  1. Could anyone of you experts please tell me if it is OK to have 'Loadperf' errors in the event log ? I mean does it matter ? I'm pretty sure that it's because i have removed the 'Performance logs and alerts' service and/or 'System Monitor' service. Also, i have another error in the event log which i don't know what services removal is causing this. It's under 'Applications' and the process is 'Userenv' and the error is : "Windows cannot determine the assocciated site for this computer(the RPC server is unavailable). Group policy processing aborted." If any of you guys knows what i can do to fix this error message then i would really appreciate it, since i can't use 'gpedit.msc' i.e. group policy configuration, because of this error. Lastly, then i get an error in the 'setuperr.log' file after the install and the error is that the 'Spooler' service couldn't be started. I know that this happens because i have removed printer support, but could any of you please tell me if this is something to worry about or if i can just ignore it. Thank's in advance. Martin.
  2. No s***, sherlock! You've just discovered that neither nLite nor Ryan's update pack supports Vista
  3. Thank you so very much, my friend
  4. OK, if anybody should be interrested in this, then i have just finished a test and can happily report that if selecting to remove the 'Terminal Services' service, then the 'Remote Assistance' shortcut in start menu's programs list + the 'Remote Assistance' folder under %programfiles% are both removed also However, if anyone can explain the answer to my question about the beep driver Vs. the 'No error beeps' tweak, then i would really appreciate it, as i can't find the answer to this myself, unfortunetly(and as i personally hate to have something redundant enabled) Thanks in advance.
  5. @nuhi By a lot of testing, then i have found out that the 'Remove Windows Catalog' tweak is only applied if you remove IE. Just an FYI Edit: Oh sorry! I forgot to say that i have not tried the v1.4b, and that this issue is tested on v1.3.5, so if it is allready fixed in v1.4b, then i humbly apologice for the redundant report.
  6. I would really appreciate if someone would please answer a questions for me. If i remove the beep driver service, then is the 'No beep on errors' tweak then redundant ? I would personally think so, but it's just that since that tweak isn't hidden after i have selected to remove the beep driver service, then i'm a little confused about this. Also, i can test this myself tomorrow when i wake up(it's 4 a clock in the morning in Denmark), but if any of you guys should know the answer to the following question, then it would save me some ours of testing(i have a slow computer with only 256MB RAM, so the nLite/VMware processes is very slow): If i select to remove the 'Terminal Services' service, then will the 'Remote Assistance' shortcut in start menu's programs list + the 'Remote Assistance' folder under %programfiles% then be removed also ? If not, then is there some other options which would delete those two things in nLite ? Thank's in advance.
  7. Make a 7z switchless installer of CCleaner and include this reg file : Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\Shell\Open CCleaner...] [-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}\Shell\Run CCleaner]
  8. This issue is really just a matter of personal preference. Some ppl want to have nearly all the fixes installed, but personally then i only want to have updates installed that really serves a purposse i.e. which is important for either security or stability, and which then means that i install all high priority updates(except IE7 and WGAN), and don't install any optional fixes at all, as they only adress minor issues. Additionally, then i don't like the idea of having any unofficial updates installed either. For ppl that feel the same as me, then Xable's XUDPack is a great alternative to RyanVM's pack. Xable's XUDPack : http://www.udp.xable.net Or as Kelsenellenelvian allready said, then if you want to have most of the optional fixes also installed + some unofficial fixes which supercedes the official ones, then instead go for : RyanVM's Pack : http://www.ryanvm.net/msfn/updatepack.html ...Just to let ppl know that there are more than one way to skin the cat(or something like that)
  9. Personally, then i can't really understand why anyone would need a backup app for simply making backups of files and folders. For such tasks, then i have always just used explorer.exe. Although Acronis True Image, which i recommended, does support normal folder/file backups also, then i do admit that i was thinking of images when i wrote the post.
  10. @SoreGums You are very welcome, mate Yeah, i'm also really impressed with all the new great parameters that is available now with this version of the module, and indeed, the shortcut creation parameter is indeed simply brilliant Other things which i like the most, is the 'hidcon:' switch for the 'RunProgram=' parameter, so the console window is completely hidden during batch file loading and the ability to run MSI installers directly, without needing msistub.exe or msiexec.exe. CU, Martin.
  11. Instead of Nero > ImgBurn for data and Burrrn for audio. Instead of WMP11 > foobar2000 Instead of Norton Antivirus > NOD32 Instead of Adobe Reader > Foxit Reader
  12. I'm personally a very big fan of Xable's XUDPack. It differs from Ryan's pack by only including updates from the high priority section of Windows Update and not including any optional or unofficial fixes. Xable has just released a major new revision of his pack today(v3.0.0), which has been totally rebuilt from the ground up and now only includes all high priority updates and then everything else, like the Windows Update Agent, Microsoft Update ActiveX Control, WGA-V/N and Flash Player etc, has been splitted from the pack and is instead available as seperate additional addon modules, so you now can completely tailor which parts you need and which you don't. Before, then this pack was simply awesome, but now it's just hands down unbelievably brilliant ...Just wanted to recommend an alternative solution to other ppl reading this thread... Xable's XUDPack : http://udp.xable.net/ Of course, if optional and unofficial fixes is additionally desired, then Ryan's pack is the way to go...
  13. Hi again, vim (And btw, you are very welcome, mate!) The moded module i linked to is smaller because it is made for only decompressing LZMA(default 7z archiving algorithm). There are also three other versions of the module on the site for other algorithms. Another reason is that it's the 7ZSD.sfx version, instead of the frequently other used 7zS.sfx version of the module. The difference between the two is that the 7ZSD.sfx version is dynamically linked to MSVCRT.dll, whereas 7zS.sfx is statically linked to it, and so since all newer Windows OSes includes MSVCRT.dll by default in their OS, then there's no reason to use the version of the module which wasts additional space on statically linking to that lib also(unless you want to support legacy OS's also). The moded module has now abandoned the 7zS.sfx version and now only supports the 7ZSD.sfx version. This module isn't UPX'd, because you can't change the icon on a SFX installer made with a UPX'd module, but you can just UPX the module after you have changed the icon, if you care about saving about half of the modules uncompressed size. I'm not sure what it is you're trying to archive with your reshacking question, so i can't answer specifically, however this moded module itself allready includes several parameters for changing the text, fonts, buttons, logos and extraction dialogs etc. For example, you can reshack the normal module to e.g. completely hide the extraction dialog, but with this moded module, then you just add the parameter : GUIMode="2". On the site i linked to earlier, then there is also another section which shows various examples and pictures of how it looks during the installation and then also lists the needed code for 'config.txt' to archieve that result. If what you are after isn't allready covered by the new feature set of the moded module, then i'm affraid that i can't help you, since i don't personally have any other experience with reshacking exe's other than the simple process of changing icons on my selfmade 7z switchless installers. CU, Martin.
  14. @SoreGums I am reffering to(and have linked to) the modified version of that module, which includes several knew features... You can find descriptions of all parameters on the modified modules homepage : http://7zsfx.solta.ru/en/
  15. @SoreGums 1. Download 7ZSD.sfx from it's homepage : http://7zsfx.solta.ru/en/ 2. Copy/paste the following into notepad and save it using 'UTF8' as 'config.txt' : ;!@Install@!UTF-8! InstallPath="%Programfiles%\\Portable Firefox" GUIMode="2" ;!@InstallEnd@! (Change the path as you like, and remember to use double backslashes) 3. Make a 7z archive of the contents inside your 'Portable Firefox' folder. 4. Place the 7z archive, 7ZSD.sfx and config.txt into the same folder and copy/paste the following into a command prompt : copy /b 7ZSD.sfx + config.txt + archive.7z Setup.exe (Change 'Setup.exe' to whatever you want) @vim Use the above directions + additionally add the following to 'config.txt': RunProgram="hidcon:setup.cmd" Change 'setup.cmd' to whatever. If you don't run a batch file, then remove the 'hidcon:' part(it's used to hide the console window). You can run 'msi' files directly without using 'msistub.exe' or 'msiexec.exe' with this modified 7z SFX installer module(7ZSD.sfx). Btw, if you don't want a fixed extraction path and just want to use the temp folder, and also have the folder with the extracted files deleted afterwards, then remove the following from 'config.txt' : InstallPath="x"
  16. Instead of downloading all the post-SP2 updates, then i would recommend that you simply use an update pack instead. I'm personally a very big fan of Xable's XUDPack, which includes all High Priority updates and no optional or unofficial fixes(and a little extra, like MS. Update engine and flash player etc). If you preffer to also have nearly all the optional updates installed also and to also have some unofficial updates included which supercedes some of the official fixes, then you can use RyanVM's update pack instead. Xable's XUDPack : http://udp.xable.net/ RyanVM's Update Pack : http://www.ryanvm.net/msfn/updatepack.html Edit: Sorry, to answer your exact question, then if you mean that you have the actual hotfix installers allready downloaded and stored on your computer, then yes, you can just add them to nLite also, but if you are talking about the allready installed updates, then you would need to make your own update pack with the exact hotfixed files, reg keys and catalog files.
  17. I would personally recommend the latest build of Acronis True Image Home v9.0(build 3677). I have used Norton 2003 for some years and really liked it, but then after i tried ATI9 for about a year ago, then i switched to that. Some of the reason where that backups where done without rebooting and the backup/restoration jobs where much quicker and smaller in size. Then when ATI10 came out, then i immidiately switched to that, but at the end of the day, i had to uninstall it and go back to ATI9, because it would show an error message evrytime i wanted to restore an image. I also read on the ATI forum at the time, that countless ppl had problems with ATI10, and the general concensus over there, where that it was a matter of harware compatibility if it would work right or not(I'm personally doubting this, since v9 worked fine for me, but what do i know...). Anyways, i haven't tried ATI10 for a long time now, so i can't say if my issue still exists or not, but as i'm perfectly happy with ATI9, and since v10 just seems to add bloat IMHO and as i don't need any of the new features personally, then i will stick to good old ATI9.
  18. @Tarun Thank you very much for the detailed info, i really appreciate it I can't believe that you got banned and your post deleted for simply posting some weldocumented constructive criticism CU, Martin.
  19. Could you please post a couple of those issues ? I am not misdoubting you or anything like that, but just generally interrested in this
  20. I personally install NOD32 with a 7z SFX installer which consists of the NOD32 installer, a reg file and a batch file : This will bypass the prompt about if you want to enable ThreatSence.NET and the detection of unwanted applications and then it disables the splash screen, enables silent mode and disables the custom graphical user interface. Of course AMON, IMON and all the other engines are all fully enabled and activated.
  21. The great Xable also provides an addon(maker) for this tool Source : http://xable.net/board/index.php?showtopic=31
  22. Well, i don't personally use WMP myself(foobar2000), but as i was feeling alittle bored at the moment, then i have just did a very quick search and i stumbled upon this quote from MSFN member 'elajua' : Source : http://www.msfn.org/board/index.php?s=&amp...st&p=654591 So in this case, then i would just make an addon that called the official MS installer directly. Then in your case, where you use an automatic addon-maker, then you should just make an empty folder and move the WMP installer into it and then point the addon-maker to that folder. Then select the WMP11 installer as the file that should be called and then enter the following in the place where you define the switches needed : /Q:A /R:N These switches means 'totally quiet'(admin mode) and 'no reboot' afterwards. Of course you could also just instead wait for someone else to come by which actually knows what the he** he's talking about Btw, nice to see a fellow countryman around here CU, Martin.
  23. Yes. As IcemanND allready has said, then it's mandatory for all reg files to begin with : 'Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00' or 'REGEDIT4' + A blank line underneath. If these rules aren't followed to the letter, then nothing is parsed, since the reg file will be interpreted as containing illigal syntax...
  24. Ahh, yes - you defenetly got a valid point there, mate CU, Martin.
  25. Hi Acheron That is a nice script you have there and i'm sure it will be very helpfull to many. I started with installing the extensions with a 'for' loop and '-install-global-extension', but as i hate to afterwards go in and have to reconfigure every extensions options after my likings, then i decided to just install them first manually and set them completely up, and then when i copy the profile folder over to use it in an unattended 7z SFX installer, then all the extensions will also be there - pre-configured and everything. Your 'echo method' is very cool, i must say. Also, i didn't know that there where a firefox.exe switch to setup Fx as the default browser, which then makes my big reg file totally redundant Well, atleast i didn't called myself an Fx expert I have posted the reg keys which Thunderbird sets when you select 'Ok' to make it the default mail client in a previous post in this thread (I used RegSnap and removed everything not set by Thunderbird). CU, Martin.
