  1. Here's a load of answers. I'm not running 98se anymore (I'm not up to running this mobo on 98) but it remains my favourite OS http://www.msfn.org/board/topic/162657-why-use-win-9x-on-new-pcs-in-2013/
  2. --JorgeA Looks like he's found some meds that work!
  3. One of the early singles featuring Jeff Beck on guitar (1965). One of the finest British bands of the 60's
  4. JorgeA. My Amstrad PC1512 came with floppys for MSDOS 3.2 and DOS Plus . Unless DS-DOS Plus was a special version, DOS Plus was made by Digital Research as a sort of CPM 86 Which was probably Digital Research was approached by IBM first (which they flunked) before Microsoft (The rest, as they say, is history) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DOS_Plus Regards Tony
  5. I used to run Win98SE and found it very stable. What I found was get the DOS right underneath and it worked a treat together with MDGX's SE2ME patch. Unfortunately I had to change the mobo so 98 got left behind. As far as "support" goes, doesn't bother me. Just out of interest, why would "support" be an issue? Browsers, only Microsoft has left XP behind, I have been using Firefox since (almost) it came out although I recently changed to Pale Moon. They fully support XP Email, Thunderbird. Office suites, one or two free suites out there (eg Open Office). I think I will only leave XP behind when I cannot get hardware that can use it (I suppose I will have to walk like a penguin when that happens)
  6. Like it!! About the only way to tell is the temperature
  7. Yes it does. P.M. is what I'm using now on XP pro sp3. Updated this morning 1145 GMT to 24.3.1
  8. Keep safe Charlotte (and anyone else facing similar)
  9. If you have done this already, my apologies. Dump the cache and cookies, often the error is carried on in there. Malwarebytes "Antimalware" is a useful tool. scan now and again. I also use "Spybot Search and Destroy"
  10. The Insurance company Aviva Insurance Company (Formally Norwich Union) have been promoting a mobile phone app that monitors your driving style and then if you are "steady enough" you get a discount on your premium. I imagine it uses the accelorometer (sp) in the phone then sends the data to Aviva http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ctkQRt2HzIE
  11. Or IE8 is the highest version that supports XP
  12. I dont use location services, socks the battery too hard and I cannot get on with Sat-Nav
  13. Monopoly abuse again? Agreed YT has changed for the worse. I want to comment on some clips but also I DO NOT want Google+. I had something I couldnt comment on a couple of nights ago. Tried on something else, it worked. The "Recommended for you" has narrowed its scope, it used to give 5 options for each topic which with 1 click will give you more options for that topic. Now there is a maximum of 24 for all topics combined
  14. Seen in the article Skype, WinPhone and Xbox are they loss leaders? Just think of the profits if Xbox was dumped!
  15. Just been there. Not found Just had a root about to "Forums", "Coffeehouse" Found it
  16. Makes you ask "Why is so much effort being put in to turn a desktop into a console emulator?"
  17. Just for you Charlotte. The Win8 fans are protesting
  18. Why am I not surprised? It still looks cheap and plastiky. To quote "The Firm" (Leonard McCoy's bit) "It's worse than that, it's dead Jim"
  19. On the news tonight. The NSA has been wigging in on Angela Merkel's (Hope I've spelt it right. The German Chancellor) mobile phone calls. One irony is that she came from the former East Germany with its own "agency", the Stasi!!
  20. Back in 1996, I and my workmates had just been told our chemical plant is shutting down and most of us will be redundant. I then put the radio on and this came on.
  21. That is not a problem. I think Jaclaz was looking for "I've sorted the problem, it was ***** Thanks lads" BTW was it FDISK?
  22. Vinifera Dont sit on the fence, say what you really mean
  23. In my opinion, Win8 is more secure because of its low usage. If it was a popular OS, I bet the hackers and malware writers would be going after it but being as it is not, the malware writers will be saying "Whats the point?" Face it XP has around 37% Yum,Yum Win7 (I could look it up) around 50% Vista 5% If I'm going after 7, take Vista with it Win8 5.5% Not worth it
  24. Charlotte's view is "Why let the problems get that far?" I look at it like this. Football (Soccer) match. Who would field a team comprising of only the goalkeeper? 8 might be more secure than XP but XP is tried, tested and above all understood. I have XP, 7 and 98SE on this machine, I would be still using 98 if my motherboard hadn't gone down about 3 years ago. BTW I have no intention of putting Win8 on this machine. I just dont like the look of it
