bjhs, I see a number of problems, so I will ask you to run some experiments on your VM. First, please see my attached Help (very useful, see ? in circle next to many options) for the ProgFilesPath option in Unattended section. Environmental variables are not permitted. You are running nLite under Vista (or W7) and this can be a problem especially if you are integrating a Service Pack. I don't see your doing this and if you started with a fresh copy of you source, as you say, it already contained SP3 - true? A big problem is that you have included updates to IE8 but did not include IE8. To make the nLite run faster, please remove all updates and all the (very excessive!) drivers (not needed on VM, anyway), change your ProgFilesPath parameter to meet the requirements and try the ISO on your VM. Please let us know the result and we'll go from there. Enjoy, John.

Bendfella, we cannot tell much without your Last Session.ini. Please attach it as requested in the BOLD RED letters above. Have you run nLite more than once against the same source? Always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders and run nLite only once. Enjoy, John.

bjhs, welcome. Please attach your Last Session.ini as requested in BOLD RED letters above. Have you run nLite more than once against the same source? . Always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders and run nLite only once. Enjoy, John.

graytest, your Last Session is very minimal and I would expect no problems. I suspect there is something wrong with your driver. Thanks for the title change and the attached Last Session.ini. I also suspect you got a Stop 07B BSOD - inaccessible HDD. This is saying it is missing a boot critical driver (text mode). If you get this error again, please post a screen shot of the message. I Googled "user-mapped section open" and got lots of hits - please give a look. Perhaps it is a Permissions or UAC problem. Just another reason to run under XP, but you can try modifying the UAC and right click the file and give yourself full permissions. Enjoy, John.

jlwater, you are welcome. Sorry that we ran into this so late in the game. At the bottom of this page is a link to the Unattended Guide. You can do most of what nLite does directly with tools MS provides in XP. It is not as easy to use and, of course, not automatic. If the Driver Packs allow business use, then you can go that way. I should point out however that using these free tools in a business environment can be problematic. In the case of nLite, nuhi (author/owner) has not been active here in over a year. Enjoy, John.

graytest, you should be able to attach your Last Session. Simply use the Browse button to find the file, select it, then click Upload. Your title is not very descriptive. It will be difficult for others to find your thread. You can edit your first post and alter the title to reflect the error. Now, I have not seen this message before, but I do see some problems. First you are running nLite under Vista (or W7) to create an ISO for XP. This can lead to problems especially if you integrate an Service Pack. You have not done so in this run, but if you have run nLite more than once against the same source, many problems can occur. Always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders. I also see that you have included about all the Intel drivers know to man or woman. This is not necessary. Please see Fernando 1's thread above about Intel SATA/RAID drivers. I suggest you use his. He is the driver expert here. Enjoy, John.

jlwater, I suggest you go to the various vendor's web sites, DL the drivers for your HW and integrate them using nLite. That way you get only the drivers you really need and you get the latest copies of them. I have not asked before, but what is the normaliz.dll problem? Enjoy, John.
-
jlwater, I would suggest you will need to do some experiments. Are you installing to a RAID or SATA drive? If so, you must integrate your driver for it. Otherwise, you really don't have to have drivers to get going. So, integrate, using nLite, any drivers you need for a RAID and/or SATA, then skip the driver pack all together. Since the problem occurs on HW and not VM, then it may have to do with a driver, perhaps the video driver. My personal opinion is that using something like driver packs is asking for trouble. Mixing programs (nLite, driver pack integrator etc) confuses the issue and makes it near impossible to determine where the fault is. After you run this experiment, if it fails, then run again with no updates ( and no driver packs). Start each experiment with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders. Please attach your Last Session with each experiment. Enjoy, John.

RT Seven Lite - RC build 1.7.0 and Beta build 2.6.0
johnhc replied to bensam56's topic in Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2
bensam56, looking at nice_guy75's posted ultimate.xml I noticed this code: <component name="Microsoft-Windows-BaseCrashDumpSettings" processorArchitecture="amd64" publicKeyToken="31bf3856ad364e35" language="neutral" versionScope="nonSxS"> <!-- [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\CrashControl] --> <AutoReboot>1</AutoReboot> <CrashDumpEnabled>2</CrashDumpEnabled> </component> I could get no traction searching for the key words used (e.g., "Microsoft-Windows-BaseCrashDumpSettings"). Is this xml just internal to RT7Lite? I tried it in my AutoUnattend.xml but WSIM rejected all the terms. I am looking for a means to turn off Auto Reboot very early during installation to allow me to see a BSOD that occurs during the first reboot. Just changing the Registry key does not do the trick, I guess because the Registry change comes too late in the install. Thanks, John. -
quantumriff, wild guess: UAC or file permissions problem. Enjoy, John.

jlwater, thanks for the Last Session.ini. Have you run nLite more than once against the same source files/folders? You should always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders and run nLite only once doing all your work. Where did your updates (the list, that is) come from? How did you slip the driver packs? Did you test the exact same ISO on VB as the one you installed on your HW? Enjoy, John.

Critical update on tuesday causing blue screens
johnhc replied to gosh's topic in Windows XP 64 Bit Edition
I installed the KB this morning and all seems to be OK. I have tried a USB stick and my USB printer and am still running just fine. Enjoy, John. -
thedockson, probably removing Help and Support, but please attach your latest Last Session.ini. Also if you will hover your mouse over Help and Support on the nLite Component Task, you will see that msinfo is removed. Enjoy, John.

Find standalone oficial windows driver updates

semo.pz, I would suggest that you go to the vendor's site and DL the latest. Enjoy, John. -
Critical update on tuesday causing blue screens
johnhc replied to gosh's topic in Windows XP 64 Bit Edition
gosh, Google gets lots of hits on a BSOD with this KB, but I found none for Stop 0D1. If you are running ESET NOD32, then some hits say be sure it is updated. I also run XP x64 but will refrain from installing this update till I feel better about it. Enjoy, John. EDIT: Found this many times in my searching. Many are having problems with this update. -
vilrockerdefer, thanks for the Last Session, but that still does not look like the one in your source folder due to the date. If there is more than one Last Session, that means you have run nLite more than once against the same source. Please look at this thread on MCE. Found this through Google - MSFN search is not very good. Perhaps it is just the Components folder that needs to be copied. I also remember that some versions of MCE can take only some version of Service Pack. Please make sure your are adding the correct SP. Did you place all the Network adapters there? They really do no good unless you have the MAC address that goes with the adapter. Please see the help text on the Network setting tab of the Unattended Task. Enjoy, John.

thedockson, you are the third person (one twice) today that I have told that running nLite under Vista or W7 and integrating a Service Pack will not work. I really strongly urge all nLite users to spend some time looking at previous posts to see what is typical. After you rerun nLite (against a fresh copy of your CD files/folders) using XP or not integrating an SP, then please let us know if you still have problems. BTW, you need only one SP and that should be SP3. Enjoy, John.

-X-, strange, there is a Movie Maker in the Components Task on nLite for me (XP x64). Is msmsgs really MSN Messenger? There is a Windows Messenger (my original reply was wrong here, will edit) and MSN Explorer. What/which is what/which? Enjoy, John.
-
vilrockerdefer, your Last Session.ini is in the source folder after running nLite. We really need to see it before you try again. I am not familiar with MCE, but remember people talking about multiple CDs. Please do some searching here to find a thread. I would think you will need more than one. You definitely do not run nLite against each of the CDs. Somehow you must copy both CDs to your source folder. This problem has been solved - please search. Enjoy, John.
-
vilrockerdefer, if you removed the languages using nLite, you should get no error messages at all during the running of nLite or installing. You should not need to modify any files after running nLite. I suspect you have run nLite more than once against the same source. Please attach your Last Session.ini as requested by the BOLD RED letters above. As I remember, XP MCE has more than one CD. Did you copy all to your working folder? Enjoy, John.
-
MrBiggz, you are running nLite under Vista and integrating a Service Pack. This is going to produce unpredictable results. If you are going to include a Service Pack, you must run nLite under XP. Please look under the Tweaks Task for your Explorer changes. In the Components Task, I see Movie Maker, MSN Explorer and Windows Messenger, but no MSN Messenger. Your Last Session reflects no component removal at all. Be sure to always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders an run nLite only once. After you run nLite under XP, please let us know if you still have these weird problems. Enjoy, John.
-
Tdunk18, I see you are back to running nLite under W7 (or Vista). As I said before, this is doomed to failure if you include an SP. Enjoy, John.
-
Tdunk18, I would say you posted the wrong Last Session.ini. You should attach the one named (exactly) Last Session.ini. It will be found in your source folder after you run nLite. There should be only one since you are running nLite only one time against a fresh copy of your CD files/folders. You can use this file to do your next nLite run, so you do not need to re-select all the files. Please do a run with no updates, just the AddOns and let us know. Enjoy, John.

RT Seven Lite - RC build 1.7.0 and Beta build 2.6.0
johnhc replied to bensam56's topic in Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2
Bilar Crais, how did you make your ISO and burn your DVD? If you are running under a VM, please post a screen shot of the error message. Enjoy, John. -
Tdunk18, how did you integrate the AddOns? I see none in the Last Session. Here is a link to an AddOn maker on RyanVM forum. There is also a "How to" above in the AddOn sub-forum. Both of these forums should be good candidates for AddOns. They are fairly easy to make but you should know that there are basically two types. One is a real or integrated AddOn in which the files are integrated by nLite and there are .inf or svcpack ones, where nLite creates a .inf file and includes the installer in the svcpack folder to be executed during install. I use only the IE8 AddOn (XP x64) so am not familiar with all of yours and cannot comment if they are just bad. It is a real possibility. XP MCE should be fine for running nLite. I install most of my applications using the Unattended-RunOnce exit and WPI. I use Open Office, Thunderbird and many more. The guide I follow is Kurt_Aust's - here. It is for XP x64, but the techniques are applicable to XP. The WPI forum is a couple below the nLite one. Did you drop all updates and oemscan this run? I noticed only SP2 was integrated - why? You only need to integrate SP3, no matter what your CD has on it. Enjoy, John.
