  1. There once was a tool for Win95 that made it possible to have gradient titlebars in Windows95. Basically it just replaced a file from Win95 with a newer one from a Win98 Beta Version to accomplish this. Does anyone know where to download this program?
  2. Yes.It makes no sense. IE5.5.is outdated and 98/ME/NT4 are able to run IE6.
  3. There is no way. The explorer toolbar has been completely removed from Vista. The only buttons that remain are the back and forward button.
  4. How to do that? Does it involve creating desktop ini files? I've found an example in a ms website where in one of the screenies it's showed the webview, but they don't say how to enable it. Yes, a desktop.ini file is required in every folder that should be shown using Webview. That's also one of the main disadvantages about Webview in XP, because it also means that you cannot apply webview to places like My Computer, Control Panel, Network Neighborhood etc. since it is not possible to copy desktop.inis into these folders. The second disadvantage is that the old webview (from Win98, Win2000) doesn't work properly due to some legal issue about Active-X Controls (Webview has something to do with Active-X) That means that webview doesn't work properly if you installed updates newer than SP2 (so all updates that came after SP2 was released).
  5. It's actually just for fun. I never really liked the new icons, bitmaps and the whole XP look (I liked the stability, though) so I tried to make it look more like Win98 (but with the advantages of WinXP, of course). And this Win98-like shellstyle just looks better than the WinXP standard shellstyle in Classic view. Well it certainly is integrated in explorer (where else? ) but you're right, it has absolutely nothing to do with the webview you found in Win9x and Win2000.So all the additional functions like integrated media players and all this stuff cannot be used in my "webview" since it only is a modified XP-shellstyle.dll There IS a way to use webview (the real one) in XP but it's not so easy.
  6. You can download it here: http://members.kabsi.at/LIGHTYEAR/shellstyle.dll But in order to replace this shellstyle.dll with the original one from XP you'll need a program like Replacer. Replacer automatically replaces the file (program should be self-explanatory) and creates a backup file (called shellstyle.backup). http://www3.telus.net/_/replacer/ So if you want the original shellstyle look back you should copy the backup file to another folder, rename it to shellstyle.dll and then replace it with the Win98style-shellstyle.dll. P.S. The file goes into X:\Windows\system32
  7. I think the main problem is that you have Win98 FE so there isn't much hope since it is a known fact that Win98FE can't handle USB devices well. What kind of computer do you have? Did you install the latest chipset drivers for your computer (in order to get USB devices running properly these drivers are important - even though there are standard drivers which are installed with Win98)? Do you have built-in USB or a USB PCI card.
  8. To me it looks like the normal Webview with a changed wvleft.bmp But although it's nothing really special it looks cool.
  9. I just created a Win98-like shellstyle for WinXP.
  10. It's surely not necessary but it looks more vista-ish and it looks more integrated than two separate panes.
  11. Oops, I forgot I'm in the Win98 forum.
  12. You could try Object Bar: http://www.stardock.com/products/objectbar/ It already comes with a XP-like start menu. I don't know if it works but if it does you should get what you wanted.

  14. That would be great and I'm actually quite sure that this is possible but I just don't know how.My webview is based on a htt file I once found but unfortunately there are no details, no picture preview etc. displayed. I also tried to modify an orignal folder.htt (from Win98) to make it look like Vista but I didn't get far. Yes, you avoided the problem by putting the links section on top of the window but it doesn't look like Vista anymore (it still looks good, though).
  15. Is this my (modified) Webview? I know the problem but I don't know a solution.
  16. 1: Make a copy of the file folder.htt (That's the original webview you get to see in almost every folder), you can find it in Windows/Web 2. Extract all these files to Windows/Web http://members.kabsi.at/LIGHTYEAR/Webansic...0Vista-Look.zip (3. You can delete ac.exe and forget about the german "Lies Mich" Text, it's only needed for WinXP) If you don't want this Vista-look Webview anymore just delete the folder.htt and rename the old one (that you made a copy of before) back to the original name (folder.htt).
  17. So that means it doesn't work with Vista RC2 either, right? Is there maybe an older version of Vlite that can handle RC2? Edit: I found version 0.7 now and I'm going to try this one. Edit2: Vlite 0.7 doesn't work either - crashes while applying settings....
  18. Same problem here... http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?showtopic=91068
  19. I'm afraid I don't really know what you're talking about....
