MrSinatra, why do you post in your first thread that you have found an nLite bug? You have found no such thing. It would be best if you would change your title - edit your first post. As 5eraph says, you cannot slipstream SPs with Vista to create an XP ISO. Many threads here discuss this very subject and recently. If you need help, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.

olivex, please, in the future post your problems in only one thread. I DLed an SP3 1.0.3 file from RyanVM (here) and extracted it, but it does not have ntfs.sys in it. So, what file did you DL (provide link?) If the file is a 7z extension, just extract it, change the name to capitals and then compress it into a .7z again. This is the first time I have heard that any file had to be in all capitals - very strange. Do you have this file in your original CD and if so, is it all caps? I have one in my XP x64 and it is all caps. As a reminder, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.

stein_brian, thanks for the experiment results. I know of no guides except the threads I suggested you search for here. Some months ago there was a rash of posts about the eee (or whatever) netbook. Otherwise you will need to run some more experiments. I strongly recommend that you install a virtual system for this. VirtualPC, VirtualBox and VMware Server are all free. This will stop the burning of coasters and install is faster than on HW. I install my XP x64 under VMware Server in less than 15 minuets. First I suggest you try setting Computer Type to Automatic, removing all of your Services changes and removing about half of your component removals. In my nLite (x64), I cannot even see some of the options you have selected (guess they are not present or not support by nLite for x64). This makes it impossible for me to look at yours and see what warnings are being issued. Perhaps the place to start would be all those that are in red. Remember to always start with a fresh source. Please let us know what you learn. Enjoy, john.

HowdyDoody, nLite will be more than happy to erase your rewritable media, if you tell it to Erase in the pull down menu on the Create Bootable ISO page. It dose it much more quickly than my Nero and does not eject the disk when the erase is complete. Enjoy, John.

barnold, your first update appears to be out of order by KB number, although it is the release order that counts. I do not know what the update does and it may be fine there. You can attach to any reply, but we are OK without the BSOD. Enjoy, John.

barnold, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Hot fixes are integrated in the order in which MS released them, oldest at the top of the list. The RyanVM forum offers Update Packs and each should have a list of included updates, so you can see the proper order even if you do not want to use the pack. Enjoy, John.

stein_brian, I see no problems with your source. I wonder why the .NET folder is there however. Do you want .NET Framework installed? That folder may be more than 200 MB. Please let us know how your experiment goes. There have been a number of posters here trying to slip netbooks, but none lately. I suggest you do some searching for their experiences. Enjoy, John.

MrRaines, I was simply saying that you could use Vista and nLite as long as you did not slipstream an SP. Others with source problems have had to do this. Then you just install the SP after you install your ISO. Glad you are running and you are welcome. Enjoy, John

Augusto13, the Last Session will be in your source folder after running nLite, unless you disabled the option in Options. I suggest you try cutting your CD with nLite - I know that works. Enjoy, John.

mooms, I DLed and tried to install qfecheck.exe on my VMware Server XP x64 and get the attached error. I find a setup.log in my Windows\Repair folder and it contains an entry for hal.dll. I could find no x64 version of qfecheck.exe, but the article you pointed to says it applies to x64. I extracted it and ran qfecheck.exe in a command prompt and was told that I have SP2 installed (correct) but no hot fixes (not true, several show in Add/Remove.) Any ideas? Thanks, John.

Augusto13, with the paucity of information, no. You can use nLite to create and burn your ISO - and get a good boot sector. Also, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.

MrRaines, you can also not slip an SP and do that after you install. If you were running a virtual system you could install XP and run nLite under that to create your ISO. I think nLite uses the Windows command line slipstream for SPs, so it is really no different. Enjoy, John. EDIT: You caught me with your reply. I assumed g-force's link led to the MS article that said specifically that slipstreaming an XP SP under Vista does not work. If you search MS KBs, you will find it. John.

emailaya, there are lots of hits on ntdll.dll - worth a look, I think. Did you use a fresh source to add the RyanVM Update Pack? Please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.

iambk, where did you get your Windows ISO? Is it legal with a legal key? How did SP2 get integrated into it? Some have Windows folders that have been modified in some way that is not compatible with nLite. Have you tried making an ISO with an unmodified source to see if that has any of your problems? Please post a screen shot of the files/folders in your original source. Simply double click it to open it in Windows Explorer and take a screen shot. Enjoy, John.
-
stein_brian, I think I understand what you are trying to accomplish but having a small system that does not work will not serve. You can use nLite to create your ISO and burn your CD, just don't make any modifications. This is an experiment to see if the source even has a chance of working. Please open your unmodified source folder with Windows Explorer (just double click the folder). Take a screen shot and post it for us to see the files/folders it contains. You can choose to not make the CDd with no changes but I am afraid I am out of ideas. You can wait till we get a look at your screen shot, but that may not clear the issue either - your choice. Enjoy, John.
-
stein_brian, I now suspect your source is the problem. Sometime these CD images have been modified (SP3 added, etc) by some method. Then nLite messes up the ISO. Please post a screen shot of a Windows Explorer view of your files/folders. I suggest you try making an ISO from the source unmodified. You can use nLite if you wish - just uncheck all tasks except Create Bootable ISO. See if that installs and runs. Enjoy, john.

5eraph, your number 1 is exactly right! Please see the top of his Last Session (Windows NT 6.0.6002 Service Pack 2, v.286.) This is Vista. MrRaines, you cannot run nLite under Vista to create an XP ISO. Under certain circumstances this may work but not slipstreaming an SP. Your Last Session does not show integrating an SP. This increases my suspicion that you have run nLite more than once. Other than that, your Last Session looks fine. Enjoy, John.
-
nik, this is really a strange one. Have you run this SW before using nLite and it worked OK? Have you tried the makers support site and/or support forum? Have you searched here and there for others with similar problems? So, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.

tetrapro, I have changed my logonui.exe (and use the same Registry update) and have no such problem. I suspect your landscape.exe. Where did you get that. Attach it, if you like and I will take a look. Good luck, John. EDIT: Hopefully you can go into Safe Mode and change your Registry back until you correct your problem with landscape.exe. Tap F8 when booting, select Safe Mode and make you Registry change and reboot. Please let us know what you discover. John.

MrRaines, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.

sanju, I think you will see your updates in your Registry - HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates. Please take a look and let us know what you find. I suspect b-man is correct and you cannot remove them, but do some searching and let us know what you find. Enjoy, John.

stein_brian, you can always add to a post with an edit. Whenever I have seen symptoms like yours, it is almost always due to running nLite more than once against he same source. Are you sure you have always started with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders? Please read again my first reply. You should not need to edit any .inf files. Have you edited any .sif, .ini or .inf files? Why did you specify 'ComputerType = Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) PC' (I use Automatic) and what do you use for an Internet connection (you remove Ethernet (LAN)?) You also should not need to alter the services. They work just fine with defaults. What kind of source CD do you have - OEM, Retail, Recovery, or ...? Are you using a virtual system, if not, I recommend one - VirtualPC, VirtualBox, or VMware Server - all free. Enjoy, John.
-
tetrapro, I think the problem with your welcome.reg is that your UIHost value needs double back slashes, not single, thus: "UIHost"="%systemroot%\\system32\\landscape.exe"You can try this simply by running your .reg file and seeing what it looks like in your Registry. If you look before, your will see that it is unmodified. Enjoy, John.
-
stein_brian, don't really know, but I suspect you have run nLite multiple times against the same source, so, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.

direx and bugmenot, I too have been looking for one and as far as I know, it does not exist. I have been trying to learn how to do this for some time, including asking for guidance on the RyanVM forum. It seems that making a 'true'/'slipstream' AddOn is knowledge reserved for the cognoscenti and guarded closely. I tried my first attempt today and was amazed that nLite did not complain, but I got a 'Setup cannot proceed...' error during install. I will continue to try, but I cannot say when, if ever, I will have an IE8 Slipstream AddOn for x64. I encourage all to go to the RyanVM forum and read the tutorials on making AddOns and creating entries.ini files. With many on the job, perhaps we can be successful. Good luck all, John.
