  1. @OverFlow Thank's for your reply. I would really appreciate if you would please answer the question i sent you in my first post i.e. : Thank's in advance. Martin.
  2. @All I am experiencing something that i don't understand and i would like to hear if it is the same for you guys also ? When installing Office 2003 Pro. from an admin install point which is updated with SP2 and all other updates by using OverFlow's great script and instructions, then if i'm not merging the regkeys for the updates to the registry, then Microsoft Update will think that i'm not having all these updates installed and will prompt me to install them(as it looks through the registry for determining this, in contrary to the better Office Update method). All this i understand perfectly, and i have beforehand exported the needed regkeys to a file, but the thing is that if i don't merge the regkeys, then Microsoft Update will after a long period of time display an error message ? Then i was wondering if this is the same for you guys ? I know that i of course can just merge the regkeys, but i was just currious about this and also because i'm planning to only use Office Update to check/update my Office installation and only use Microsoft Update for Windows XP updates and because of this, then i was actually thinking about not merging those regkeys afterall, but now it seems that i have no choise, as else i cannot even access Microsoft Update when i want to update Windows XP on every patch tuesday ? Also, if i merge the regkeys for the updates to the registry, then shouldn't i be able to see those updates listed on 'Add/Remove Programs', if i have 'Show Updates' enabled ? I'm asking because i can't see any updates listed when doing that ? Thank's in advance. Martin.
  3. @OverFlow Thank you so much for making and releasing this brilliant script of yours, it's very much appreciated I would really appreciate if you would please answer a question for me which i have been worrying a little about. I have just used your script to slipstream SP2 + 15 other updates to my Office 2003 Pro. admin install point. During the running of the script, then i saw this message on the command prompt : Extracting 'KB929064' D:\Temp\Updates\ohotfix.exe The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process. Then a little later then a dialog popped up asking me if i wanted to overwrite 'ohotfix.exe'. I clicked on 'Yes', and the dialog closed and the script continued. Do you think that this is something that i should worry about ? Also, the dialog's title was KB932330, but the error message on the command prompt was for KB929064, so i'm not sure if the command prompt error and the dialog error are related at all ? Also, when the script was finished, then the status screen stated that 20 updates had been run, but i had only SP2 + 15 other updates in the folder with the script ? Do you know why this happens and if i should worry about it ? The updated admin install point seems to work fine and Office Update reports no updates needed, but i'm just still a little worried about the file(ohotfix.exe) that i selected to overwrite during the running of the script and also about the script reporting that 20 updates had been run instead of the correct 16(i had 16 files in the folder with the script = SP2 + 15 others). Just to test if it would happen again, then i did run the script again on a new admin install point, for checking if the error would show again and it did, but this time then there where also 3 more errors on the command prompt for another update and about : ohotfix.exe, ohotfix.ini, ohotfixr.dll and also three dialogs popped up asking me if i wanted to overwrite these files(one at a time). I selected 'Yes' to all three dialogs and then the script continued, but then i closed and ended the script since it was only for testing if the error would show again and which it did + 3 other errors for another update this time. Thank's in advance and again, many thank's for this great script Martin.
  4. After you have finished making your changes with nLite, then go out of nLite and edit the winnt.sif file as you like and then start nLite again and make an ISO of the folder. Or make the ISO with nLite and then afterwards use an app to edit the winnt.sif in the ISO before you burn it. This is just theory, as i have never done it myself, but i believe that it's correct. Or else, then i apologise...

    strange problem

This happens when the option : System > Advanced > Performance > 'Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop' is disabled and when using a desktop background other than 'None' with default color. It can be enabled/disabled by nLite also i believe.
  6. I don't know why, but some tweaks will not be active imidiately after the installation, but only after rebooting, like e.g. if hidding some desktop shortcuts, then they will still be shown innitially, but then goes away after rebooting. I'm guessing that this is also the case here ? Just a guess, though... Edit: I'm talking about nLite's reg tweaks and not manual reg tweaks after the install...
  7. For others interressted... Enabling the 'Classic Start Menu' will by default additionally add 4 extra desktop icons in addition to the Recycle Bin : My Computer, My Documents, My Network Places and Internet Explorer. Just in case anyone else where interressted... (Note: This is standard Windows XP behaviour and not just nLite...)

    Boot

nLite always makes bootable ISO's and hence, when you use nLite or another burning app to write the nLite made ISO to disc, then the disc will also be bootable. During booting, then this message is displayed : "Press any key to boot from CD-ROM" for a few seconds. If it dosen't, then you need to go into your BIOS and make your CD/DVD drive to boot before your harddrive's active partition.
  9. Thank's again for your kind help, my friend. Best regards - Sincerly, Martin.
  10. Hi vasyabelkin Ahh, that's of course right Sorry, i'm an id*** Thank you so much for your help. Btw, I'm using the classic interface, but i have set the "Internet Explorer" desktop icon to "Show". Now since the "Internet Explorer" icon is being shown by default in the classic theme anyway, then would it then be better if i instead remove the "Show" for that icon and leave it undefined, if i want it shown ? I want to know if my ISO is fine, or if i should rather re-make it so that the "Internet Explorer" icon is undefined instead of set to "Show" ? I mean is it fine to set it to "Show" even though the icon is being made by default anyway ? Thank's in advance. Martin.
  11. Hi again, Muppet Hunter Thank you for your always helpfull tips and advice. I really appreciate it, my friend Best regards, Sincerly - Martin.
  12. When installing Windows XP Pro. without using nLite, then the only desktop icon that's made by default is the Recycle Bin. Then when using nLite, then under the "Tweaks" section, then there are options for either showing or hiding some different desktop icons like e.g. "Internet Explorer" and "My Documents" etc. If i then dosen't enable any of those desktop icon tweaks i.e. i dosen't set any of them to either "Show" or "Hide", then i thought that the normal thing would happen like if i haden't used nLite, which is that only the Recycle Bin icon is made by default, but the thing that happens is that besides the Recycle Bin then also four other icons are made like e.g. "Internet Explorer" and "My Documents" etc. Could you please tell me if this is normal behaviour or a bug ? I mean that if i don't define a desktop shortcut to "Hide", then it's automatically enabled by default ? Also, Since i personally only want to have the "Internet Explorer" desktop icon on my desktop by default and no other icons, then i have set all the desktop icons except "Internet Explorer" to "Hide" and then i'm wondering about if i should set "Internet Explorer" to "Enabled", or if i shouldn't set "Internet Explorer" to anything, since it will be made anyway ? Actually, i have allready made an nLite bootable ISO where i have set "Internet Explorer" to "Show" and all the other desktop icons to "Hide" and i would like to know what the most correct thing would be to do, i mean should i set the "Internet Explorer" desktop icon to "Show", or shouldn't i set the "Internet Explorer" icon to anything, since it will be made anyway ? Sorry, i know that it propperly dosen't matter, but i'm a bit of an perfectionist, and want to know if the thing i have done is the correct way to do it i.e. Set the "Internet Explorer" desktop icon to "Show" ? Thank's in advance. Martin.
  13. Sorry, but i just wanted to say that i actually didn't know that there was a BIOS setting for Num-Lock also and i have just checked and mine is set to "Off". Could one of you guys then please tell me if the nLite "Num-Lock - On" tweak then isn't just meant to enable Num-Lock for people that have NumLock disabled in their BIOS and the nLite "Num-Lock - Off" tweak is for turning Num-Lock off for people that have Num-Lock enabled in their BIOS ? I just want to make sure that i understand the option right. Also if i undertand the option right, then does it work for you guys when you set the tweak to "On" ? And then if you set it to "On" and then manually disabled it afterwards when Windows starts, then at next boot then it will still be off right ? (even though you set the tweak to "On" in nLite) Thank's in advance. Martin.
  14. Some days ago i installed Windows XP Pro. SP2 from an image i made with nLite. I haden't removed anything, but just made it unattended, tweaked and integrated Xable's High-Priority Update Pack. I am very happy with the result, but i'm wondering about a little thing, though. All the tweaks i enabled(or disabled) worked perfectly except one: The "Num Lock - On"(or enabled or something) tweak. When the setup was finished, then there was no light turned on for Num Lock on my keyboard. I rebooted and still it didn't turn on the light. Then i enabled it myself, and of course it's no problem to do that simple thing, but i was just querious about if i had misunderstood what the tweak was supposed to do or something ? Isn't that tweak just supposed to turn the light on for Num Lock when Windows is installed, so you don't have to press the "Num Lock" key yourself after a fresh install ? Also, is the "Num Lock" key normally turned on after a normal fresh install ?(i can't remember, but i think not and that's why i enabled the tweak). Also, that option only is about if Num Lock should be turned on or not upon first startup after installation right ? I mean if i had selected "Num Lock - Off", and then had enabled it anyway upon first boot, then would the light still be turned on when rebooting again ? Finally, if i understand the tweak right, then does it work for you guys ? Thank's in advance. Martin.
  15. Thank's for your reply, mate For other's reading this, then i have found out that the "Full Name" besides the "Computer Name" is the "Owner" i.e. your own name and is displayed in the "Registered To" field under "System" properties.
  16. First of, thanks a million to nuhi for creating such an amazing app and i must be some kind of moron for not having getting into it earlier... I have just made my first unattended nLite install and somethings weren't like i wanted, so before i try again to make a new unattended setup, then i would really appreciate if you guys would please answer some questions for me. 1. Besides the "Computer Name", then there is also a "Full name" question. Is the "Full Name" question at this place for my own name, or the computer's full name ? If it's the computer's full name, then can i leave it blank, since i allready have entered a name for the computer in the "Computer Name" ? Also can the "Computer name" include a space, like : "Martin Hertz" ? Also the changelog states that we can now use an asterisk for computer name, what will then be the computer name ? 2. Under the user accounts questions, then besides the default "Administrator" and "Guest" accounts, then i make a new account with my name and sets that to autologin and no passwords. The "Guest" account is "Deactivated" by default. Is that fine to leave it "Deactivated", since i don't use a "Guest" account ? The built-in "Administrator" account is by default "Enabled". Is this fine to leave it enabled, if i don't want to see an account named "Administrator" besides my own user account, or do i have to deactivate it, then. 3. Can i just choose to not answer the questions for computer name and workgroup name, and will the install then just use the default values when i use "hide pages" ? Or do i have to fill them in, as else those dialog boxes will come up during the install ? Thanks in advance. Martin.
