  1. Thank you @AstroSkipper for your attention to updating this important extension. While I have not fully tested your new modified uBlock Origin extension (it may also be a good idea to provide a version marker of some kind between your uBlock0_1.16.4.31b2-1.54.0 releases to best avoid confusion as to which release or re-release is which), I have installed it and I especially like the addition of the Shortcuts capability. I would recommend also including compatibility in the install.rdf file for BNavigator (which @roytam1 frequently releases). The (SeaMonkey-based) BNavigator application has the following application ID: {a3210b97-8e8a-4737-9aa0-aa0e607640b9} For convenience, I have uploaded my modified version of your uBlock0_1.16.4.31b2-1.54.0 release (most recent at the time of this writing) to the MediaFire file sharing host, with the only mods being to the install.rdf file and are: (1) BNavigator compatibility has been added (using the version range of 0.1 to 100.*) and (2) the Pale Moon compatibility maximum version has been increased to 32.* (to test it myself in the future should the opportunity present itself). (On a related note, I have also already tested the extension to not work on Pale Moon 26.5.0, install.rdf limits notwithstanding). The MediaFire share link is: https://www.mediafire.com/file/74p444jwl861een/uBlock0_1.16.4.31b2-1.54.0.special-mod-by-%40AstroSkipper__plus_myChanges.xpi/file I have also attached a copy of the modified install.rdf file. install.rdf
  2. Hello @NotHereToPlayGames. Are your "360Chrome v13.5.2044 rebuild 2" releases performance optimized like it was for your 360Chrome v13.5.1030 rebuild 7 releases? I am still using your ungoogled 360Chrome v13.5.1030 rebuild 7 release and found it very superior in performance to your previous releases. I mainly use Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3.
  3. Hello @roytam1, I wish to report some troubles using your MaiNews software. When using your MailNews software from the "mailnews.win32-20231021-d0fd16ed-uxp-dd9eca1b39-xpmod.7z" package, application performance becomes very unstable and very unresponsive. System performance otherwise does decrease by not as much. I reverted back to the "mailnews.win32-20230819-d0fd16ed-uxp-864fc133a3-xpmod.7z" build and performance is good again. A second issue I noticed when trying the last few builds of MailNews, is that loading the mail messages is noticeably slower than older versions like from the "mailnews.win32-20230819-d0fd16ed-uxp-864fc133a3-xpmod.7z" build. All my MailNews loaded accounts are of IMAP type and using Gmail. I would also like to report a third problem with the MailNews application that has been present for a long time: The "Attachments" Preferences tab does not fully display the chrome://messenger/content/preferences/applications.xul contents; the top part of the content is cut off and "Incoming" and "Outgoing" tabs are hidden. To toggle the tabs despite lack of being able to click them (amongst other valid methods), in the Content Type list, select the Action of the last list item (you might need to click multiple times for the selection to happen), then type Ctrl+Tab. Thank you for the MailNews application and your development generally. It has been rather useful. So far my favorite Web Browser that you provide is the bNavigator application. There has been the issue, however, where the browser would become laggy after visiting select websites. Upon closing the troublesome websites, but keeping the browser application instance, the performance troubles would continue until closing the browser instance and opening it again. I use Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3.
  4. @roytam1 - Please note some issues that I am having with the current (and perhaps previous releases) of MailNews: (1) Some attachments file types are being misidentified when an email is edited in some way (Editing saved draft, Forwarding composition, etc.). I have attached copies of two files that may be attached to an email to illustrate the point (attach the files to an email, save the email message, then attempt to edit or forward the message). (2) When trying to edit a saved email with an attachment that had a file size of zero when it was saved, the attachment is not preserved into the saved copy. I am using Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3 and MailNews from package "mailnews.win32-20230708-ef491d91-uxp-9f1550fb5-xpmod.7z". 5. To be clear, what you have called "Win2k-basic-gray" is the base window styling of an inactive window. When the window is active the title bar appears as a blue gradient by default. The appearance of these Title Bar stylings are not unique to Windows 2000. Since, I believe, an edition Windows 98, Microsoft started using Title Bars with a blue gradient styling by default. The exact default gradients, as seen in Windows 2000 family operating systems, and I believe also Windows Millennium Edition, became used and thereafter used. As of Windows XP RTM, the operating system provided for its own skinning of windows (the skins are known as Visual Styles) as part of the Themes system service. As of Windows 8, disabling the system skinning is still possible, but not normally (disabling the Themes service no longer would work) and it appears that the operating system was adjusted so that it does not normally happen; a user wanting to disable or opt not to use the visual styling would have to do quite a bit of much more complex work to achieve it (I do not recall exactly what). I have set my system (Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3) Display Properties to use "Windows Classic style" for "Windows and buttons" (see attached picture for reference). I see the Windows Classic style gray (with gradient) title bar whenever a window that is not set as active displays and so long as the there is no styling being provided by another source (such as by a software program). There can be only one window with a designation of active, so all other un-skinned (by the operating system) windows would have the gray title bar. I work with many windows and I see very many gray Title Bars while doing so. In the case of 360Chrome, I only encounter the regular, unskinned, title bar (gray (inactive) or blue (active)) when the application crashes, and usually when I interact with something in a window or elsewhere (for which case I think the operating system interacts with the Title Bars of the all open windows). Presumably, the display of the true window Title Bars happens because the skinning program or program that displays a non-standard, customized window (as is the case with 360Chrome) fails to maiming its skin functions or painting and then the title bar part of the window is otherwise interacted with by other process (such as the operating system; the rest of the window may still display as it was last painted prior to the crash). I am not sure where the "above" and "below" are referenced/quoted from and cannot provide a good answer to the question. Yes. For both active and inactive Title Bars, the default height is 18 pixels. The default windows border (shown when the window floats and is not maximized or minimized) size is 3 pixels, a white pixel between two gray pixels. The window boarder is rather interesting. When the boarder is set in the Advanced Appearance dialog box (both Inactive Window Boarder and Active Window Boarder both change together), the resulting boarder is the given amount plus some. When the boarder is left at the default size of 1, the resulting boarder is 3 pixels, one while pixel between two gray pixels. When the boarder size is set to 9, the resulting boarder size is 12 pixels, 10 gray pixels, extending from what is otherwise the window, followed by a white pixel, and then a gray pixel. I have not decreased or otherwise changed my Title Bar heights. Windows_Classic_Style_TIF.tif Display_Properties_Advanced_Appearance_TIF.tif
  6. @NotHereToPlayGames - I would also note that I have tested @Humming Owl builds of 360Chrome (Thread: https://msfn.org/board/topic/182876-360-extreme-explorer-modified-version/ ; Download: https://archive.org/download/360EE_Modified_Version ) and find that, clicking the "Show bookmark menu" icon many times while there are zero bookmarks, does not result in a crash of his 360Chrome browser distributions. I do not know if the Humming Owl builds include 360 sync login.
  7. Not really. It is easy to forgot about the issue or forget how many times the clicking has happened and click three times. Also, not everyone that may use these distributions are necessarily aware of the issue, and it is not reasonable for such people to know to avoid clicking the "Show bookmark menu" icon thrice. The browser also does not have a menu bar. Getting things to happen require interacting with icons or bars like the address bar (menus the appear when interacting with such things) or using keyboard shortcuts. The "Show bookmark menu" icon provides various utility such as showing the Bookmarks bar or Bookmark Manager. What you call the "Win2k-basic-gray" is the normal, window title bar without any visual styling. Visual styling such as the Luna blue styling appears to style over the normal windows, or normal with size and color characteristics modified. Programs that use their own styling (skinning), like 360Chrome, style over regular windows. When something extra to normal operations happens, such as a program crash, the true, unstylized Windows Title bar might show. It might show before or after the crash information dialog appears. I did not know that adding a bookmark would workaround the issue. The problem can still happens when there are bookmarks. When the "Show bookmark menu" icon is clicked at least once while there are zero bookmarks, but not clicked enough times to where the browser crashes, then bookmarks are added, the browser may still crash upon clicking the "Show bookmark menu" icon again. When there are already bookmarks before any clicking of the "Show bookmark menu" icon, and then the bookmarks are removed so that there are zero bookmarks, and then the "Show bookmark menu" icon is clicked many times until the browser crashes, the browser incurs a crash. Crash is when the program stops operating and its instance no longer runs on the operating system, fails to continue to run on the operating system, or is stopped forcibly from continuing to run by the operating system. Maybe the issue is related to that "360 sync login" being expected, but not being present. Perhaps adding a dummy "360 sync login" program or operation can well patch the issue.
  8. @NotHereToPlayGames - I would like to bring your attention to the following: 1. While an instance of the 360Chrome browser is opened (applies to any of your version series through this version), and the main toolbar's "Show bookmark menu" icon (has a star shape) is clicked three times (does not need to be all at once), the 360Chrome browser software crashes. I have tested this to occur on both Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3 and Windows Vista with Service Pack 2. See the following picture of an illustration of the crash: This is an annoying problem. 2. When using the 13.5.1030 version series on Windows Vista with Service Pack 2, one receives a Windows Firewall prompt when browsing to the banking Web site, https://www.53.com/ (should redirect to https://www.53.com/content/fifth-third/en.html ). One may otherwise still browse using the 360Chrome Web browser software. I have tried to reproduce the issue while instead using Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3, but the problem did not reproduce (maybe because the Windows Firewall software is different). The Windows Firewall prompt is illustrated with the following Windows Vista Windows Firewall dialog box: Could this mean that there is still telemetry happening?
  9. Thank you @NotHereToPlayGames for these builds. I tried the ungoogled build on my computer running Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3 and note that it works way, way better than previous builds. Also, there is a long existing bug that manifests with your 360Chrome builds (any major version series) that I request attention to and, hopefully, have the bug corrected. Please let me know if the bug can be corrected. The Bug: While an instance of the 360Chrome browser is opened, and the main toolbar's "Show bookmark menu" icon (has a star shape) is clicked three times (does not need to be all at once), the 360Chrome browser software crashes.
  10. I would like to pose a question here regarding the MailNews Message Pane behavior. By default, MailNews Message Pane displays a selected message or, for the case where there are multiple messages selected, summaries of selected messages; the message cursor is not used to determine whether to display contents in the Message Pane. I very much dislike the behavior when having multiple messages selected and find that it would be much more useful for me to be able to see individual message contents for a selected message and where it is itself selected by the message cursor. The behavior I would prefer is used by many other email clients, such as Outlook Express 6, but not by MailNews by default. The default behavior is especially less useful or not useful for HTML messages that have many pictures and are oftentimes positioned in tables. For illustration, I have created and attached a picture showing what MailNews displays in the Message Pane when multiple messages are selected. In this example, the message cursor is atop the message with the "Happenings - Generally" Subject. The picture: Is there a way to get MailNews to show only, without summarizing, the individual message contents in the Message Pane for a message that is both selected, where the message cursor is atop the message, and where multiple messages are selected?
  11. Well here is your chance. What is the link to the FFMPEG builds for Windows XP or where can they be found?
  12. I would like to mention that the error "uncaught exception: 2147746065" in "resource:///modules/activity/autosync.js" and at Line 210 is a very commonly occurring error that appears in my MailNews Error Console.
  13. @roytam1 - I believe I found another noteworthy bug in MailNews. I am using the MailNews 52.9.8208a1 (2022-07-01)(32-bit) application on Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3 and the "Windows Classic style" visual style. I am using the Gmail email host with IMAP configuration. The bug report follows: When opening a Drafts IMAP message (I have not tested POP3) that was created by the Outlook Express 6 application or one attempts to open a normal message that was dragged and dropped into the Drafts folder from another MailNews folder, such as Inbox, a Write window opens that unusually does not include more than one blue-ish horizontal rule in the headings section and their is no contents at all of the message to be edited. Closing the Write windows results in an additional Error message written to the Error Console. Throughout this process, the Error Console provides the following errors:
  14. I do not know if the behavior is common to XUL applications. I had thought the behavior to be unintentional, particularly because when using the keyboard navigation to move across menus, the grayed-out menus are skipped when trying to traverse in the direction of the grayed-out menu and a grayed-out menu immediately proceeds.
  15. Yes. I have recorded the menu behavior of the MailNews normal Write window to video. The video may be downloaded at: https://www.mediafire.com/file/ebs3xzmrzabvkqh/MailNews_Write%28Compose%29_Menus_Example.avi/file At the beginning of the video, to about 00:04, I move the mouse around the top section of the area where the "From":, "To:", and "Subject::" fields are to indicate that that area must be selected (such as by clicking any of them; area is usually selected by default when opening the normal Write window). This is important to ensure that the "Insert" and "Format" menus are grayed-out. Afterwards, I left-click and release on a menu label that is not grayed-out. I then proceed to move across the menubar menu labels to demonstrate the behavior of the menus open persistence. I never click again until opening a menu. Notice that when I pass the mouse on top of the grayed-out menu bar labels, that the open menus disappear permanently; then proceeding to pass the mouse over menus that are not grayed out does not show those menus without newly performing a click.
  16. An additional thing to mention is that one must be using the HTML (Rich Text) delivery format in the compose window. Otherwise, the "Insert" and "Format" menus are not present. I shall reword the post description to better communicate this.
  17. I forgot to mention that I am using the MailNews application on Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3 and the "Windows Classic style" visual style. There are a few other issues that I have noticed with the MailNews 52.9.8161a1 (2022-06-10)(32-bit) application. Those are: I have 11 different email accounts all configured using IMAP incoming mail servers and using the Google Gmail host. I have not configured any accounts using POP3. The account I have set as default is my largest account in magnitude, however measured (size, number, of messages, number of folders, etc.). That account has over 43,000 messages in total and over 9,200 messages in its Inbox. Every so often (intermittently) when launching the MailNews application, the account's folder list is not enumerated in the Folder Pane; the account's Account Name is still enumerated. To have MailNews enumerate the folder list in the Folder Pane again, I have to close the MailNews application and start it again. After starting the application again, the account's folder structure enumerates again (anew?), but the Messages pane's column sort order setting corresponding to the account is lost. The described happening does not happen for any of the other configured accounts. After closing the MailNews application while having the application's notification/messages icon (down arrow icon pointing into an envelope) in the system tray, the icon persists after the application is closed. The icon disappears after passing the mouse pointer over it. My impression is that the icon is supposed to be removed when the application closes or that the application does not terminate properly and consequently leaves behind the icon in the system tray.
  18. @roytam1: Thank you for your software and software development. I am now trying and testing them. I would like to report to you a few bugs that I noticed while using your MailNews 52.9.8161a1 (2022-06-10)(32-bit) application. The bugs are as follows: When replying to a message or forwarding a message, if one does not click or move somewhere else in the body and then uses the Quote feature twice consecutively (such as by clicking the Quote button twice). The MailNews application crashes. BACKGROUND: While in a compose message ("Write") window that provides for HTML (Rich Text) editing, and while focus is in the top portion of the composition (header area), the "Insert" and "Format" menus are grayed out. THE BUG: When available menus are opened and one passes the mouse pointer over the menu labels of the menus that are unavailable, the state of menu bars having menu open is lost; after one passes the mouse pointer to another menu label of an available menu after passing over one of the unavailable menus, menus are no longer open.
  19. I have been having diffuculty finding decent Wireless, IEEE 802.11 client utilities for Windows XP. Windows XP comes with its Wireless Zero Configuration utility and service to manage and connect to Wireless networks, but the utility has notable shortcomings: Many EAP Authentication methods are not available. Only one of multiple access points with the same SSID/name is displayed. Identifying access points details such as frequency, channel, or MAC addresses is not possible. The purpose of this thread is to document and facilitate the identification and finding of alternative software wireless clients. I shall attempt to organize information into this post. Please provide information regarding known software clients and experiences. I am also available via PM for issues that some may rather not post directly here. For example, if there is a concern about a software mod that may break a license, about software that normally should not normally be distributed, or for other reasons, please, send a PM. I have been doing research for such clients recently, and have been able to identify some usable clients, but unfortunately, many such clients have been discontinued and are no longer easy to find. The sources for other wireless software client utilities are typically of the following classes: Enterprise software - software intended for business use and targeted for business customers. Hardware designers (ODMs) or manufactures (OEMs) - drivers for hardware products often also have included wireless client utilities. These software, however, can be limited to particular hardware. Party that provides wireless services (typically for a fee) - software may connect to a provider's services and also provide the means to connect to foreign/other networks. Other parties that provide wireless software clients - This may include open source software and other closed-source software released to the public. My notes about software found: Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client I have not found a copy of the software to try. No other known information yet. Cisco Secure Services Client I have not found a copy of the software to try. No other known information yet. SecureW2 Enterprise Client I have only found a restricted (trial) version of the software to try. No other known information yet. XpressConnect by Cloudpath Networks I have not found a copy of the software to try. No other known information yet. Juniper Odyssey Client I have not found a copy of the software to try. No other known information yet. Open1X No other known information yet. Boingo Wireless Utility Last known working version: 2.3.0073 (please post if there is a newer version) Status: Apparently Discontinued URL: https://web.archive.org/web/20071010213632/http://www.boingo.com/downloads/BW1201/boingoinstaller.exe Notes: Tested on Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3. Although software has better support for EAP Authentication options, I have often not been able to achieve connections where I should. Other access points with the same SSID are also not shown. WPA/WPA2/IEEE 802.1X Supplicant Last known working version: 0.7.3 Status: Apparently Discontinued on Windows. URL: http://w1.fi/wpa_supplicant/ Similar threads to this issue have been posted here at MSFN.org for Windows 95/98 and Windows 2000, but not for Windows XP. The Windows 9x thread appears to provide all the information I found from the other sources and is available at:
  20. Correct, @i430VX. The problems that have experienced should affect POSReady and Windows Embedded Standard branded versions of Windows XP. The problem is one of quality control and, in my opinion, company management. The problems with updates are often not limited to Windows XP and troubles with updates may be seen with other Microsoft operating systems and software. There does not appear to be proper quality control anymore. I do not believe that Bill Gates would have tolerated the level of quality releases that are being provided now. The current Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella, appears less concerned about the quality of the product and attempts to have profitability via other means or considerations. I believe that this had been well discussed earlier in this thread, but was unfortunately lost after what was reported to be a server crash. You are probably experiencing the affects of applying KB4487085. You may have system services that do tolerate what KB4487085 breaks very well and resulted in Blue Screens. If problems persists after truly removing KB4487085, an affected service may be damaged or other Windows component may be damaged. This is, unfortunately, something that many times happens when blue screens are experienced. To recover from the issue, try disabling system services that are unnecessary to load and try booting the machine again. I would also recommend running CHKDSK to check for a file system error. These things would have to be done after booting a different operating system instance such as Windows Recovery Console.
  21. @dencorso, The KB4486463 update does appear to have been correctly installed. The system "dllcache" and "Driver Cache\i386" versions of "ntkrnlmp.exe" were both updated to version 5.1.2600.7649 and without having to do anything special. Although I use a multicore processor, I use the ACPI Uniprocessor PC HAL, and am therefore not actually using the KB4486463 kernel. My "ntoskrnl.exe" in use is version 5.1.2600.7581.
  22. I had troubles after applying KB4487085. After installing KB4487085, many programs would not run correctly and I would sometimes receive errors like the following: "The procedure entry point sprinttf_s could not be located in the dynamic link library msvcrt.dll." "Error loading C:\WINDOWS\system32\NvCpl.dll" The second error message appear to be for the nVidia driver software. I removed KB4487085 and things seemed corrected.
  23. WinUSB is an access driver with API/functions to access USB devices in a generic manner. It is often installed for use with mobile devices (such mobile-marketed tablet computing devices, GPS navigation systems, etc.). Modern MTP implementations and connectivity software for mobile devices are often implemented via WinUSB. I believe that 6.1.7600.16385 was the last/latest compatible version of WinUSB for Windows XP.
  24. It looks like Amazon.com has corrected or made changes to allow Silverlight to work again (it was supposed to) on Amazon.com; previously an error would be returned. You do not need to pay to use all Amazon video content that requires DRM. Instead of trying to watch the main video, view the trailer if it is available. The trailer has the same requirements as the paid streaming videos.
  25. ESET's current antivirus appear about as lightwieght as Kaspersky Endpoint Security 10 with the Endpoint control options turned-off. It should be noted that current Kaspersky products for Home users are no longer decent, as they now require Microsoft .NET Framework. @Dibya - Can you confirm whether you believe that your ability to use ESET NOD32 Antivirus 11 series is due to your compatibility updates? I recommend the following pages to determine current version numbers and, support status, and official Windows XP support: ESET Home Products End-of-Life Policy: https://support.eset.com/kb3678/ ESET Business Products End-of-Life Policy: https://support.eset.com/kb3592/ Also, ESET Endpoint Antivirus appears to be intended by ESET to support Windows XP with Service Pack 3 for a longer time than its ESET NOD32 branded products.
