  3. I got a Hauppauge PVR150 running on Windows Server 2008 standard. First enable Desktop Experience then copy the following AX files from a Vista installation (windows/system32) to the system32 directory on W2K8. Cut and paste the commands in a batch file to register them. regsvr32 /s bdaplgin.ax regsvr32 /s kstvtune.ax regsvr32 /s ksxbar.ax regsvr32 /s Mpeg2Data.ax regsvr32 /s mpg2splt.ax regsvr32 /s MSDvbNP.ax regsvr32 /s MSNP.ax regsvr32 /s psisrndr.ax regsvr32 /s VBICodec.ax regsvr32 /s vbisurf.ax regsvr32 /s WSTPager.ax Thank you very much...will have to try. Only analogue TV works. No DVB-T and DVB-S, which are the standard in watching tv
  4. to be honest, server is not designed for use as a workstation. its just a bonus for us to have some vista goodiness eg, vista looks etc.. No company design their workstation device (components) drivers for server. as i mentioned its just a bonus for us to have almost all workstation components devices driver work on server except BDA theres many people out there trying to get BDA working. hopefully someday soon we will have BDA or never
  5. btw if you do get tv card working then please share your resource and how you got it working thanks
  6. You wrote: its microsoft. they do not have support for it yet, but support for what exactly, did you know? I think it may have something to do with directx 10, i will do some research with this, and give here info when have done researching of this problem. its not directx 10, its almost impossible to get tv cards working on server 08. they do not support BDA function on server check this link, http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/board/showthread.php?t=14850
  7. thanks for your info. its not your card drivers, its microsoft. they do not have support for it yet. i did try dscalers but does not work with my one (hauppague hrv 4000) hopefully ms will give us support it soon
  8. %programfiles%\windows sidebar\settings.ini and %userprofile%\appdata\local\microsoft\windows sidebar\settings.ini I quess... thanks

  10. i found this app "resource tuner" which support png direct modification of dll's. are there any limitations of this application compare to resource hacker? can i use resource tuner instead of resource hacker to modify icons?
  11. AveIcon link is down, do you have any alternative link? thanks
  12. hey ricks and tomorrow, thank you so much for this. now i can convert all my icons to "ico" format. thanks
  13. can someone please help me or show me how to convert png to ico, so i can use resource hacker to modify my icons in dll's or if there is a better shorter way to customize then please let me know. All i want to do is replace the icons in imageres.dll with high qaulity png icons that resource hacker does not support (png) thank you
  14. hi resource hacker can't seem to support "png" format. i have many icons in high quality png format that i want to use to replace the boring vista icons. is there a way with resource hacker to use png or a particular application? thank you
  15. hi does anybody knows where vista sidebar stores its settings. i customized my sidebar and would like to know where it holds my customization settings thank you
  16. good point, BUT even if you disable all the bells & whistles in vista, server is still faster, because microsoft took their time and putted more effort on server 2008 in terms of tuning and the way it handles applications and memory management. vista is bloated, microsoft rushed vista to the market. Yes its the same kernal (core) but server is highly tuned for performance stabilty and of course security. i have tested both, server 08 normal install and vista sp1 with vlite to remove almost all bloat components, but still sluggish performance when you install to many application compare to server.
  17. install desktop experience from "add features" in server 2008 already built in, it will give you all the fancy vista looks but with better performance compare to vista.
  18. yes. directx 10.1 is already in server 2008, and games run much faster on server with more fps compare to vista
  19. hi maybe media center is impossible on server 08 at this moment. but does anybody knows how get bda support on server 2008. i just need my tv tuner to work on server the way it does on vista, and then i can use a third party application to watch tv. thanks
  20. I would like to know this too, because I think it's a misinformation. In Server 2003, BDA (and/or similar components of DirectX needed for TV tuner) are also not present by default, but when you install the TV Tuner driver, it will "pull" ALL necessary components from driver.cab or directx.cab. Yeah, I would REALLY like someone to verify this (I don't have 2008, so it might have changed) or is it another myth. I've seen this 'information' (but not any proof) on many other places too. GL i can confirm this that bda is not supported on server 2008. i have 2 different tv tuner card ( one hauppauge and one technotrend), both with WHQL certified drivers that work on vista x86/x64, but not on server, even with directx 9 installed (march 2008). i even tried many third party tv applications, but they do not work. but am sure there is a work around this to get it work. just hoping someone will come with a solution to this. check this link http://forums.microsoft.com/TechNet/ShowPo...9&SiteID=17 and this one with a solution to get bda support, but still does not work http://www.msfn.org/board/Media-Center-on-....html&st=20 hope this help you guys
  21. has anybody worked around a way to get the bda support on server yet?
  22. i have been running server 2008 for 1 month now. it is is simply the best OS from microsoft since windows 95. dont know why it is so fast and responive knowing that it is the same core as vista. games run so fast loads fast, and application fly's like anything. you can have all the vista effects like looks and feel with desktop experience without any sluggish performance, unlike vista even with most components removed with vlite it still runs slow. server 2008 does not include and bloat application so vliting is no recommended as nuhi mentioned. it is highly tuned for security and performance. IMPORTANT: there is no BDA support, means tv tuner (capture) card will not work on server 2008, apart from that everything works and even the drivers for vista. hope this info helps you
  23. your patch works great. 1 question, what does this patch do to imageres.dll? because am planning to modify my icons (with stardock iconpackager) and then copy my customized imageres from system32 to a vista dvd by mounting the vista image.
