gokule, there is a sub-forum here concerning installing XP from a USB stick. I suspect it will cause you more headache than it is worth. First you need to determine if your machine will boot from a stick. Most older machines will not. My previous machine (built 2006 would not) but my current machine does. How are you booting your CD? How are you burning your CD? Why are you running SP2? You need to integrate only the latest SP and it should be SP3. I don't think you have a driver problem, you have a CD burn or something problem. Can you boot the original Windows CD? Please attach your latest Last Session (the one with a single nLite run). Enjoy, John.

gokule, unfortunately virtual systems do not test drivers. I use DVD+R/W, to deal with the coaster problem. When do you get the error? Is it after the installation or right off the bat? I suspect the problem may be that you have included many versions of the SATA driver. I suggest you include ONLY the driver required for your HW. Leaving all the other (non SATA) drivers should be fine, it should have nothing to do with your error. Enjoy, John.

richierich23, as cluberti says, we really need to see your Last Session and when you attach your winnt.sif, please obscure any private data, such as the CD key. The nLite Fully Automated will not normally skip the partition/format step. There is a way to do this via the winnt.sif, however. So, please attach (not paste) your files and we'll have a look. Enjoy, John.

up2us, when you say you have no video or network in the Device Manager, do you mean none at all? Usually that means the components are not enabled in your BIOS. Please open your Device Manager and under View, click Show hidden devices. Do you see your devices? If there is a missing driver, you usually see a yellow bang (yellow exclamation). It looks like you do not know what drivers to select in your Last Session. You need to determine which drivers are really needed and select them only. I also see you have selected some 64 bit drivers. These will not work on your 32 bit system and I am surprised you have not encountered BSODs. I also feel that you should never use other SW with nLite. Others may disagree, but using RVM then nLite is asking for trouble in my opinion. So, clean up your driver section to include only the needed drivers, run only nLite, start with a fresh copy of your source and run nLite only one time. Speaking of your source, where did it come from? DLing Windows from any site other than Microsoft's means an illegal copy of Windows and these forum rules do not permit discussion of illegal SW. Your copy of Windows must be legal with a valid and legal key. Enjoy, John. EDIT: I just noticed Vista and W7 drivers - not going to work (BSOD land). Get rid of them.

Possible to install W7 from a flat?
johnhc replied to johnhc's topic in Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2
grabben, thanks for your reply. I do have my RAID drivers injected into the boot #2 and install #4 images. I have done an install on HW (from DVD) before some time ago, but have changed much since then (but should not have changed drivers). This my first try from a flat. When it failed, I tried from a USB stick and DVD. They both failed with a BSOD (too fast to see code) on the first restart after Setup copied and expanded files. My image installs and runs fine on VMware Player, so I have some work to do to discover what is wrong. I do believe my flat install problem (screen shot above) is separate from my BSOD problem. I think boot #1 is the WinPE image and am wondering if it needs the RAID drivers to find my HDDs for a flat install. Thanks, John. EDIT: Just finished another install on VMware Player with the latest ISO and all is fine. That probably means it is a driver problem since drivers are not tested under VM. EDIT: Found solution via Google: "Virtual Disk Service" must be running. Mine was Disabled on my XP x64. Now Setup tells me that I need a driver (please see image). I have it injected into boot #2 and install #4 - will try boot #1. -
Possible to install W7 from a flat?
johnhc replied to johnhc's topic in Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2
Today, I tried an install from my XP x64 running system by double clicking the Setup.exe file in my W7 folder (install from a flat). A window opened and copied some files then a dialog asking if I wanted to check compatibility or install. I clicked Install Now and quickly got the attached error message. Setup could not find out about my HDDs. Since all are under a RAID controller (RAID 5), I suspect a boot driver problem. I checked (using dism /Get-Drivers) and found the RAID drivers in the boot.wim (Index 2) and the Install.wim (Index 4, Ultimate). There are no OEM drivers in the boot.wim (Index 1). Do I need to inject my RAID drivers into Index 1 of boot.wim? Any other ideas on this error? Thanks, John. -
MDT 2010: Driver error when booting from boot disk
johnhc replied to barnold's topic in Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2
barnold, I am not familiar with MDT, but I am wondering if you are using 64 bit drivers for your nvraid. The 32 bit drivers will most likely not work in a 64 bit environment. If you will post your two driver files and a link to where you are getting your drivers, we will take a look. Enjoy, John. EDIT: I found this via a Google search on status: 0xc0000359 (notice the c). There are a number of other hits also. -
Kurt_Aust, thanks for your reply. I have removed nothing. Perhaps it is a W7 quirk. I'll do more searching. Thanks, John. EDIT: I had a bad installer DLed from FileHippo. I found one on the Adobe site with the same size but different hashes. It installs fine. I have never figured out how to get an installer DL from the link you provide. I have always gotten mine from FileHippo. Mine is somewhat larger than yours. I assume that means it has the toolbar, but my IE8 on my VM does not. EDIT Again: I just DLed another copy from FileHippo and the hashes are the same as the one I DLed from Adobe - go figure.

Kurt_Aust, I used the latest Flash installer with the -install switch but Flash is not installed. The log looks fine and is attached (as a txt). You will see three install attempts. The first is from my Run1 batch and the others are from my simply running the installer. I see no Flash in my Control Panel and none in the Manage Add-Ons in IE8. When I attempt to test Flash on the Adobe site, it wants to install it. Should I have to install the ActiveX during the test? Why do we mess with installing it in the batch file? BTW, I am using your guide but am now installing and moving in the general direct of W7 x64. Thanks, John.

clivebuckwheat, you need to tell us what you are trying to do and with what. This forum is titled "Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2". I am not even aware that DISM is usable on XP or that XP .wim files exist. I use DISM on W7 x64 with the /recurse switch to inject several drivers from one folder. Enjoy, John.

WALKINDAKAT, I said earlier that mine were different but I looked again and they are the same. How are you checking your AutoUnattend.xml? I am using Windows System Image Manager (WSIM) and it is what changed my plain text keys to these funny looking sequences of upper/lower case letters with an = at the end. My Administrator PW does not have an = at the end. In the .xml you posted, the PWs are the same. The only difference I can see in what you are doing is that I do not have a <Domain></Domain> in either my account definition or auto logon. Don't know if this s a possible problem. Enjoy, John.

scotru, I am not familiar with W2003, but if you will attach your Last Session.ini (as requested in the BOLD RED letters above) we will take a look and see if we can see a problem. Do you have the identical HW that supersheep has? If you are installing on a VM (a great idea for testing - VMware Player, VirtualPC and VirtualBox are free), then please post a screen shot of your error message. BTW, nLite is licensed for personal use only and not business. Are you using nLite in a business environment? Enjoy, John.
-
sonnet, you are welcome. Glad you are good to go. Enjoy, John.
-
sonnet, thanks for the Last Session. I see you are running nLite under Vista (or W7). This can be a problem especially if you are integrating an SP. Did your CD come with SP2 or have you slipstreamed it? I am still leaning toward Command-line tools. Have you tried without removing it? I hope you are testing under a virtual system. VMware Player and VirtualBox are free. I see you have removed OOBE. The help text that shows when you mouse over the option says you cannot activate your copy of Windows without it. Hope you are OK with that. I assume you have run nLite only once against your fresh copy of the CD files/folders. Enjoy, John. EDIT: Meant to ask if you see anything from the GUI RunOnce command - "TimeOut /T 40" for example?
-
WALKINDAKAT, that is strange. My AutoUnattend.xml also has obscured PWs (from running WSIM). The PWs are the same but appear different in the XML file. I have used the same file to do several installs on VM with no such problems. I am doing an install right now and will let you know if I see anything strange. Good luck, John.
-
sonnet, in the future, please don't paste your Last Session - attach it. Also don't present a chopped up version. Attach the complete file - information at the top is very important. Also, we cannot even see how, or if, you are using the GUI RunOnce exit. The Command-line tools look like the most obvious candidate, but like I pointed out, we really cannot tell what you are trying to do. Please attach your complete Last Session. Enjoy, John.
-
WALKINDAKAT, I hope that is not your real key in the .xml file. If so, I suggest you remove it. Since the PWs for the Administrator are obscured, I cannot tell if they are the same for the autologon and the other. Are they the same? Enjoy, John. <Value>dgA3ADcAZQBEAFIAYQBDAFAAYQBzAHMAdwBvAHIAZAA=</Value> <Value>dgA3ADcAZQBEAFIAYQBDAEEAZABtAGkAbgBpAHMAdAByAGEAdABvAHIAUABhAHMAcwB3AG8AcgBkAA==</Value>

ignacio, here is a link to a procedure for making AddOns. I have not used it, so cannot answer further questions. Please post in that thread for more information. Enjoy, John.
-
Subtech, you cannot use the ENU updates for your CZE copy of Windows. Perhaps the KB numbers are the same for ENU and CZE, I do not know. If you look at note [1] in the link -X- provided, you will see that the .cab files are not really updates but AddOns. These are included in the same Hot Fix section of nLite. Running nLite multiple times against the same source is asking for trouble. So, please start with a fresh copy of your CD files/folders and run nLite only once doing all your work. I noticed you said you included SP2 and SP3. This is unnecessary - you need only the latest (SP3 in your case). When you post the next time, please attach (not paste) your Last Session.ini file. It helps all better understand what you are running with and doing. Please see this thread for some other ideas of how to get updates. My reply there may be useful for your language. Enjoy, John.

gildan2020, Ponch is correct. If you look at the help text on that tab, you will see this explained. Unfortunately there are several things that do not work correctly in this function. There are several threads about the specific problems, including one with my contributions. I have found that to make the options work properly, I had to edit the winnt.sif file after running nLite but before an ISO is created to implement my configuration. The nLite author/owner (nuhi) has been asked to correct these problems but is currently on hiatus and I, for one, am not expecting any updates - thus the editing of winnt.sif. gildan2020, next time please attach (not paste) your Last Session. Good luck, John.

CWilson, I don't see any culprit right now. I suggest you move to a virtual system for testing. VMware Player, VirtualPC and VirtualBox are all free. The Tweak "Explorer-Launch folder windows in a separate process" exposes a Windows bug and should be removed - has nothing to do with your problem. Have you tried with not removing SCSI/RAID driver? This is the real advantage to using a VM. Where is the error occurring - Text Mode or GUI? It would also be nice to see a screen shot of the error - also can do on a VM and no coasters. I too run XP x64 and have not seen this problem before. I do not remove SCSI/RAID driver. I would think the keep file would protect the file. You might try listing CMDIDE.SY_ in keep files. Does the error message indicate what file is calling the error? I have two copies of cmdide.sys; one as .SY_ (MD5 A663464027956BDECA29A652E7FAD96E) and one in the driver.cab (same MD5). Are you getting a missing message or a corrupted message? Enjoy, John.

Set W7 PageFile size at install?
johnhc replied to johnhc's topic in Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2
cluberti, thanks again. Since I am only settings my pagefile size during install, is it enough simply to set the Registry value to "C:\pagefile.sys 1024 1024" (desired size)? I tried it on my VM and it seems to work fine. Thanks, John. -
Set W7 PageFile size at install?
johnhc replied to johnhc's topic in Unattended Windows 7/Server 2008R2
Thanks cluberti. I looked at the key you pointed to and the value is ?:\pagefile.sys. Thanks, John. EDIT: Just tried it and it does work. Now the Registry value is set to "C:\pagefile.sys 512 512" and Properties shows it is no longer System-Managed.
