  1. valentas, welcome. There are a number of ways to include applications. Please see the sub-forum above concerning AddOns. Many are available. You can also run installers out of the RunOnce exit in the Unattended Task. There is also another program called Windows Post Install for this purpose - please see the forum below. Sorry do not know. Sorry, don't know what you mean by unattend.txt Enjoy, John.
  2. mars83, welcome, here is a good place to start. I would also suggest you DL the latest copy of WAIK from MS DL Center and spend some time looking at unattend.chm. I suspect that most of the things you would like to do have been done before and discussed here. Please do some searching on specific questions and then ask in a thread when you are not successful. A virtual system is a great learning and test tool. VMware Player, VirtualPC and VirtualBox are all free. I use VMware Player and know it supports W7 but am not familiar with the others. Enjoy, John.
  3. jperry, welcome, actually I think DISM is fairly easy to use. Here is a good place to start. You need to include all the files/folders that come with the driver. These usually include .inf, .sys, .cat and maybe .dll, .cab and folder(s). Did DISM tell you what file(s) were missing? If it did not in the command prompt output, then look in the DISM log file. The link is usually provided in the command prompt output - if not search for dism.log (my last one was in C:\WINDOWS\Logs\DISM\dism.log. Enjoy, John.
  4. Earthworm, please read the nLite licese agreement. It permits ONLY personal use and no other. Enjoy, John.
  5. sreilly, I found this searching MS. There is no answer, but I suggest you consider doing some testing under a virtual system. VMware Player, VirtualPC and VirtualBox are all free. I use VMware Player, so know it supports W7 - don't know about the others. Enjoy, John. EDIT: From my EULA (W7 Ultimate):
  6. wangie444, welcome. I suspect you will need to reinstall. Without your Last Session.ini, we can only guess. Please attach it as requested in LARGE BOLD RED LETTERS above. Enjoy, John.
  7. Viper071, I would say you have a real problem. Have you run nLite more than once against the same source? Did you add SP3? Running nLite under W7 to create an ISO for XP is known to be problematical, especially if you add a Service Pack. Please look in your System Event Log around the time you copied your CD and see if there are any CDPROM errors. I suggest you start fresh removing nothing and install on a virtual system (VMware Player, VirtualPC and VirtualBox are all free.) If you get the errors then your source is suspect. Where did you get your source - hope it is not a torrent download? Do you have a valid key? Enjoy, John.
  8. sreilly, I don't think you will be able to activate both systems. Any comments? Enjoy, John.
  9. RadioActiveLamb, sorry you missed it. I should point out that nuhi (nLite author/owner) has not been seen here in over a year and it appears that development of nLite is halted. There are unattended forums above for your OS and with a little work, you can get very successful results. It is what I use for W7 instead of any of the automated programs available. Many posters will be glad to help. You can start by posting your error. If you will look at the Device Manager for yellow bangs, you may be able to identify the missing driver. Enjoy, John.
  10. RadioActiveLamb, I hope you have read the nLite license. It permits only personal use and does not permit any business or other non-personal application. It sounds like you are in a business environment, but, if not, please attach your Last Session.ini, as requested in LARGE BOLD RED LETTERS above. Enjoy, John.
  11. ggarman, I am no expert here but I use xml to create partitions and install W7 on VM for testing. I did not see any modify commands (<ModifyPartitions> and <ModifyPartition>) to format, define file systems and assign drive letters and labels. I do all of these and it works fine. Also, I suggest you run Windows System Image Manager (WSIM) against your xml if you have not done so. Enjoy, John.
  12. pizdulica, please open a thread in the nLite forum, attach your Last Session.ini and spell out your two problems. Enjoy, John.
  13. pizdulica, you might consider nLite. Please see the forum below. It will automatically do many things for an unattended installation. For your modified boot screen, you will need to disable SFC (System File Checker) and nLite has an option for that - also search for boot screen changes - posted before. Enjoy, John.
  14. vinifera, I think the answer is yes, but you need to discover the silent switches. DL the installers for the ones you want and run them in a command prompt with a /? switch. They should list the available switches. If the installer is a .msi file, then open a command prompt and enter msiexec.exe, a window will open with all the available switches. Enjoy, John.
  15. MagicAndre1981, thanks, I need to do some thinking on the ramifications of Windows's declaring my HDD not needing optimization. Since it is a RAID of HDDs (mechanical) I think it should be optimized to gain better performance. BTW, since I restarted Superfetch service, it has not again been turned off. The WEI remains at 6.6 for the HDD. I am keeping an eye to see if the service will again be turned off. I will also spend more time looking at the references above. Enjoy, John.
  16. pizdulica, if you will open Help and Support (Start menu) and look at the makecab command, you will see that the output is placed into the directory that the makecab command is currently running. Look in your C:\Documents and Settings\crystal directory and you will find the file. The makecab command output is normal. Enjoy, John.
  17. MagicAndre1981, thanks. I am curious how you got the xml formated. When I Edit it or open it in IE9, the text is strewn out across the screen. I did some searching on the MyDefrag forum and found this tutorial and am curious to know your opinion. Thanks, John.
  18. MagicAndre1981, attached. Thanks, John.
  19. MagicAndre1981, thanks. I have read your guide, referenced it in my first reply today, and will consider it. I am also thinking of posting on the MyDefrag forum and see what they say. I have used it for a while on XP x64 and have been very happy with it. I attach a screen shot of the WinSAT folder and will attach your requested file if you will point out which it is, or where it is if not here. Thanks, John.
  20. MagicAndre1981, it is hard to tell. I have run no comparisons. I use MyDefrag and it uses layout.ini to optimize the disk layout. I started this quest when I saw that I did not have one. With a little Google, I found the xml files with the WEI scores in "F:\Windows\Performance\WinSAT\DataStore" but cannot find any limit. Thanks, John.
  21. MagicAndre1981, thanks again. I do not have an SDD but I do have a 4x VelociRaptor RAID5 and my HDD score is 6.6. Perhaps this is my problem. Is there a way to defeat the turning off of SuperFetch or is it even necessary? Thanks, John.
  22. OK, I have chased down the problem with Prefetch. The SuperFetch (Sysmain) service was set to Manual and Stopped. I set it to Automatic and started it and Prefetch is working. I used the command Rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks to create a layout.ini file and to update it. I do not know what stopped SuperFetch but it is not I. In fact, prefetch is working when I first install my system (on VM or HW) then stops working. Here is a good MSFN thread on this subject and the root of my discovery - thanks much to MagicAndre1981. If anyone has an idea on why SuperFetch service is stopped, please let me know. Enjoy, John.
  23. mraeryceos, the Service Pack Task is for a Windows Service Pack and it is slipped using the /integrate switch. Hot fixes are mainly integrated by nLite but some cannot be, so they are run via svcpack. If you have any further comments/questions, please attach you Last Session.ini as requested in BIG BOLD RED LETTERS above. Enjoy, John.
  24. Thanks, mritter, but your link takes me to DNS Made Easy with a domain configuration error message. Enjoy, John. EDIT: Works now and I got the api.js file. I will try it tomorrow. Thanks, John. EDIT: I opened WPI on my host and got the attached error. Only had a light blue screen and the configuration pull down. Answering yes or no caused the message to go away but nothing else.
  25. myselfidem, I was not watching this time (on HW), but on VM, it starts soon after Setup does its thing with the little initialization dialogs in the upper corner of the Desk Top. I use AutoUnattend.xml First Logon to run a command file that installs a bunch of stuff. Setupcomplete.cmd then copies a little .cmd file to the Startup folder which then executes (and deletes itself). The funny thing is that my smaller install on VM works just fine. I will try a longer timer on VM. Thanks, John. EDIT: Very interesting result. On my host, I set the timer to 130 seconds and set the tick to 128 seconds. The tick did not start below 128 (did not wait long) , so I did some playing. I set both to 100 seconds. The timer started running at 1 minute and 40 seconds but the tick did not start till 1 minute and 0 seconds (1:00). May well be a bug. Now to the install on VM. I left the timer set to 100. WPI started with the timer running. In just a few seconds, it stopped. I opened Options and exited and the timer again started and ran to completion. I suspect some other process is still running and WPI thinks it is getting a click. Don't know what to do about this. I hope mritter will take a look.
