bizzybody, the Last Session should be on the CD. Enjoy, John.

TommyK, there are several posts about nVidia's 185.85 release. They made some change and it no longer integrates in nLite. Please do a search to see the threads. Enjoy, John.

5eraph, great, thanks. Enjoy, John.

5eraph, thanks much! I have DLed both the unpatched/untweaked AddOn and the .ini for your tweaks. I have a couple of questions. When I finish modify the .ini do I just compress it with 7-Zip and place it into my hot fix section? I notice that many of your tweaks are identical to mine. Mine are in the form of .reg files I run out of WPI. If I define the same search providers as you do, will that cause a problem? Thanks again. Enjoy, John.

5eraph, thanks, I really appreciate your willingness to respond to requests. Enjoy, John.

[RESOLVED] IE8 hang on CNET under XP x64.
johnhc replied to johnhc's topic in Windows XP 64 Bit Edition
OK, I have determined what is going on and it concerns my cookie policy. CNET wants to set a cookie and I have my cookie policy set to 'Prompt' and if I respond 'Block Cookie', apparently CNET keeps trying using more and more memory. If I allow one cookie, then CNET is happy and all works fine. Thanks, cluberti for your help. Have fun, John. -
mariusyca, I think your friend is a little paranoid. Of course compression/decompression pushes even my rather fast desktop to 100% CPU. If I am in danger of burning up my computer, it is my problem not nLite's. I do keep an eye on my CPU temperature and make changes to my ventilation if I think it is getting too high. Many, many people use a laptop to run nLite and I am sure none have been burned up by running nLite. Some people don't like to press the accelerator on their car to the floor and I guess there are some who don't like to see their CPU at 100%. I am sure there are a huge number of programs that will peg a CPU. Hope your friend eases up on you. Enjoy, John.

5eraph and Kurt_Aust, this is what I would like to see: An IE8 AddOn with no updates. I will get my updates as I see fit from the Kurt_Aust list. I personally like the tweaks that are currently present in your AddOn, 5eraph. But I would agree with an AddOn with only the original installer, as long as you will give us a method to include your tweaks. Perhaps a separate AddOn of your tweaks and I could add my own. I was unaware that you, 5eraph, were including newly released updates into the AddOn. This would mean that I would need to get me a new copy of your AddOn each time updates are released. I would rather have one place for my updates (Kurt_Aust) and only update the IE8 AddOn for 5eraph's possible corrections (probably low at this time). Thanks to both of you for you work. Enjoy, John.

satanist2001, when you say reinstall, I assume it once had XP? You still are very stingy on your information - 32 or 64 bit XP? I looked at the ASUS site and found XP drivers and SiS site has drivers but I did not find M671DX. I suggest you try Google (or your favorite) as well as these two sites. There are too many variables in your first post data. So, you need to search for what you need for exactly what HW you have. Enjoy, John.
-
satanist2001, what are you trying to down grade to? I assume XP. You need to find drivers for your chip set and other controllers in your system and an (assume XP) install CD. Please give us more information. Enjoy, John.

bizzybody, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.

Thanks, Kurt_Aust for all your work! I am really glad you moved to IE8! Have fun, John. EDIT: I am curious. Have you considered going to 5eraph's IE8 Real AddOn? I use it, then place all the IE8 updates into the hot fix section.

[RESOLVED] IE8 hang on CNET under XP x64.
johnhc replied to johnhc's topic in Windows XP 64 Bit Edition
cluberti, thanks for your response. It helps very much just to know that you don't have the problem. I have brought some things over from IE7, so maybe in these there is a problem. I will start by stripping them out before I install on my VM. They would be the same between my real and virtual machines. I will look into the IIS tool if I don't make progress now. To clarify, when my memory begins to increase, it is increasing without bound. If left going, I get an "Out of Memory" report. In my VM I get a message saying that the Script is causing slow performance and do I want to stop it. When I respond 'yes', memory use goes down, then shortly starts back up. My real machine quit giving the slow script message. Thanks, John. EDIT: I built a quick ISO, installed it on VM and did not allow three .reg files to run after install (WPI) that set parameters into IE8. I now have no memory eating problems and hangs. I need to narrow it down to which setting/tweak is the problem. -
I am running IE8 under XP x64. Most sites work fine but some hang and I must kill iexplorer.exe via the Task Manager. CNET is an example. To recreate the problem go to CNET, click on Downloads and scroll down and click on a DL (e.g. WinRAR). Sometime during this process, IE8 will hang. If the Task Manager is open you will see one of the several iexplorer.exe processes start taking more and more memory. Killing it seems to be the only solution. I am curious if XP (32 bit) has the problem or if anyone can reproduce this problem and, of course, I would really like to have a fix for it. This problem occurs on my real machine which I installed XP x64 on several years ago and installed IE8 using a DLed installer. I also run XP x64 on VMware Server and it has the same problem. IE8 was installed on the VM using nLite RunOnce exit, an .inf AddOn I created and a Real AddOn from 5eraph. I also removed IE8 then installed it from Windows Update. All have the same memory eating hang problem. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, John.

amoeba1980, OK, you want to do a two CD install. A search on this forum showed this. Also if you do a search on "two CD install", with the quotes you will find a couple more threads. Hope they help. Enjoy, John.

MasterShihoChief, thanks for getting rid of the huge post. Attached are screen shots of what you should see in nLite. I ran nLite and pointed to Multiple Drivers and selected the ones on the left. After they were selected, you should see the picture on the right. Your Last Session should show two drivers. Please give it a try and post your versions of my screen shots and your Last Session if it does not work. Anxious to hear. Good luck, John.

If all will see the the link I posted to Kurt_Aust's post, above, you will see 3.5 is exactly the way to go and Kurt_Aust even delineates the proper updates to include. Enjoy, John.
-
Did you do this (both inf files)? Please post your Last Session and the other stuff I requested. Enjoy, John.
-
MasterShihoChief, what is the result of the experiment I requested? Please consider my request to get rid of the huge post and post the items I have requested. Enjoy, John.

certifiedtek, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini. Make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Enjoy, John.

Use some other program to create an ISO. Why do you want to do this? NLite does just fine creating ISOs and CDs/DVDs. Use a DVD, don't know what you mean by part. Have fun, John.
-
Kelsenellenelvian, this is really neat, but what does it mean!?MasterShihoChief, attached is a Windows Explorer screen shot of the F6 drivers I DLed. There are two .inf files. When you point nLite to this folder, choose Multiple Drivers so both will be included. Include no other drivers, just the Intel AHCI ones and make sure your controller is set to AHCI mode in your BIOS. EDIT: Others have had trouble with the nVidia 185.85 drivers. I don't know if this applies to the Notebook, but please see the recent posts on 185.85.
-
MasterShihoChief, I am going to look some more, but I have a question. Is your SATA controller set to AHCI in your BIOS? In general, you only need drivers for the HW that you are using. If you are not using the jmicron, then you don't need a driver for it. You do need to make sure your HDD is connected to the Intel AHCI controller. More later. Would it be possible for you to stick this Everest file into a folder and compress it with 7-Zip or what ever you use? I think it will be plenty small enough to fit if you do. If you can attach it then please delete all this in the post - thanks! Enjoy, John. EDIT: Right now my goal is to get where you have the correct text mode drivers and can install. Later the whole thing can be considered. Did you look in your NLDRV folder for your drivers? Please compress and attach your text mode driver folder - thanks.
-
MasterShihoChief, I think the BSOD (07B) is just telling you that you do not have the correct text mode drivers. Again, please post the link to where you have DLed the drivers and we will take a look at them. Also post a screen shot of a Windows Explorer view of you SATA text mode driver folder. Are you running RAID? If so, you also need RAID text mode drivers. When do you get the BSOD - shortly after installation starts or some time later? I will be back after dinner to take a look. Enjoy, John. EDIT: Forgot to say that after running nLite, your drivers will be in the your source folder\AMD64\NLDRV folder and after installation they will be in the C:\Windows\NLDRV folder.

MasterShihoChief, I am concerned with the large number of text mode drivers. The problem with text mode drivers, I have learned here, is that when several for the same device are included, then only the last one gets loaded (I guess they all get installed in the same place). So, you have included many text mode drivers and I suspect the last one is not the correct one. Your description shows that Ich8m is your controller type. I suggest you include only the drivers for it. Remove all the 10, 7 and 9 drivers. Also please post a link to where you are getting your drivers. I assume your original CD contains SP2. If not, you need to either run nLite under x64 or see this great guide to run under XP and have SP integration work properly. And, make sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders, do all your work in one nLite session and integrate only one SP. Please report when you have a solution, so others can benefit. Let us know when you have tried with only the 8 driver. Enjoy, John.
