  1. I mailed FDV the other day with an updated HFCLEANUP that fixes the issues that Squeeto talks about. For some reason it's not posted yet. Don't run the posted cleanups unless you see filedates circa Mar 11 in that zip file. murvun - Test it out and report back. Just read the instruction readme file and don't remove anything you're not supposed to. And before you ask, this is still an unsupported feature of hfslip. If you run into problems, report back the solution to the issue. There are too many variables for each user and it would drive me crazy to figure out problems for everyone. For example, to fix squeeto's concern took about 50 installs to isolate the bad reducer. I only fixed this issue because it affected me as well. For me, all is fine and I don't plan on altering it... and I'll gladly give full control to Oleg2 once he gets back... if we only knew where he is now.
  2. EmRoD - Are you sure you have the latest WGA cab file? There is more than one way to skin a cat with dll files. With this particular case, an option is to remove the legit cab and place the legitcheckcontrol.dll in the HFEXPERT\CODECS folder. Don't complain if you get missing files if *not* installing via CD.
  3. The cab file posted by murvun is an exe that creates something display an icon in control panel. dziubek is having this prob... "c. I removed the ending "x" from the name of *.cpi files, but failure of registration of chosen files: *cpl it exists again." Isn't a CPL file just a CPL file and it only gets displayed in the control panel? I never seen the need for a CPL file get registered. As a "for example" I have a directx9 CPL file in my 2k hfexpert\win\system32 folder. It gets copied over to system32, and after installation if I double click the directx9 CPL file, the directx9 properties appear. I don't register it. I think I'm missing something with this issue. [sorry if I'm hijacking this thread]
  4. I have seen a few times lately that CPL files aren't registering. In my dealings with CPL files, if you place one in the sys32 folder, you see a control panel icon in the control panel. There wasn't any commands or anything to register it, it was just there. Am I missing something? Is there some sort of new CPL file looming out there? An alternate way to see if the wga is slipstreamed is to open up regedit and search for LegitCheckControl.dll. Once you register this dll, it writes itself all over the registry.

    HFSLIP Newbie

Welcome to the board. I think tomcat76 is being modest in not referring you to his signature & his 2k hotfixes page. I highly recommend using it. Hey, isn't tomorrow hotfix day? Is the new IE hotfix going to crash IE?
  6. You need to have the full path to the reg.exe file specified. A simple REG [command] won't work with w2k.
  7. I never made a multiboot cd, but I have some stupid questions. Have you tried the multiboot option on a non-hfslipped 2k? On the flip side, when you run hfslip, did you type in the proper path when prompted?
  8. The error_report is used by the authors to see what the user is doing. The script can be changed to say slipstreamed if it makes you feel better. It won't affect the functionality of your sourcess folder.
  9. Can both of you post your error_report.txt files? Also, are you sure that your switchless installers don't inject english into OS? Have you tested hfslip+localized updates+fdv's fileset without anything in your svcpck's folder?
  10. Camarade_Tux - It is best to run hfslip of your source first, and then nlite the sourcess folder. There are some files to keep when doing this. The files to keep list is on FDV's site.
  11. How is this codec slipstreaming? The title of this thread is "Why do a large codec installer when you can HFSLIP it?"
  12. Have you seen the information on HFCLEANUP? It may be a start for you. However, it's a bit buggy for dialup.
  13. I'm working this one squeeto. It's painful to find the solution.
  14. Umm, sometimes it helps to read instructions. It's clearly obvious that you don't like step 3. http://www.vorck.com/2ksp5.html
  15. Boy a few hours and there is two pages of this. If you want IE6 slipstreamed, you also need the 2k rollup.
  16. This is the first I heard of this one. I always thought IE6 came with 128 bit encription. Can you post your error_report? Oh, that link you provided is for an IE with less than version 6SP1.
  17. Bugs, this is the coolest thing I have seen in a while. Thanks for sharing your work!
  18. Whew. Glad this little plugin works. Kudos to januh for sending me his sample fileset so I could troubleshoot.
  19. Use HFSLIP to sliptream it instead.
  20. By unsupported I mean that if there are problems, then you have to isolate which doesn't work. Reporting back issues and how you solved them are welcomed. Maintaining such a fileset is a monumental effort, and it's one that I cannot devote lots of time to. However, the fileset works fine for me and my applications. Now, if you are running other software, you *could* run into probs. A few months back, Oleg2 wanted to lead this effort. Having not heard from him in a while, I figured it was time for me to cleanup the reducers and fix various things. So yesterday it was time to unleash some new & improved reducers. I'll be more than happy to incporporate any user submitted changes and whatnot until Oleg2 comes back.
  21. cough cough cough read about HFCLEANUP on FDV's site cough cough cough. I hate getting sick. It was probably from the elk roadkill chili.
  22. The file was sent to FDV. Please give him time to put it on his site. It should have a creation date of Mar6. Remember, these reducers are unsupported. You have to figure out what you like and want.
  23. http://www.vorck.com/2ksp5.html step 15.
  24. I've been working on integrating Oleg2's file reducers with my own. I'll have to send it over to FDV for hosting. Oleg's file reducers reduced a bit too much, rendering some codec slipstreaming NG. The new fileset fixes this issue. If you search FDVs site, you'll find the reducers. It's sort of nestled, but that is by design. You can render applications bad if you reduce too much.
  25. Unlike XP, W2K needs to have the full path for your commands. So a simple regedit.exe /s blah.reg won't work. Instead, you need a %windir%\regedit.exe /s blah.reg.
