!!!
  3. If they are having technical difficulties, then give them a little while and they should fix it, as im sure they are well aware of something as major as that Also, dont forget - you get what you pay for!
  4. its not a very big image, and yes a lot of its down to compression - so my thought is that its not really worth the effort, because it will never look right. Unless that is, you use it on a small screen - like with a Web book for example?
  5. Bit hard to help when your question is so vague jb... what website and what files?
  6. yea its not an issue on the PS3. But on the PC its lacking a bit is the software, still it can be done! Could do it as a PS3 team though anyway, since the PS3 churns out far much more data than the pc will.
  7. cant have searched much really... task scheduler and a batch script would also do the job
  8. A man asked a waiter to take a bottle of Merlot to an unusually attractive woman sitting alone at a table in a cozy little restaurant. So the waiter took the Merlot to the woman and said, 'This is from the gentleman who is seated over there.' and indicated the sender with a nod of his head. She stared at the wine coolly for a few seconds, not looking at the man, then decided to send a reply to him by a note. The waiter, who was lingering nearby for a response, took the note from her and conveyed it to the gentleman. The note read: 'For me to accept this bottle, you need to have a Mercedes in your garage, a million dollars in the bank and 7 inches in your pants'. After reading the note, the man decided to compose one of his own in return. He folded the note, handed it to the waiter and instructed him to deliver it to the lady. It read: 'Just to let you know things aren't always what they appear to be, I have a Ferrari Maranello, BMW Z8, Mercedes CL600, and a Porsche Turbo in my several garages; I have beautiful homes in Aspen , Miami , and a 10,000 acre ranch in Louisiana . There is over twenty million dollars in my bank account and portfolio. But, not even for a woman as beautiful as you are, would I cut off three inches. Just send the bottle back.'
  9. known, and annoying Vista bug. Infact its the only real bug in vista i have been hit with. My laptop would say "identifying" in network centre, yet my internet would work, network access wouldnt, i couldnt stream media either since i wasnt "on" the network. every so often it would actually identify the network for about 2 seconds, before tripping back out again. MS changed the way DHCP requests are made in Vista, your options arent great either. i have mine working ok now, but it has been a pest for the past few weeks, i got a new router and the problems started. Vista doesent like getting addresses from some non MS DHCP servers - so thats option one, run a proper server. Option 2 is to get rid of SP1. Option 3 is to use a fixed IP address. i went for option 4, reg hack. However there are varying results here, works for some people and not others. Microsofts guide on fixing it didnt work, but did help somewhat. Before doing this you will need to find outy the GUID of your network adapter that you want to fix, the GUID represents the GUID of the network interface card in your computer. To find the GUID for the interface you are using, run a command prompt as Administrator, and type: net config rdr and then hit enter. WARNING: Only apply this patch if you are having problems and dont apply it to all your NICs HKLM\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\SERVICES\TCPIP\PARAMETERS\INTERFACES\{GUID} Change DhcpConnForceBroadcastFlag = 0 ADD DWORD DhcpConnDisableBcastFlagToggle = 1 HKLM\SYSTEM\CURRENTCONTROLSET\SERVICES\TCPIP6\PARAMETERS\ ADD DWORD DisabledComponents = FF (hex) Hope this helps
  10. a lot of newer deisel engines can run on modified cooking oil with little or no modification, some just need an in line fuel filter. some of the really new cars dont even need modified oil, you can litterally go to the store, buy some rapeseed oil and put it in your tank! -- obviously it goes without saying to check if your car is capable, if you break it its not my fault
  11. heh, i used to have a machine head avatar myself
  12. delete it where you moved it to. then re-enable it as a desktop icon.
  13. im fairly sure they actually stop it, then start it again -- rebooting it! but only if drugs dont work. glad to hear he is ok nerwin, i like the MH avatar by the way
  14. what about folding at home? specially if you get people using it on their ps3's (as i do, and a lot of ps3 owners already do) -- cause the ps3 crunches that data up like nobodys business.

    Windows 7

...riiiight, thats why they make it sooooo hard to report things, and why they have large dedicated teams just for specific bug types and OS areas etc, and umm.. cause the dev team for windows 7 are the same people who read your bug reports. . .
  16. id buy a second server (or two), something like a HP DL 180, slap some fat drives in it and use it for storage/backup. are you putting the 12TB in your DESKTOP machine? hope you sit a few rooms away from it if so then lol
  17. holy hell.... Did you find some ancient roman artifacts burried down there with this thread as well Level?
  18. I didnt mean you pbj! i posted in response to GroftLuigi's post, bottom of page 2.
  19. Yes you forget, its those rose tinted glasses you see! if you wanted to go back to 95 just for performance reasons, then use Solaris, or a light weight Linux distro - way more functional than 95, and get all the open source free apps you want
  20. No... renaming $OEM$ will just break it, and it wont get copied to the hard disk. You would need a folder structure something like: $OEM$\$1\Users\Default\AppData\Local\Temp Now that will make the files available to all users (albeit in their temp dir) If you want the files to only go to a SPECIFIC user, then the users account will have to exist at the point the files are copied over. To copy the files to a specific users folder, then you will need to do a bit of scripting, but nothing major, for example: you could do something like an auto logon via the registry, then at the user logon have a batch script to copy the files to C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Local\Temp Then have your batch remove the auto logon from the registry, and log the user out. You could use the path above for each user acc you want the files copied to. The %USERNAME% system variable translates to the currently logged on users name. Hope this helps
  21. Also take into account that vista wasnt just made to run on todays hardware, but to run for several years, even long after windows 7 comes out. It has to have a lifespan, and the same with any OS that MS (or other companies) have brought out. It was exactly the same with XP, but those people shouting about how wickedly fast it is right now, mostly arent running it on hardware they where when XP first came out XP has also been service packed and hotfixed extensivley. I remember when we first opened msfn, and most of the posts where about "how bug ridden, slow and useless xp is rant rant rant, why wont half my programs work!!!!! i installed a CD burner and now my PC keeps rebooting, wahh some prat is using RPC broadcasts to reboot my pc!" etc etc. I must get a pair of those rose tinted, forget the bad stuff, glasses myself.... My own personal experience is that vista has been the smoothest, most enjoyable, welcome, and much needed improvement in an OS i have so far had from MS... i have been using windows since 95 first came out. Why does nobody ever come online going on about how they refuse to ever stop using Windows ME i wonder?? hmm...
  22. Further to the point, why are you using a DVD when you are on a domain, why not use RIS, WDS or ALTIRIS even? Just curious...
  23. ive had no internet for over a year!!! had it for a short time when i moved house, like 2 months, but it was only temp before moving again. So actually... longer than a year.
  24. DOS. fast boot time, low resource use, and it should run brilliantly on your machine spec! well... you did ask.
  25. Id just enable Hyper V.... and use XP as a guest, saves rebooting then when you want to switch between OS's. Plus you can run both at the same time... With virtualisation, i dont see the point in dual booting really.
