  1. If they only cared about drivers, and not to impose a restriction, they could have defaulted to /MAXMEM=3072 or some other number, and allow it to be lifted and observe system stability. Now the maxmem is hardcoded.
  2. I'd be curious if you could try Server 2003 and see if the problem persists. It is superior in most aspects.
  3. Perhaps the author forgot that the browser is overall quite wasteful and that the list is managed by a database, but vaguely remembered that adding an entry to the end of a list is simpler than deleting one and shifting the remaining entries into the freed space. So he had a bright idea to save some writes and processor.
  4. I think it's normal that the program hides or deletes previous visitations to the same address. I'm not looking for an incriminating log of activity within a certain period, but recent automatic bookmarks. I have added the settings, but time will tell if the history grows bigger. I can't get it past Last 7 days.
  5. Do I need to place these entries in user.js and not in about:config? user_pref("places.history.expiration.max_pages", 2147483647); user_pref("places.history.expiration.interval_seconds", 2147483647); I don't have a user.js file, where does it go?
  6. I don't know who installs image codecs at the OS level. Is there even such a thing? Microsoft had FLT codecs that only worked in Office. We probably won't see webP files being distributed outside of the web for images like album artwork in hopes of crashing Foobar2000. Any webp file I open on my computer in IrfanView I would have intentionally saved because it had real content. I've tried disabling WebP in my browsers in the past because usually it is transcoded from JPEG with an additional quality loss, but then I sometimes got no images at all.
  7. If I set image.webp.enabled to false, some websites like YouTube stop loading images.
  8. What harm could the webP vulnerability cause practically? Can they include a program in the picture file that does something useful? People seem to be worried about image viewers.
  9. I installed the extension. Can it increase the number of addresses to keep in history? My problem was that I remembered visiting a certain page, but not all the details, and it had fallen out of the history too soon. What is "async" in the context of Firefox. I understand how two processes can be asynchronous. But how does this term apply to the dyna, mic size of history? In Opera I have 50000 entries. It is endless. Sounded like Firefox admitted that their browser isn't particularly efficient when they decreased the size.
  10. I skimmed the quote and thought that he asked about executable files specifically. For images and sound there are players that most people know of, like IrfanView or Media Player Classic. Maybe QuickView had uses in 1999. It doesn't support new formats that were invented since then. I don't know about viewers for Office programs. There used to be a mini Word and Excel viewer by Microsoft, but I never used those.
  11. Can I change the history size of visited addresses in New Moon? In number of items or how many days to keep it?
  12. For example, "PE Tools" by NEOx/uinC.
  13. Why is this program desirable? The formats it can open are limited, and you can get another small application that is equally as good for images/sound or gives more comprehensive report on the PE header with editing capabilities.
  14. I know about shady sites that require a premium account, but these are not among them. There you usually have to wait 30 to 60 seconds. For example on SourceForge, there is a circular counter that goes from 5 to 0 and then the download starts. You can also click on Problems Downloading directly. On ModDB you see a white box with a clickable link. Having an account on these sites doesn't bypass the intermediary dialog.
  15. Why is it common for websites to wait for 5 to 10 seconds after clicking a download link before the download actually starts? They usually not show a countdown, and give a clickable link that starts the transfer immediately. The accompanying text might say: "If your download doesn't start automatically, click the link, or select another mirror." If I do click the link, I usually get a second download started after a delay. It is not those sites where you have to pay a subscription to get high speed, but regular open web servers.
  16. It never occurred to me to check the program with an anti-virus because it passed a smell test. I've been having this program since 2016 (1.1.2) and used sporadically. It wants to download updated versions of itself and is probably classed as a downloader because it this. You could block its internet access. I like that it is a Delphi program and thus doesn't require big frameworks.
  17. Can you use MOS Authenticator for this? It is a small program that I used on WinXP to access a bank. But it may be a different format of password. http://www.maxoutput.com/authenticator/
  18. Can't you use DLP directly in place of it? I think the basic command-line is compatible. Recently YouTube figured out to return 403 Forbidden in the middle of a download, necessitating a manual check for completeness. Recent DLP seems to have a workaround for it.
  19. No I actually visit the Old Reddit where the issue happens. I selected it in the preferences.
  20. Why does this page cause massive CPU usage in New Moon 28? The Skyrim forum features a scrolling blurred background that is barely visible. Detached backgrounds should be a bit more heavy. But why so much? The performance is better in Serpent. https://www.reddit.com/r/skyrim/comments/15ogxfp/marker_stuck_on_void_teleportation_room/
  21. People can just install Server if they want to use a system like that, with less trouble than transplanting individual files, and fewer nonsense features.
  22. I hear that is no longer possible to add file associations in the registry on Windows 10. And that you need to obtain a secret hash. To what extent is this true? What happens if you open Registry Editor and try to add keys under HKCR, or try to merge a REG file with Registry Editor? Do other registry editors like Registry Workshop have been prevented from acessing parts of the registry? To me this is an important disadvantage of Windows 10 because I need to put 5 to 10 programs on the right-click menu to open a file in different programs depending on the situation.
  23. Can you connect your disk directly to the motherboard to eliminate the USB adapter? Use a controller driver that supports large disks, and create normal GPT partitions. The limit isn't impacted by the cluster size selected in the file system because it happens on the physical sector level. If you want to change the sector size of your partitions, then you must create new partitions and copy files onto them individually. Do you have some complex licensed software onto these partitions that requires them to be preserved verbatim? Would that software be happy to run/boot from a dodgy USB adapter? You could try to copy the entire source disk starting from sector 0, including its partition table, and don't employ any partitioning tools whatsoever, but that would keep the old aligment of 63 obviously. Then add another partition to the end or extend the last one to fill up the remaining space. When you created "placeholders" for the old partitions, did their size match down to the sector? If you specified their size in megabytes, they might not be the exact same size.
  24. What is the performance of the Bear Windows driver? Is it similar to Windows XP without any driver and very slow? In the standard deviaton list it days that you can't use resolutions higher than 800*600 on either Intel 7/8 or GeForce 5xxx and newer ones, and even less on Intel 845/915, which significantly limits the driver's usefulness with the most common video adapters. I do remember that ATi had a limited DOS memory on the X550, but GeForce 6200 was still good.
  25. I don't have that. Is it stable? Last time I read about it people mentioned that it crashed.
