  1. Did someone tried to run Win98Se on new core i3/5/7? I got such machine at work - core 5 i760, 8G RAM, intel 34xx series chipset. I may bring my CD and when I'll have a free time some evenin I can try to install. Probably 1st thing I need to do is limit the RAM for install up to 512M... > seam nice to hear that you managed to run usb 2.0 on latest ICH... Did you just used nUSB or something special?
  2. Hi, is here anybody who ran SB Audigy 2 under old WNT4(SP6)? After some googling I was able to find 2 version of driver packs that containded Win9x/NT/2k drivers. It installed fine and after reboot the speaker icon appeared in systray and everything looks like it works but didn't I tried some apps to play sound but no success. I can play with mixer, changed soundcard outputs but all silent. In winamp output plugin/statistic I found that there was only not active message. Normally there's printed dynamic info about buffers, sample rate etc. So something was wrong. I tried both drivers but the same. I suspected may be IRQ conflict so I relocate my soundcard from PCI IRQ3 to 5 but still nothing. I also tried to make binary patch (change device id from 0002 to 0004) of EMU10K.SYS for previously used SB live but it didn't initialized during boot So I'd like to know if someone else had it working or the drivers are crap...
  3. Hi, I like to note next 2 programs I successfully run under KEX RC5: Avanti 0.4.9 GUI for FFMPEG encoder (compat XP-SP2) MKVMerge GUI 2.9.8 (compat XP-SP2)
  4. I tried new KEX RC5 and it still has notes drawing problem in Guitar Pro. But there's small progress that I can reboot windows normally after runing GP5 (before it hanged during shutdown). Other apps that I use works well as with RC4 (Mozilla 2.0.10, VirtualDub)
  5. I just tried KernelEx 4.5 RC4 and it seems that solved VirtualDub plugins loading problem (mentioned before), thnaks I also tried Guitar Pro 5 but have only partial succes. It starts, I can load tabs but there's some drawing problem because notes are missing. See the screenshot: http://rayer.ic.cz/350d/gp5.png It plays tab OK. There's also problem with closing the app. The window disappear but process gp5.exe is still hanged on and cannot be killed (neither standard task manager nor ATM) and when I attempt shutdown/restart Windows it cannot shutdown because this process is running. It display obligatory wait/terminate window but terminate has no effect. So I had to press multiple ctrl+alt+del to force restart... Hope that some future KernelEx version will run it better
  6. I solved the problem with Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX550 by installing the driver from original CD, hehe It seems that din't disturbed nUSB any way and all works together. But maybe someone wants to integrate DMC-FX550 support to nUSB directly, so here's is the original driver: http://windows98.ic.cz/#DMC-FX550
  7. Interesting. When I set compatability for virtualdub.exe it didn't die silently but display some error message that Virtualdub crashed and I can take error log and close it. But if you try to uninstall kernelex you will see that it start with all plugins. And this seems to me a bug - affect programs that doesn't have compatability set.
  8. And did you run my test package or from official site? There's no plugins in official download so it statr but with that plugins don't.
  9. I found a compatability problem with VirtualDUB, resp. with some its plugins that I use (e.g. FFVDUB.VDF, VDUBAUO.VDF, MP4InputDriver.vdplugin...) and Kernelex. Before I installed Kernelex it ran fine. Now VirtualDUB don't start (no error displayed, I see it only in task manager as a zombie process). I don't use global compatability I rather use individual. Enabling compatability for virtualdub.exe didn't help. When I uninstall Kernelex (ctlpanel/programs/remove) it started to work again. I also tried to downgrade to version 4.0 but the same. Even with old 0.3.6. If mentioned plugins are moved/renamed from plugins and plugins32 dir it starts. Here I made a small VirtualDUB 1.9.9 test package - please try someone else. I don't understand how Kernelex can affect other programs that don't have compatability set. Is there some similar issue with another program that sopped working after Kernelex installation?
  10. 1st I had to set WinXP SP2 compatability to installation package, then install and finally set compatability for seamonkey.exe. Then I converted my profile from Seamonkey 1.1.19. I didn't find any problems yet, browsing and emails seems to work. I don't print much often-not tested yet. GDI resources consumption seems to be same as with old Seamonkey.
  11. I played with KernelEx 4.5 yesterday and successfully installed Mozilla Seamonkey 2.0.4 and BOCHS PC emulator 2.4.5. Good work.
  12. Hi again, did someone tested nUSB with some new Panasonic Lumix camera? I just tested DMC-FX550 compact, it was detected and asked for driver so I click next and find the best, found USBSTOR.INF, next and got BSOD . I can go back to windows (not a hardcrash) but camera doesn't work. I resterted and tried again but got BSOD immediatelly when plug-in the camera. I had to delete usb entry from registry. Under XP it works fine as any other mass storage, except you cannot delete files but it seems to be common f*kin limitation of modern Panasonic cams... But I have card reader so I don't worry a lot.
  13. Can I just replace those 3 *.SYS driver files in my W98 by this newer? (I could use CZ version). This are original WinXP files or modified some way? Tihy wrote about Windows 2000 SP4 *.SYS files but nUSB 3.3 already use it, what's the point? I think that INF file needs extension for intel ICH9 and ICH10. EDIT1: I just installed USB20DRV.EXE over nUSB 3.3 but my EHCI stopped work: NTKERN.VXD failed to load driver code 2 I checked that SYS files was replaced OK. I tried redetect EHCI and point USB20DRV.INF but still the same. I found that USBPORT.SYS has missing import of some kernel funcs EDIT2: I tried USBPORT.SYS 5.00.2195.6941 and 5.00.2195.6926 from KBs suggested by Petr but then I got "Windows protection error" at boot in text mode and I had to revert older version 5.00.2195.5652
  14. Yes but other slots worked even without making smartcard dummy. So only advantega is that I don't see ! error mark Please could you look at INF of XP driver that I provided on link above if it would be possible to mod it for w98.
  15. USBSTOR_CBI - restart after install, ! error mark code 10 USBSTOR_CBI_U2A - installed without restart but device disappeared from device manager and when I have plugged reader in USB Pc hangs. Same after reboot. If I unplug it works normally USBSTOR_BULKNO - installed OK but it is dummy if I understand. So I think there's no otker way than XP drivers.
  16. I did, it installed OK, restart, detected cardreader, restart againg but then I got ! error marker in devmgr. So it seems the chipset is different and will not work with older driver...
  17. With USBSTOR_BULK it doesn't work at all. With USBSTOR_CB it asked for usbntmap and detect some generioc IEEE 1394 tape unit but throw a BSOD on me http://rayer.ic.cz/350d/usbstor_cb.jpg after reboot it doesnt't work too (code 10).
  18. Now I'm sure it is Smart Card reader. It's driver consist of 23.01.2009 11:09 245 760 RTSUCCID.DLL 23.01.2009 11:11 6 818 RTSUCCID.INF 23.01.2009 11:12 42 496 RTSUCCID.SYS 05.03.2009 09:10 8 249 RTSUCCID.CAT http://rayer.ic.cz/350d/smartcardrv.zip First I checked the SYS file with WDMCHECK and it doesn't contains any missing imports so no WDMSTUB.SYS needed. I tried to install it but it failed to install. I was trying to modify inf (first convert from unicode) according other infs for win98 and make it installed some way but it doesn't work. NTKERN couldnt load the RTSUCCID.SYS. But I don't understand INF files much and what is different in 2k/xp to w9x. Please could you modify the inf file for Win98?
  19. Hi, I bought new MSI USB 2.0 reader today http://www.alza.cz/msi-starreader-smart-d96477.htm and tester under Win98SE with nusb 3.3CZ. It was detected as composite device and then mass storage device with child sub-devices. I have left one unknown device in device manager. I guess it is SIM (SmartCard) reader because all other slots got it's drive letter and proper description in devmgr. Here's a registry entry for the unknown device: http://rayer.ic.cz/350d/usbunk.png I tried to modify USBSTOR.INF to add it: %Realtek.Mfg%=Realtek [Realtek] %USB\VID_0BDA&PID_0161&MI_00.DeviceDesc%=USBSTOR_BULK_AUTH,USB\VID_0BDA&PID_0161&MI_00 Realtek.Mfg="Realtek" USB\VID_0BDA&PID_0161&MI_00.DeviceDesc = "Realtek USB 2.0 Card Reader device" After redetecting the device it was recognized in INF and installed. It reqested restart. Then it moved into USB controllers group in device manager but still with error sign and reports that device is not present or not working properly or not all drivers installed (Code 10) Any idea how to make it working? I can upload or link Realtek drivers for W2k/XP/Vista
  20. Yeah, it works! You pointed me right way! Many thanks. I added wdmstub.sys to INF [uSBSTOR.AddReg] HKR,,DevLoader,,*NTKERN HKR,,NTMPDriver,,"WDMSTUB.SYS,USBSTOR.SYS" And redetect the USB device (no restart needed) and it works now. So it seems to be a bug in 3.3 cz I have installed some older versions before so wdmstub might be registered from old times and for some reason it was lost from registry.
  21. I use nUSB 3.3 Czech version which seems was modified to use w2k usbser. Package 3.3 CZ contains: USBSTOR.SYS 5.0.2195.6655 (eng) WDMSTUB.SYS 5.0.0.6 and 3.3a CZ contains: USBSTOR.SYS 4.90.3000.0 (eng) WDMSTUB.SYS 5.0.0.6 So 3.3a cz should equal to your oficial 3.3 eng. WDMSTUB.SYS is also installed in my windows drivers directory so it's not the problem. But the USBSTOR.INF doesn't have register entry for WDMSTUB.SYS is it necessary? I'll try to fix the inf.
  22. Hi, I was using happilly nUSB 3.3 more than year on my new system (P31+ICH7) and it worked fine. But yesterday I found that it suddenly failed. I cannot use any of my USB devices that worked before. I got this error in device manager: http://rayer.ic.cz/350d/usb.png I mess near all night with it, I cleaned enum entries, reinstalled nUSB 3.3 but nothing helps. Under WinXP and Linux all devices on all ports works fine. As a last resort I tried downgrade to nUSB 3.3a (with USBSTOR.SYS from WinME) and it works. But I got much worse performance now, only about 10MB/s instead ~25MB/s of my HDD box (but luckily it seems USB 2.0 is working). I cannot find explanation what happen. I didn't add any new USB device. The only thing I did with hardware was that I tried borrowed GeForce 8800GTS few days ago. But It didn't worked so I put back my 7900GT. After this experiment I delleted my win98 directory and restore from backup some weeks old. That time in past I had nUSB 3.3 working now it fails. I found it is only sensitive to USBSTOR.SYS file. When I replace it with older WinME version it works when replace Win2k version it didn't I can toggle it many times. I also tried clear CMOS, clear DMI/ESCD, flash older BIOS but nothing helps to run nUSB 3.3 now. Any idea? Why is ntkern.vxd failing?
  23. Hi, I was just testing a borrowed GF 8800GTS/640MB/PCIE and I didn't managed it to work in any way. As cooksy reported it installed properly with 82.69 drivers but after restart I got mentioned "Windows protection error - Restart your system" error. But in my case it apeared everytime on boot. I could boot in safemode only. After some further messing I gave up. Cooksy and schwups reported that he even tried a 256MB 8600 card and also didn't work. So now I'm pretty sure that 82.69 drivers simply don't support G80 core and newer. It's not enough to put device ID into INF files but would require upgrading binary. As Win2k/XP drivers are very different kind it is not possible (maybe if someone make something like kernelex for drivers tongue.gif) So I'm keeping my 7900GT and if I will see some cheap 7950GX2 I'll upgrade...
  24. Thank you dude. I tested it under Win98SE in Mozilla SeaMonkey 1.1.17, no Kernelex needed for it. I had previously installed Flash v9 so I rather replaced the DLL in directory \WINDOWS\SYSTEM\MACROMED\FLASH\ and now I can play new videos that didn't worked before. I wouldn't think that it would be so easy to trick it by altering version
