    hotfix question

cadogan30, here is a good tutorial. Also see the AddOn sub forum above. Enjoy, John.

    hotfix question

cadogan30, most of the hot fixes are integrated into the source, replacing the original files as Sp0iLedBrAt said. Some are placed into the SVCPACK folder for later execution. NLDRV is in the Windows folder and contains the driver files you included in the Drivers section. The Unattended section has a RunOnce tab where you can include items to run at T-13. To run things after installation, I use Windows Post Install (WPI). Please see the forum a couple below the nLite forum. Enjoy, John.
  3. David McMahon, the calling of WMP11 Slipstreamer is built into nLite now, but it expects you to have it installed. There are a number of AddOns for IE8, but it cannot be integrated directly. Try searching for one that goes with your version of Windows - lots of posts lately about this. Sorry, can't answer the MSN Messenger question. I think MS updates includes updates to all your installed MS SW. I have no experience here, but I suspect it needs to look around and see what you have installed. Hopefully, someone else will be able to respond to your last two questions. Enjoy, John.
  4. nik, what is dotnetfx3.exe in your hot fix section? If this is really .NET Framework, then you need to remove it because .NET cannot be run as an update. Besides this, the most likely candidate I see is your audio drivers. Are you sure you have the correct drivers for your audio card? You can try DLing and installing new drivers to see if this corrects the problem. Please let us know. Enjoy, John.
  5. kokain, Go to Windows DL Center and DL the SP3 that is commensurate with your version, then point nLite to this file in the Hot Fix section. IE8 has an AddOn for both XP and XP x64. Some others may have AddOns also, check the AddOns sub forum above. I suggest a virtual system for testing. VirtualPC, VirtualBox and VMware Server are all free. Good. You can do this out of Unattended RunOnce. Here is a site with many tweaks. A Google (or whatever) search will reveal more sites. I use Windows Post Install (WPI) for this. See forum below. The problem with using RunOnce here is that your account is not created yet (T-13), so the files/folders end up in weird places. You will need to do some research here. Perhaps the forum for the individual program. Most have an .ini file that holds some/most of the settings but may also have Registry entries. Some have a settings export/import function. System files can be included through the $OEM$ folder. See here. You will need to disable SFC if you change any system files before making an ISO. I suspect that the perfect disk cannot be created. So have fun, and if you have problems, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.
  6. 5eraph, thanks much for your reply. I did not realize that KB968220 was superseded. Thanks, John.
  7. 5eraph, thanks for your AddOn. It is a great step forward. I included it in my latest build and install (VMware Server) and have no errors in Setuperr or System Log. I have used IE8 very little, but fine so far. I do have a couple of questions. Trying to understand how these Real AddOns are constructed, I extracted Sereby's 3 IE8 AddOn. In his entries inf he has the following two lines to protect the IE core from removal via nLite: [NeededComponents] 185,187Are these not needed in yours? Sereby also included KB968220, I think. I could not find it in yours. Can we integrate this update via nLite after your AddOn? Thanks for your comments but especially thanks for your AddOn. Have fun, John.

    help a noob

trav75, you should get no missing files messages after removing components via nLite. In the Components task, under Advanced is the default remove files. See below, from my Last Session. [RemoveFiles] clock.avi yahoo.bmp swtchbrd.bmpIf you need clock.avi, most don't, then remove the name from the list. I have no idea what you are doing with the Thumdrive thingy, so can't guess what is causing your problems. So, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.
  9. Tament, many versions of nLite have been released since 2006. Have you searched your nLited folder for these files? Please post a link to the 2006 post and, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.
  10. lukes123, I am not really sure what you mean by 'Owner' account. Windows creates certain account(s) according to what Windows version you are installing. There are several threads here dealing with trying to get rid of some of these account(s). Try a search. Enjoy, John.
  11. rick456, there are a number of posts about MCE here. Recently a poster reported that if you use nLite to copy your CD, after copying the first it will request the second. It is more or less automatic. You can give this a try or search these forums for the post. Enjoy, John.
  12. ptmoy, you should get no error messages from nLite and should not ignore them. So, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.
  13. I think this is correct. If you mean by 'it seems to call it TWO sessions', that nLite creates two Last Session files, I don't think so.However, if you are happy, I am happy. Have fun, John.
  14. Would it be possible to do a flat install? Boot a DOS floppy and use it to copy the nLited folder to the HDD. Then, using DOS, run the setup file in the folder. Just a crazy idea. Any thoughts? Enjoy, John.
  15. Sephiroth, see attached. Obtained by running WMP10 installer in a command prompt with /? switch. Enjoy, John .
  16. arpharazon, thanks. I see you are running under XP. Are you installing on HW or a virtual system? I use VMware Server and my resolution has always worked fine. During Setup, the window is small, but when Windows comes up, all is good and the resolution is correct. I notice you are including no drivers. If you are installing on HW, perhaps the Windows default display driver does not support 1024x768. Enjoy, John.
  17. arpharazon, missing resolution may be a consequence of using XP x64. There have been other posts about missing resolution, but I don't remember the outcome. Please do a search here. And Please attach your latest Last Session. Enjoy, John.
  18. crunchie, this is apparently one of those things that some have good luck with and others not. This MS KB950722 explains it. If you are having joy with it, enjoy, John.
  19. MrSinatra, please, please do us all a favor and edit your last two posts and remove your pasted Last Session files. Then, attach (not paste) them as originally requested. To attach them, see the 'Browse...' and 'UPLOAD' buttons in the lower right corner of the Reply screen. Thanks much, John. EDIT: After all my begging for your Last Session, I see nothing that really concerns except for running under Vista and running multiple times against the same source. Your comment about the one minute interval concerns me because one has SP2 and the other SP3. The bottom line here, as in many things, is, if you are happy with the results, you're good to go. I would not be comfortable with what you have done, but you can use these tools as it suits you. Enjoy, John.
  20. arpharazon, I was wrong about the SP compatibility. You are correct, sorry about that. I am really uncomfortable with the pre type work with WMP11 and its updates. Have you checked the update pact you are using to see if it has WMP11 or its updates? I would suggest you run some experiments. Do no pre work. Create a fresh source, run you Last Session with your update pack and let us know if that works. I have never used update packs for the reasons of lack of control and understanding of what is in it. I suggest you should check out the thread where you got the pack. It should have a list of contained updates. They should be in the correct order. Does it contain IE7 (or IE8), IE updates, WMP11 (and updates?) So, you can try it under XP Compatibility mode and with these other inclusions/exclusions. Please let us hear. Kurt_Aust's three digit numbers are for his UpdatePrep.bat and I don't think they have any other use other than to enable a human to verify the order. You are correct again, KB number are not always in order. The order should be the MS release order. Enjoy, John.
  21. MrSinatra, that is the correct size for SP3, and I suspect the MD5 is OK. There are many hash checkers available for free. I use HashTab - creates a new tab on the Properties screen. The MD5 should be BB25707C919DD835A9D9706B5725AF58, if you have a chance to check it out. We really need to see some Last Session files to try to determine what is going on with your various builds. In some cases of users doing things that are not recommended, they have at least temporary success. Often some time later, they return to report that functions are missing or not working correctly. I call these bizarre symptoms and they seem to accompany things like running nLite under the wrong OS, or multiple times against the same source. Enjoy, John.
  22. MrSinatra, here is KB950722 that speaks to slipstreaming SP3 under Vista for an XP build. Please post the size (not size on disk), name and the MD5 for your copy of SP3. Enjoy, John.
  23. arpharazon, what version of Windows are you running nLite under? I see that it is Windows NT 5.2.3790. This is the same as my XP x64. I think this version number is also W2003, both 32 and 64 bit. Are you running nLite under a 64 bit OS? If so, that may be your problem. You can try running nLite.exe in SP2 XP Compatibility Mode. Also take a look in dosnet.inf. Both of these files should be mentioned there. The files should be in your dllcache folder in the System32 folder after install. Please let us know what you learn. Enjoy, John.
  24. MrSinatra, what you have found is NOT a bug and again I ask you to change the thread title. No one is saying you cannot add an SP with Vista running in another partition. What we are all saying is that you cannot build an XP ISO under Vista and slip an SP. There is a thread with many replies recently that discusses slipping more than one SP. At the very least it is space wasteful and not necessary. I go further and say it should not be done at all. If you will read my first reply and the request for your Last Session.ini and respond, we may be able to determine what happened. Please attach the Last Session for your first and second attempt and explain about including one or more SPs. MS says you should include one SP after another, but they are talking about on a running (Kels live) system. Since you are slipstreaming, you only need ONE! We have been through this many times - you have not found an nLite bug. You may not like how nLite handles the situation, but executed properly, users do not have any problems. Enjoy, John.
  25. bmoses, I am stumped. Your MD5 and size agree with mine. You can certainly slip SP3 into a CD with SP1 (or SP2), if the SP was part of the original Windows CD. I have not ever used networked files so cannot tell you if this could be a problem. I would assume it should work. I have a vague memory of others talking about networked files. Please do a search here for hopefully more information. Is it possible for you to try it not over a network? I hope some others will comment. Please let us know if you can try without the network. Enjoy, John.
