Ok, how long have you had this error. See to help you understand XP its like being sick. You have to track your steps back to when XP was working. Thats the key to figuring out anything. So did you alwasy have this promblem or did it just start. As far as the user loading, that profile has been corrupted. -XPerties

WOW...You have promblems all over the place. and you screwed yourself by messin with roxio stuff. I dont care what anyone says...It still sucks and still doesnt work right with XP no matter what you disable or dont install. Best thing is to try a restore to the eraliest point if you never had these promblems. Besisdes that I would reinstall after a format. You have promblems in your device manager also by renameing your shared folders you made XP confused. That my only advice to try. Sorry, maybe someone else might have another idea for all those promblems. -XPerties

The file system is in NTFS then you need to find out who made your hard drive and get the install disk for the drive. Its a real pain to format a NTFS disk and get it back to fat and ready for 98. AOL DSL havent a clue. Dont know what software they give you and havent heard of any promblems. Now you sound control icon....Did you install any software for your sound card? What type of soundcard so you have? -XPerties

Its not that XP is a piece of s***. Its you have to babysit it. Roxio apps are like russian rolet. It might work, It might not. Alot of people still have promblem with there s*** software. I for one hate that dam company, due to it f***ing my PC up everytime they come out with a new update. direct cd is already installed in XP by default. Thats the cd burning software XP uses. I would recommend doing a search on the board and see if you might find a sulotion for it. Its located on the main page top right. Other than that format and throw roxio s*** away and use nero for the next year or so till roxio gets the s*** together. Or go back to me if needed. -XPerties

Ok after I typed all that crap up I reread your title. So you want a dual system, first off you can not install 98 after you have install XP. Well you can but it is extremely a pain in the a**. You need to do what I said above first. Format...then once 98 is up and running, just stick XP disk in and choose full instalation instead of upgrade. XP will partition and install a dual boot system having both 98 and XP on your pc. -XPerties

What you will have to do is boot up with your 98 startup disk. PC will give you 3 options ....Pick load with cd-rom support. Once your done youll see the following: a: then type cd c: (then youll see the following) c: then just type in format c: and your format will start on your c drive where xp is. Once your done with the format it will ask you to enter volume. Just type 0 and it will bring you back to a c: prompt. Put your 98 cd in the drive (98 disk must be full version and not the upgrade so make sure before starting any of this) now find your cd-rom drive which depending on how many drive letter you have. Normally on a basic computer the cd-rom is d or f. E when formating becomes your ram drive so dont worrie about that. anyways to switch to other drves type in [b:d0b690191b]cd d:, cd e:, cd f:[/b:d0b690191b], to test and see if you have the right drive access to your 98 disk everytime you change a directory (cd) just type in dir (directory) this will scan that drive and see whats on it. When you have gottan to the cd-rom and it shows its the 98 windows just type in setup. and your off. I hope this wasnt to confussing, if you need more help let me know -XPerties

XP has direct cd already installed in it if you didnt know. Theres add on to help burn ISO using XP. Its posted on the board. As far a feeware....hehe...no dont know *cough cough* any freeware. But I know that theres people out there who have feeware copies of CD Creator and Nero. Nero works great with XP BTW. -XPerties

yah I believe its take back (or maybe go back) and I know Direct cd is also in XP and roxio software and that caused promblems to. Those 2 things arent compatible. [b:ba757733b6]Nozhayr[/b:ba757733b6] - Im not sure about the demo, but even the Platnuim version 5.0 needs 3 added updates. It works great now but not knowing whats included with the trial its hard to say. Now just to keep in mind roxio is a bunch of morons so it wouldnt surprise me if those updates wernt aprt of the trial. When XP first came out Roxio said it was compatible, boy were they wrong. -XPerties
