  1. 1.) can U see reg in %windir%\system32? 2.) Do U have value %windir%\system32 in variable PATH?
  2. Hmmm, AFAIK all core windows programs (where is the need for stability and robustness) were write in C#
  3. Agree, 1.) delete all offline files... 2.) run from cmd netsh winsock reset 3.) IE6 is based on WI, so U can call repair to check all keypath objects... Did this help?
  4. Total Commander Acrobat Reader Microsoft Reader
  5. Or U can use utility from Resource Kit (U provide name of file and size)
  6. Hmmm, ASAIR the WUS will provide new WUS client to all computers... I am using registry settings for wus, too - imported .adm template and set the registry by this template...
  7. Yep, I am using the some method in my update batch script - it is comparing date of file on server and local machine...
  8. Immunization is based on adding "killbit" to virtual ActiveX - if any antispyware SW is setting this, it is in fact creating virtual activex object.... BTW MSAS dont detect this kind of immunization - I am using my corporate killbit settings and never got problems with MSAS... R U sure it wasnt problem of spybot instead of MSAS (e.g. setting more than only killbit)? For me the biggest problem of MSAS is lack of corporate monitoring/updating/configuration... Hope so they will soon change it
  9. What about using scheduled tasks and any smtp client or script?
  10. I agree, question of popularity have almost same impact as question of security That is why I think FireFox wont get better by the time
  11. What do U mean bad? If U want to manually approve, you could rename files to ok-* and therefore check for "ok-" string... Sorry, probably I didnt understand question
  12. Dont think so... I think they will find absolutely new name (because it is next line, e.g. 9x -> NT -> LH)
  13. And pls dont forget UNC support... I will be doing one presentation for Microsoft, where I want to show IT professionals deployment can work in SME sector without problems and I would like to present WAIT (if it will be in stable state)
  14. Dont agree... Spybot and Adware were quite good, but they cant be compared with MSAS... I was making report for my company (half or one year ago) and I recommended Giant AntiSpyware (now MSAS) 1.) concept of ActiveAgents is much better then usuall realtime protection and much better then SpywareGuard (because of problems with laws) 2.) concept of SpyNet is GREAT idea and even now U can see results. It is quite similar to bayesian method in filtering spam. About false positives - NEVER meet any one. I had few problems that MSAS thought that srvany or srvinst from resource kit were malware programs, but I must say that they R often used to this kind of actions... What do U mean under problems? Also quite interesting (but without future ) are products from InterMute
  15. 2Jeremy: As far as I know U cant remove every trace of IE, because of rendering engine... Only way is imho creating windows xp embedded image There was no flames yet I am just big fan of IE/Maxthon and I wanted to discuss this theme without meeting post like "Firefox is best, IE sucks!" and similar Well, security in IE wasnt strong enough, which was significantly changed by XP SP2...
  16. Half full Evening or morning?
  17. http://helpnet.installshield.com/robo/proj...pCmdLineMSI.htm - just refresh installation...
  18. Finally I found it http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=39458&hl=
  19. Download IEAK (Internet Explorer Administration Kit) from Microsoft, it is special tool for this purposes....
  20. Nope, U can make it easier by using this: wmic baseboard get manufacturer, product /value
  21. Ok... 1st thing for this thread - NO FLAMES, ONLY DISCUSSION Now we can begin talking about browsers, I am quite interested in your opinions. As administrator for big company I must really appreciate the architecture of Windows based on objects. It is quite unstable and unsecured, but it is best step to future and I hope so we will see the better results in longhorn. Why? .NET, Monad etc... About security - AFAIK IE7 will be based on .NET and activex and object will run in something similar to XP SP2 LockDown Zones. That sounds great. My personal favourite browser is IE+Maxthon, secured using Windows XP SAFER architecture - dont see any reason why to change or why should mozilla/opera/firefox be better. BTW about security - do you really think firefox is more secure? One thing I received this morning (from Shavlik, which is really important player on patch and security ground) - many corporate stations with FireFox were attacked by some malicious code during last threee days. I am not sure, if it is hoax The file C:\Documents and Settings\user name\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\8oyc8wso.default\Cache\4648EE12d014648EE12 D01 is infected with the RemAdm-ProcLaunch Remote Admin Tool.
