I was required to login when I powered up this morning (I did not log out yesterday) and again just now after returning to the MSFN site. It looks like the logged out portion of the title is back. John.

Cheetah, cracking is not a subject we talk about here, but whether what you are asking is illegal or not, I am not the one to give advice. Your Last Session says you have removed DHCP Client and DNS Client as well as a ton of other network components. I would guess it is no wonder the LAN does not work. Ponch means a CD from MS that allows you to upgrade from, say, W2000 to XP. I don't think you have one. Enjoy, John.

Davy49, yes, please see here. Enjoy, John.

setupcomplete.cmd does not run
johnhc replied to unattendant's topic in Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2
unattendant, I am pretty much out of ideas. Are you testing on a virtual system? All the information I have ever seen show $OEM$ in all capitals. You show it sometime in caps and sometime in lower case. I would think it would make no difference, but I am surprised often. I should note that after I install W7 (Ultimate x64), my setupcommand.cmd is still present in the Windows\setup\scripts folder. Is your setup\scripts folder there? If not, then I would think it is not getting copied. Enjoy, John. -
Error after Update to 8.0.3
johnhc replied to SirHaschke's topic in Windows Post-Install Wizard (WPI)
SirHaschke, WPI will not start automatically when the DVD is inserted. Please see my last post about the change to WPI.exe from WPI.hta. Please go to the release Sticky thread for 8.0.3 and make sure you have latest copy of the $OEM$ folder for the OS you are running. Enjoy, John. -
setupcomplete.cmd does not run
johnhc replied to unattendant's topic in Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2
unattendant, here is the complete path to the log:"?:\Windows\Panther\UnattendGC\setupact.log", where ? is your W7 system drive after install. You say you placed the setupcomplete.cmd in "c:\sources\$oem$\$$\setup\scripts". I assume you mean that it is in the root of your install image, not necessarily in the C: drive? Enjoy, John. -
Thanks for the info, John. I did mouse over everything before selecting it for removal, and if I wasn't 100% sure about anything I wouldn't take it out. I haven't used Windows extensively in over 4 years, so I don't really remember exactly how it works, but I don't need to activate Windows if I'm not doing updates and such, do I? I'd like to strip the IE core because I certainly see no use for having it, but if it's something that I can't just get rid of I'll have to rethink that option.. I'll try to dig out a fresh XP disk from the depths of my storage and try another go. Is there anything I should specifically avoid to retain the ability to format during install? Cheetah, you will not be able to use XP 30 days after you install it if you do not activate it. If you are willing to re-install it then, then I guess you will be OK. You can update a non activated system, but you will most likely need IE. I suggest you use a virtual system for your testing - no more burning CDs/DVDs. VMware Player, VirtualPC and VirtualBox are all free. Enjoy, John.

B609, I suspect your text mode driver. Where did it come from? Have you seen the Sticky above on SATA/RAID Intel drivers? I also hope you are not using F6 because this will lead to corrupted text mode drivers unless you disable OEM Preinstall in the Unattended - General tab (you did not). Enjoy, John.
-
Cheetah, if the starting copy of XP had been processed before by nLite, then all bets are off. You should always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders and do all your work in one nLite session. Removing IE core is problematical, but not your no-format problem. Lots of XP is dependent on XP core, including Windows Activation. For each of the Components that you remove you should look at the text on the right when you mouse over it. Any Components in red especially. Enjoy, John.

maskiepop, did you DL nLite from the nLite web site and check the MD5 hash provided? If not, please do so. Enjoy, John. EDIT: Please also edit your first post and change your title to something meaningful (see Forum Rules).
-
Jar, please attach your Last Session.ini as requested in the BOLD RED letters above. MoreOrLess is correct, I have seen the same thing before I started using nLite. Also please tell us (link) where you got your RAID drivers. We will take a look. Enjoy, John.

Skeptical, please attach your Last Session.ini as requested in BOLD RED letters above. Enjoy, John.

urie, my screen shot is of W7 x64 Ultimate and it does not have a Starter version, so only four numbered folders. Why, I have not a clue - go figure MS? Enjoy, John.
-
DJB, I was aware of the Export function from ricktendo64's videos - think I used Export once. Since my posted screen shot has a Files folder, it must not be from deleting images since I deleted none. It must be from just running dism since that is all I have done to the install.wim. I added drivers and hot fixes but did not remove any packages. I just opened several boot.wim files with 7-Zip. All have a Files folder. The original has on one file and is 72 bytes. The one I have added a driver to has many files and is about 30 MB - weird. Thanks, John. EDIT: The question is is the install.wim file any smaller without the Files folder?
-
The reason why I think it created that folder is because I deleted folders 1-4 on my 32bit disc so I only had Ultimate 32 DJB, here is screen shot of my install.wim after dism has been run on it. I have deleted none of the unused images. My original DVD install.wim does not have the Files folder. Enjoy, John.
-
DJB, I misunderstood your desire to delete the Files folder. It would seem, so far, that only jaclaz has a proposed method to recreate the .wim file after deleting it. Do you have any idea what will be the effect if you delete the file? Why do you want to delete it? Typically I would not think that MS would include a 500 MB folder if the files were not needed for something. Have you done any research on what the files are used for? I just searched my W7 installation and found no Files folder or 36338 file. Enjoy, John.

Error after Update to 8.0.3
johnhc replied to SirHaschke's topic in Windows Post-Install Wizard (WPI)
SirHaschke, I don't know where you are finding the autorun.exe. None of the copies of WPI I have on hand (going back to 7.6.0) have one. I assume it is very old and has been removed some time ago. You should start with the DLed latest WPI, copy your config, useroptions, windowsoptions and networkoptions (new to 8.0.0). You may need to sort through the themes, but they do change and you may need to upgrade. I cannot answer where the autorun.exe went (I never used it). Sounds like you are good to go. Also notice that the code to start the install phase of WPI has changed to call WPI.exe and not WPI.hta. Please see the DLs on the release page above. Enjoy, John. -
Error after Update to 8.0.3
johnhc replied to SirHaschke's topic in Windows Post-Install Wizard (WPI)
SirHaschke, you must start WPI from the WPI.exe. Did you do the saving of the config and the options files as above? I was surprised that your config file still says // WPI Config 7.7.0+ at the top. It should say // WPI Config 8.0.0+, at least mine does. Some, if not all, of the themes have changed and you may need to pick up the latest from the WPI 8.0.3 DL. Enjoy, John. -
I guess there is no extra folder in his install.wim. He is just looking his wim via 7zip and I have also tried with 7zip it shows some strange folder in the wim. Mine showing two folders "1" and "files" and I know there are no such folder in my wim I have already tried my install.wim and is working fine without any extra folders. nice_guy75, I just opened install.wim with 7-Zip (9.13 Beta) and I see folders 1,2,3,4, Files and an xml file. The four number folders are the different versions of W7 - Basic -> Ultimate. If you open one of these folders you will see Windows, Users and other W7 install folders. Enjoy, John.
-
DJB, I also don't know what extra folder you are talking about, but after you use DISM to mount your image, you can go into the folder it is mounted to and delete away. Enjoy, John.

Error after Update to 8.0.3
johnhc replied to SirHaschke's topic in Windows Post-Install Wizard (WPI)
SirHaschke, can you give us at least a brief translation into English, please? Also, please attach your config.js file. When do these errors occur - when you open WPI or later? Did you copy over your config, useroptions and windowsoptions file? I also think you need to not copy your themes folder. Did you do this? Enjoy, John. -
8.0.3 questions-white screen time, size of window.
johnhc replied to johnhc's topic in Windows Post-Install Wizard (WPI)
Great! Thanks, mritter. I am looking forward to the next release. Thanks, John. -
tecknomage, nLite does not use 16 bit code. I strongly suspect you have a bad DL. Have you checked the MD5 hash? Did you DL the installer from the nLite site? If you did not use the nLite site or the MD5 code does not agree with that posted on the nLite site, you have a bad DL - DL until you get a good copy. Enjoy, John.
-
shaaan, thanks for the Last Session. You are running nLite under 6.0.6002 (Vista maybe?). This is asking for trouble especially if you integrated a Service Pack. Can you run nLite under XP? If you have run nLite more than once against the same source, you can expect problems. Always start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders and run nLite only once doing all your work. Enjoy, John.
-
shaaan, the Last Session.ini is located in your source folder after you run nLite. Please do not attach the _u.ini file. Have you been through the nLite Guides on the nLite site and the Sticky Guide above? Enjoy, John.
