  1. Thats what I love the most about it. I'm telling all the people that had me work on their pc, about 7.
  2. Yes, there was a hand full of security updates recently, and every single one had a note: Windows 7 was not affected by the blah blah blah. Performance? The best OS hands down. Windows 7 is the best hardware compatible OS. Pretty much all you need is video drivers after an install and your good to go. Nuff' said
  3. Avira - AV Sphinx Win 7 Firewall Control - Firewall
  4. Heck ya buddy. I have 3 disks for just that reason. Partition and set them up so you have all that stuff organized. No worrying about formatting and losing anything.
  5. Thank goodness I opted for the Q9650 over that Q8xxx or whatever it was I picked to start with.
  6. Try the IE (No Add ons) from the start menu and see what happens. I just fresh installed last night and no issue. Sorry I could not be of more help.
  7. Microsoft MVP Suggestions
  8. I have since noticed there is an Antimalware service using just under 50MB. So roughly the entire footprint is around 50MB on 64bit 7. I bet that GUI looks kinda funky DP.
  9. Add menu items under right click Found this posted my Microsoft Answers Support Engineer : You can only associate one program with a file. Windows uses those associations to find the correct program to open the file with. If it is associated with more than one program it will cause a conflict. You can change the associated program, but not add a second association. There isn't a method that I'm aware of to add a entries manually to the right-click menu. You may be able to accomplish this with 3rd party software. I believe this is all of the Registry entries pertaining to the opening of BAT files as well:
  10. Ok, The only thing I could find shows it applies to old OS, but it describes the issue perfectly. KB 259908 I would say if your trying to run another file using a BAT file, then try having it open a CMD prompt and then close it when done to execute it. I'm shooting from the hip here, lol.
  11. Same here, no problems. 64 bit Win 7 RC 7100
  12. How resource-dependent would you say it is? I've got Windows 7 RC installed on my MacBook Pro under Parallels with 1GB of memory dedicated to it and use it strictly for using Office. Right now, it's got no security software installed whatsoever (the built-in firewall is disabled too) because I can't justify the need for it when I can simply roll back to a previous working state using Parallels, but it would be nice to have that extra layer of protection "just in case," provided it doesn't use that much CPU power and memory. uptime 15 hours, only service I see with MSE is running at 3892 K right now. The actually load is non-existent to me.
  13. Sphinx Firewall Control has a free version also.
  14. I am using it with Sphinx Windows 7 firewall control. No problems whatsoever.
  15. Microsoft Security Essentials Has anyone tried this? I am running it now. It seems geared toward the novice user IMO, however it appears to do a pretty darn good job. It doesn't hit on the FP that Avira and KAV did on here. It also picked up the two rar'd nasties I had for testing. Each were 3 or more layers deep in the rar file. All in all, codename Morro is rather impressive so far.
  16. That right there might be the post of the year so far. I could not agree more, not explain my thoughts personally, any better than the above quote.
  17. edit: not the exact software I thought it was. My mistake
  18. Thank you sir. I was waiting on that download to appear and forgot to check for it.
  19. Just use the RC from MS direct for now. I was hunting builds like they were food to live on.......until the RC came out.
