  1. ??? you can make an unattended script while autobooting the CD, I don't see any manual tasks (forget the bootmenu option, I did just mention that so you can choose wheter you would want a backup etc., you don't need that) gr /\/\o\/\/
  2. @tribble, I think it IS the point, if you boot DOS before starting the install, you can copy the files before the install, only problem left is that you can't read NTFS that is where NTFS for DOS comes in. so when you start the install-CD it looks like this - boot to DOS - backup files (batchfile) - format disk - start install - restore files gr /\/\o\/\/
  3. /\/\o\/\/

    startoc.inf

Looks like it ;-)see quote I have found on an latin-am M$-site (bablefish translation) look at the last line so ... SSSSTTTTT gr /\/\o\/\/
  4. can't you make a bootable-CD with a boot menu, then you can use the NTFSdos driver (readonly free - read/write buy) from sysinternals (www.sysinternals.com) to copy the files gr /\/\o\/\/
  5. mike, what is the error message you get (and when) ? what SDK did you use (1.1 ?) gr /\/\o\/\/
  6. you can do it yourself by making a CD-rom boot disk with menu, you should be able to find some guides to that on this forum. so you can boot a virtual floppy to do the prep, and start the install. the rest is just you creativity gr /\/\o\/\/
  7. same goes for slipstreaming it into Office grrr /\/\o\/\/
  8. can't do see quote I found from a M$-emp. gr /\/\o\/\/
  9. Q811632: Critical Update (Windows XP Media Center Edition Product Activation Hotfix). are you using Media center ? if No leave out the patch gr /\/\o\/\/
  10. you should use DHCP op the W2k machine (workgroup names should be the same) gr /\/\o\/\/
  11. /\/\o\/\/

    NTBackup

And you are trying to restore on ............ XP home also ? gr /\/\o\/\/
  12. @my2001, You need to save those settings to the default user, so every NEW profile will get these settings. the "default user" profile gets only "merged" the first time a user logs on. the Users-key just keeps the hives for all users that did logon already (and the Default user) hence isn't usable for "All users Profile"-settings gr /\/\o\/\/
  13. you don't get messages at start-up (service not started see eventlog) ? could be related to ICF (standard on) you need to open port 445 to view the eventlog remotely (but this should not prevent the service starting. gr /\/\o\/\/
  14. Isn't this a policy problem ? that you don't save changes to the desktop or a loginscript that does something with printers ?. setting another default printer should work gr /\/\o\/\/
  15. WMI will get his info from the WMI(CIM)-repository, (most properties will be only collected when you query them, the providers will collect the information when needed.) you can add your own classes and instances to WMI (e.g. with CIM-studio in the WMITools download ) so you can query them. you can also add your ID-number to the registry(without good WMI knowledge more easy than makeing your own WMI class), and use the WMI (or WSHELL) registry provider to get them (you must be able to find a script for that in the M$ scripting center) gr /\/\o\/\/
  16. recoveryconsole -> fixBoot -> fixMbr will sometimes work gr /\/\o\/\/
  17. @proneax the driveletter problem is only while installing, after the OS is set-up, you can change the driveletters with windisk (disk management) (do this before you do/install anything else) you can fist set the CD to Z: then D: is free again and you can use that for the second disk gr /\/\o\/\/ gr /\/\o\/\/
  18. the Group ?, that should only be when using the "member of"-TAB maybe you can check if all default groups are there (administrators/users etc.) or maybe they are in english in script / french in OS ?) gr /\/\o\/\/
  19. what kind-of-error ? did you adminlogon ? gr /\/\o\/\/
  20. i'v seen (and had myself) allot of this kind a problems with XP, and network access, most seems to be related to al kinds of new pre-fetching / locking sh#t M$ has build in explorer some problems are : - zip-folders (explorer pre-reads the contents (popupbaloon) <- regfix available) - Mediafiles (reading properties) - Office files opening verry slow (esp. Excel) (lock problem mentioned by neosapience) maybe XP is also doing such things while you copy the file must you can tune a bit in the Registry but for all mentioned problems only the ZIP/MediaFile problems, are really solved here main line is that the explorer is exploring to much on his own good luck gr /\/\o\/\/
  21. @Mviking check your DNS configuration (configure DFS to use fully qualified domain names in referrals) see quote below (if your not use Win9x as client) this mostly seems the problem gr /\/\o\/\/
  22. Bangers, there are no great diffs, only mostly you need to do a bit more work on a server because of the more advanced hardware (think about RAID / teaming networkcards etc.) gr /\/\o\/\/
  23. the AD-user also has a LastLogonTime property, but be aware that this is recorded seperate at each DC hence you have to check all domaincontrollers to get the last logontime. gr /\/\o\/\/
  24. Just use a ADSI connection to the server itself (SAM) or AD, and use the changePassword function. Set oUser = GetObject("WinNT://" & sDomain & "/" & sUserName & _ ",user") oUser.ChangePassword sPword1, sPword2 (if you want to use AD use a LDAP path ("LDAP://CN=YourUserName UO=YourUserOU, dc=Dom, DC=COM") gr /\/\o\/\/
  25. also a link with lots of spoolsv errors and info : http://memmax.com/content/14/spoolsv-error.php do you have "strange" printerdrivers ? (I had a problem once with the SameTime-printCapture function), or think about acrobat (distiller) can't find anything SP4 related (not saying this is not the problem) good luck, /\/\o\/\/
