    key not valid

All known good keys? How many do you have? Have you tested the source directory in a VM? I have seen on numerous occasions that files do not copy correctly from the CD player. Can you please post up your hfslip.log file so we can take a look?
  2. If you want to overwrite things in the slipstreamed source use the FIX folder. Throw your modified hives and modified dlls in the FIX, run HFSLIP and you'll be OK.
  3. Kiki, Typically if a file has a _ at the end, it's a compressed file. The only files that you really look at with a text editor are inf's and sif's. As far as replacing system protected files and other files, you're best bet would be to familiarize yourself with this. If you are only slipstreaming the hotfixes listed on Tomcat76's hotfix webpage, you do not need to alter any files (like sfc_os.dl_). However, if you want to add in the tweaks such as xpize or certain AAO's, then you are more than likely going to need a modified sfc_os.dl_. FYI, xpize modifed a boatload of dlls.
  4. Don't you need IE6 for WMP9?
  5. Is there a commandline switch for X2K to slipstream these mods to a 2k source? If so, I'd like to incorporate it into HFSLIP.
  6. Other than a boot screen difference, how is X2K different than this?
  7. Camarade_Tux - If you are running NLITE on an HFSLIP'd source, make sure you select the driver merge option (A, B or C) in HFSLIP. This will reduce your filecount and i386 folder size when running NLITE.
  8. Have you manually swapped them yet in a VM?
  9. @dziubek - What you are seeing is some LFN in your svcpack directory. It either got there from your HFSVCPACK directory or a non-compliant ryanvm addon. If you are running installation via CD, there is NO NEED to worry about this error message. The only way you will get errors is if you are running a dos prompt install (e.g. winnt.exe). @kiki - Do you get the same folder problem if you are not using application add-ons?
  10. Once you put the boot.bin in the hftools directory, type in MAKEISO instead of "I have read...." as a shortcut to make your iso. Cheers!

    W2k vs Xp

Cough cough cough knoppmyth cough cough cough.
  12. That's a loaded question. So if I wanted wordpad or some other odd or end, then functionality is lost. However, I use this setup as the base for real applications. All works fine and no functionality is gone. I'll check out to see if it's possible to remove lsass.exe. Edit - Looks like lsass.exe is needed pretty early in the setup process.
  13. I tried minlogon with xp and wasn't that impressed with speeds. When properly reduced, windows does fine on its own. Here's what you can expect with different flavors of 2k. These were don't without using Nlite. Link1 and link2.

    FDV/HFCLEANUP + IE

Tain - Sounds like you should not be so aggressive with your reductions. Remove the files prefixed with the Z's for starters. Remember, those reducers get rid of tons of additional stuff. I found a few apps that don't work, like some disk partitioning software that is on the disk manufacturer's websites. What's the program that was giving troubles?
  15. Inf, cpl and sys files. No cat's required. Oleg_2's tutorial works great I must add. I use it all the time in my installs.
  16. No cat files are needed.

    FDV/HFCLEANUP + IE

The standalone installer won't work. I think you'll need to delete/modify a regkey to be able to install ie6. I'm not sure which offhand, but google around and I'm sure you'll find out which one. I'm guessing it's the HKLM\Software\Internet Explorer area, but I could be wrong.
  18. TC, If you're thinking of doing this, be careful with duplicate file names, files with spaces, non-8.3 filenames, 4 character extension filenames. It's far easier using the oem folder IMHO.
  19. FWIW, I tried removing explorer.exe from 2k and all my context menus were gone when using a different file manager.
  20. If you didn't have any OEM folders, it's not possible to copy files/folders to other than Windows or Winnt (or whatever you have it specified as) at the text mode level. One way I see how to do it would be to create a sfx file that puts the files in the right place. Creating an SFX file of your stuff is out of scope for HFSLIP. Why not just create an OEM structure yourself and put the correct switches in your winnt.sif file? That is all that they are showing on that link you provided.
  21. Be care if you decide to HFSLIP the files, if you plan on 7zip them instead. I'm not sure if the windows setup routines understand a 7zip file. You know, there are compression settings for the makecab function. It probably won't get to be as small as 7zip though.
  22. Another option is to create an INF and throw it into the hfsvcpack folder too.
  23. FWIW, the mdac_typ adds files to the Program Files folder. To take care of the file copying, you would need a special INF file to copy them over, while at the same time you need modify the layout.inf file, which is a protected file. My advice is to svcpack it and call it a day.
  24. Oops. Yea, I meant the_guy. Sorry about that. It was either a senior moment or lack of coffee.
  25. Kramy, Find the largest city close to you. I chose NYC, even though it's about 10 miles from me.
