  1. Sparkles said As an involuntarily-retired graphic designer (after two years w/o a job and only 2 interviews, I've given up and am now applying for clerk typist jobs), it makes me very sad. That second interview in fact was just last week. The woman clearly didn't like me, and as she perused my printed portfolio she stopped at a website design from my previous job and said "was that done some time ago? Because it looks old." By "old" I guess she meant lacking in the flat Playskool look prevalent today...I just wanted to walk out and drive my car off the nearest highway ramp...:-( I had something similar (Not computing) happen to me. I wonder if she had already got her candidate and was using that as an excuse? What happened to me was, I went for an interview for a junior management job at a firm I was working for on agency. The man said "You are 47" I said "Yes" It knocked me back as the message I got was that I was "Over the hill " and fit for nothing. They gave the job to someone else who had not been there very long at all. I got laid off and about 2 weeks later he never turned up again. Good luck for the future mate
  2. Charlotte, I dont think I'll be buying one of those watches any day soon. What with having to put my glasses on to do ANYTHING on that. I've visions of having to get past Angry Birds to get the time
  3. I see 34 pages from "Deeper Impressions" have gone walkabout??
  4. I see 34 pages of this thread have gone walkabout!
  5. You haven't latched onto the Metrotard Taliban Branch? He just will not listen
  6. Can you show your config.SYS and auto exec.bat files? I'm wondering if your computer is complaining about conventional memory? (That below 640k) Send us the results of mem/c/p Regards Tony
  7. I bet you have Charlotte. lol I'm thinking about the "Harrow and Wealdstone" crash in 1952. 3 locos smashed in fog. Can't help thinking Microsoft couldn't see the signals for the Metro Fog
  8. http://tech.uk.msn.com/trending-blog/microsoft-to-make-key-changes-to-windows-8-1 http://tech.uk.msn.com/microsoft/microsoft-confirms-rumours-that-it-will-update-windows-8-1 Windows 8 has been on sale for six months and has so far sold 100 million licences - some commentators are noting that this number isn't strictly indicative of sales but Microsoft should take solace in the fact that licenses represent the uptake in business users installing the new operating system. I suppose I could take this as it is MSNuk I couldn't let this pass This was my reply No it does not. How many of these licenses are still sat in a warehouse? Also Windows 7 kicked up AFTER Win8 was released. People dumping Win8 for Win7. What does Win8 offer to businesses that will make them WANT to go for Win8?
  9. Are those MicroSofties cheering because some one actually BOUGHT a Surface???
  10. They would surely NEVER put a Win Phone billboard at a scrap yard??? heeheehee Like it Charlotte
  11. Yes JorgeA, it looks like some farmer (me?). has emptied his muck spreader on the screen, good job it doesn't have smell-o-vision lol. Of course Microsoft's biggest problem is they're trying to break into a near saturated market about five years too late
  12. Sparkles Like the link to the North Korean missile test. If they are using Win8 then if the test goes wrong, then I can see problems disabling "Angry Birds" to get at the self destruct
  13. I could say "Why use Win8 on a new computer?" One reason could be that you have in effect, two operating systems in one. So if Windows falls over, you can revert to dos and sort things out. Some like making a new machine bend to their will. Then there is "Why not, after all its only a hobby?" Then I could (seriously) say "Why bother with a thatched roof on your house when tiles are better?"
  14. CharlotteTH Education budgets in the UK is the same as over there, just like anything the Government handles is a Supermassive Black Hole. At least there is hope, for 25 Pounds Sterling. Intended to get people programming and experimenting with computers. The Raspberry PI Code blue in hospitals, does this mean computing is in cardiac arrest? (well in Redmond at least?)
  15. I see on the "4 months in, Windows8 needs help" thread, I see there is talk of Microsoft dropping prices of Win8 to help PC sales. I think a lemon tastes bitter no matter what the price. Or should I say the damage has already been done?
  16. Over here in Blighty, there is a weekly computer mag (Micro Mart) . This week's edition has an article about failed hardware,. Guess what is the final "entity" ? Microsoft Surface!! OK they say it may be premature but the way Microsoft are not exactly shouting from the rafters speaks volumes
  17. I was thinking. Microsoft had themes for various versions of its OS Win98 (I think) "Start me up" by The Rolling Stones WinXP "Ray of Light" by Madonna May I suggest for Win8?
