hi friends... My WUS server can´t syncronize the updates from Microsoft anymore, I didn´t change anything in the settings but suddenly it isn´t working. It says that there were an error communicating with the upstream server (http error 404). Sounds like can´t locate the page or something, but the conection isn´t the problem. Maybe something has changed in microsoft, as the url that the WUS servers goes to have the updates. Does anybody can help me? I´d be grateful! Tiago

Well, finally something happened. We´ve reinstalled the server on the port 8530 and the XP clients came to our WUS manager screen. But things aren´t good enough, we´ve configured 6 (six) XP clients pointing the WUS server but I don´t know why only appears 4 (four) of them in WUS manager in the same time. They´re kind of alternating themselves into the WUS. All the six clients are working properly but there are only 4 clients in the WUS manager, got it? That´s too weird cause there isn´t a logic reason to behave like that, I hope you guys can give some answear. Thanx you all

This is my WindowsUpdate.log file in my client attached. Please somebody tell me if it worked out. If yes, why anything happens? My server hasn´t any computer client in the WUS Manager yet. Take a look guys, I really need to make it work. logClient.txt

I´m in troubles with my Windows 2000 Server. The logs in the Event Viewer is the following: "services [252] Unable to write a shadowed header for file C:\WINNT\security\templates\spsecupd.sdb" "services [252] Database recovery/restore failed with unspected error 1811" My Hard Drive is E: and not C:, maybe this is the problem but I don´t know how to solve that. How could I change this reference? I apreciate any helping hand... Thanx

Hey we´re sharing the same problem. I´ve tryed everything at the clients but nothing happens in my WUS Server, I can just see the IP of my clients on the IIS Log Files in the WUS what means that they´re reaching my server, although that´s all. No reports of updating errors or sucess in my clients or server. Losing hope... Please, anybody... a helping hand is needed. Thanx

Something happened... Guys I took a look into my IIS Log Files then I saw that my client has tried to connect to my server. However, nothing happens in my WUS Manager, any client error or something. Compuboy I really apreciate your help, I think that´s really the way to make it works. i did everything you said but nothing happened. I hadn´t any event log on clients or server... I´ve executed the follow command "wuauclt.exe /detectnow" as is described in a WUS Microsoft white paper and nothing happened too. In the task manager there is wuauclt.exe process running but I don´t know what it means. However, now I´m more hopeful... looking forward for new helping hands. Thanx

Yeah brother, 1500 computers (clients) all over the MAN... WUS would be a very interesting solution for us, unfortunatelly I can´t see a light to make it works. I apreciate any information in order to solve this problem. Thanks people

Import from where? I´ve found wuau.adm in the clients but I don´t know what am I supposed to do with this file... I don´t know how it works... that´s it, I´m lost!

Yes... Active Directory seems to be the best solution, although my environment isn´t an Active Directory one, and I can´t make it now cause I have 1500 points in my network, that´s why I´m in troubles. Whatever, I thank you for trying to help me. I still believe I´ll make this work! If somebody help me of course.. Best Wishes

I´ve just done as you say but nothing happens. Running the command wuauclt.exe /detectnow nothing happens too. I´m about to lose my hope or driving myself crazy... Thank you guys for the hand, if you know anything about just tell me.

Hi people, I´m in troubles with my WUS environment. That´s the following: I just can´t setup the clients in my network (non-active directory), I tryed to set the configurations through the registry as well as I´ve read in the "Deploying Microsoft Windows Update Services" white paper. I have clients running Windows XP SP1 and SP2 but I can´t find the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINES\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate\AU. In all clients I can just find HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINES\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows ,as you see \WindowsUpdate is missing. What´s supposed to be happening? How can I set the Automatic Updates in those clients pointing to my WUS Server? I´d be glad if somebody help me... Thanks
