  1. Nothing is copied to HDD in my examples... Only the contents of these folders are copied over: \$OEM$\$Docs \$OEM$\$Progs \$OEM$\$$ \$OEM$\$1 And 'OemPreinstall=Yes' also needs to be enabled in winnt.sif... Edit: Ohh sorry - i missed your edit
  2. Ohh, i'm sorry for butting in then... Anyway, if it was me, then i would avoid copying anything over to HDD and instead do something like e.g.: Place runonceex.inf into '\$OEM$'. Place cmdlines.txt into '\$OEM$': [COMMANDS] "rundll32.exe advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection runonceex.inf,DefaultInstall" "rundll32.exe iernonce.dll,RunOnceExProcess" Place your apps into e.g. '\$OEM$\RunOnceEx' and then use dirid '%01%\RunOnceEx'. If you wanted to have the app-install folder into the root, then do instead e.g.: Place runonceex.inf into '\SOFTWARE'. Place cmdlines.txt into '\$OEM$': [COMMANDS] "rundll32.exe advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection ..\SOFTWARE\runonceex.inf,DefaultInstall" "rundll32.exe iernonce.dll,RunOnceExProcess" Place your apps into '\SOFTWARE' and then use dirid '%01%' to reference '%cdrom%\SOFTWARE'. Edit: Forgot to say that in these examples, then the RunOnceEx reg-entries are imported at T-12 and then immidiately after executed...

    new fileset

@tommyp I'm sorry, i thought that you only wanted to hear from people which could reproduce the issue, and since i coudn't, then i didn't responded... Sorry about that, mate Anyway, i only tested A, if that matters... If you want me to test the others then please don't hesitate to ask! I'm guessing it's a server only issue, since we've both tested with Pro and Fred's on Server... Thank's for your info about FINDSTR and RUNDLL32.EXE not working either, mate! CU, Martin.
  4. If you add reg.exe into a specific folder(or have it on your system allready), then HFSLIP will make the lba-fix in a way which also works during setup. HFSLIP can slipstream DX9c in a way which leaves out all the bloat(pictures of gaming devices). You can use an answer-file to make the HFSLIP process completelly unattended. Open-source and written in plain cmd syntax, so you can see exactly what's going on behind the scenes and you're able to mod it to your own likings if you see fit. Last time i checked, then HFSLIP supported more updates for direct integration than nLite did... Finally, then HFSLIP supports FDV's Win2k IE/Junk Removal Fileset, which takes all the crap out of Win2k and really makes it fly!
  5. Hi Artisan! Nice to see a fellow Win2k/FDV user I'm really not an expert on infs i must admit, but couldn't you just do something like e.g.: [SourceDisksNames] 1 = "Windows 2000 CD",\cdrom_ip.5,,\SOFTWARE And then use dirid '%1%' to point to '%cdrom%\SOFTWARE' in your RunOnceEx reg-entries ? If i'm way of here, then i apologise in advance... CU, Martin.
  6. If you have defined the computer name and still gets prompted, then the reason is that you miss this: [GuiUnattended] AdminPassword=*

    new fileset

Hi FDV! Thanks for looking into these issues and for naming me in the changelog! I have just finished testing set8d... Fixed: Regfiles wouldn't run when double-clicked. Xcopy was missing. Unfixed: HFSLIP temp folder not deleted from %windir%. Xcopy, attrib and cmdow is present, but the cmd shell dosen't respond to them and states 'Unknown command' when running e.g. 'attrib /?'. Empty labeled task-scheduler folder under 'Control Panel'. 'Search the internet' link under 'Start Menu > Search'. Empty 'system' folder under %windir%. Thanks in advance.

    new fileset

OK, i renamed FDVFILES to _FDVFILES and rerun the HFSLIP process and then tested the produced ISO in a VM, and now all problems where disappeared, so the culprit is indeed set8c... Thank's in advance. CU, Martin.

    new fileset

OK, i made another HFSLIP run with set8c and have just finished testing it in a VM, and all the above issues are still apparent, unfortunetly... I will make another HFSLIP run now without FDV's fileset and report back when i have tested it out... Edit: Btw, in set8c, then xcopy.exe is commented out in both txtsetup.sif and layout.inf...

    new fileset

Hi tommyp Thank's for your interest! Yes, FDV has two versions of his fileset; one for Pro.(Workstation) and one for Server... Anyway, with FDV's fileset, then you need to download uniata.sys and place it in FDVFILES(or in 'SOURCE\I386')... It's in step 10 of FDV's 'Windows 2000 total slipstream' tutorial and here is the link to uniata.sys: http://alter.org.ua/en/soft/win/uni_ata/ Again, many thank's for your interest in this, mate CU, Martin.

    new fileset

@FDV I have just noticed some other issues with set8c: No xcopy.exe in '%windir%\system32'. attrib.exe is in '%windir%\system32', but when running 'attrib /?' in a cmd prompt, then the command isn't recogniced... When double-clicking a regfile, then explorer states: "Cannot find the file 'pathto\regfile'(or one of it's components). Make sure the path and filename are correct and that all required libraries are available." Thank's in advance Edit: Hmm, i now also see that there's still the hfslip temp folder present in %windir%... Still, the only thing i've changed in this test, was to upgrade from set7 to 8c, so i'm not really thinking that this should be a hfslip issue... Also, i'm not using any addons from other people or such things, and are just installing some apps and extra regtweaks from RunOnceEx... I will make another hfslip/set8c test tomorrow, or the day after at latest, and report back when i have tested it in a VM... CU, Martin.

    new fileset

Hi FDV! Sorry for not having tested your fileset earlier, when you offered it for testing... Anyway, as always great job! Two very minor things... There's a leftover from the removed task-scheduler: If you go into explorer by hitting 'Win+E' and select 'Control Panel', then right under 'Printers', then there's a folder with an empty name and where the comment states 'Schedules computer tasks to run automatically'... Second, then i'm guessing that the new 'Search the internet' link under 'Start Menu > Search' isn't intentional... Again many thanks for your great work and efforts CU, Martin.
  13. Here's a regfile for unattended use on WinXP-Pro-SP3, which exactly matches Black Viper's 'Tweaked' profile... I had first found an inf here on MSFN, but i decided to make my own regfile, as i wasen't sure about what profile was used in that inf, or if it was entirelly, or only mostly based on Black Viper's site... Also, maybe there have been some changes recently to Black Viper's services page, since it lists at the bottom: Most recent update: October 22, 2008 I have assembled the regfile by downloading the WinXP-Pro-SP3 'Safe' profile regfile from Black Viper's site and then changing it to match the 'Tweaked' profile... Anyway, i just thought to post it in case anyone cared... Edit: I forgot to say that if you have applied this regfile and wants to undo the changes, then there's a regfile available for download on Black Viper's site, which will set all the WinXP-Pro-SP3 services back to it's default state: http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/registry.htm (Scroll down and find the zip-archive named 'Default XP Pro SP3 Start v3.00.zip') Black_Viper_Tweaked_Profile.reg
  14. Please first read up on the instructions given on the HFSLIP homepage... The HF folder is where you place HFSLIP supported updates... HFSLIP runs some batch/inf-files and makes a temp folder on your systemdrive during the Windows install, since there needs to be added some reg-entries and post-install commands during/after the install, but that's nothing to worry about at all, since it runs flawless and is much more intelligent/effecient than MS's own imbecile update-slipstreaming method, which bloats your disc with the update installers, leaves the updated binaries uncabbed and runs/unpacks each update installer just to be able to add the needed reg-entries and post-install commands...
  15. 3'rd party defragmenters that features intelligent file-placement schemes will obviously improve performance compared to the built-in solution, as that dosen't feature intelligent file-placement, but the actual performance difference however, is IMHO indeed very much overestimated by the different 3'rd party vendors... The most important thing for performance IMHO is to get the filesystem defragmented, period - and so in that case, then the built-in solution is fine, allthough the other 3'rd party defragmenters generally are both faster, defrags more files, consolidates free space and defrags most NTFS metadata also, in addition to the above mentioned intelligent file-placement schemes...
  16. I previously used the MPC version from the guliverkli2 project, since i didn't though that i had any use of the new functionality in MPC-HC, as i didn't use the VMR renderers and hence, had no use for the D3D full-screen anti-tearing mode,(i preffer the overlay mixer renderer for it's speed, color-corectness and stability), and since i didn't have any use for the EVR renderer either, and finally since my video card where to old to use bitsreamed H.264 DXVA mode, and then i thought that i could just as well use the more "vanilla" MPC version, so as to avoid possible newly introduced bugs from the new features implemented in MPC-HC... However, i have just first now discovered that MPC-HC also has added internal Xvid/DivX(mpeg4-asp) decoding from FFmpeg's libavcodec library(the same as ffdshow uses), in addition to the H.264 and VC-1 decoders that i allready knew about, so this means that MPC now resembles MPlayer in that it with a single executable can decode Xvid, DivX, H.264, AC3, DTS, AAC etc. So with MPC-HC, then ffdshow is now also optional, if not using it's post-processing features, or some of it's other supported formats which MPC dosen't support, that is... Sorry, you all of course now this allready, but i just found out about it know, as it wasen't listed as a new feature on the MPC-HC homepage, except in the changelog section...
  17. VLC uses FFmpeg's libavcodec directly and doesen't support DShow decoders like ffdshow...
  18. You haven't deleted the built-in admin account, as that's not possible by normal means atleast, so login to that account and from there restore the old account or create a new user account... You log into the built-in admin account by typing the user-name: Administrator and then a blank password(unless you've configured a password...) When you're into the built-in admin account, you can run 'net user' in a cmd prompt to see which accounts are still on the system...
  19. It's fine by me if you don't want to use EAC, or any other app which doesn't rip straight to Speex without an interim WAV step, but nonetheless, then please note that apps like EAC obviously does not rip and encode to compressed WAVs unless you specifically tell them to do so! They of course normally rip to uncompressed WAVs, which is straight PCM audio samples with a 44 byte WAV header in-front... The only thing you archive with ripping and encoding on-the-fly to a compressed format is effeciency and nothing quality-wise whatsoever... EAC dosen't feature on-the-fly ripping/encoding support to the Speex format, but it does support queued compression, which means that it rips the next track while encoding the previous, so it's nearly the same... The reason i suggested EAC, where that it features support for things like AccurateRip, C2 error pointers, re-reading, cache-flushing, sector synchronization, HTOA(hidden-track-one-audio) and image/cuesheets ripping etc.
  20. Yes, as above, then my preffered playback solution is: MPC for it's nice clean looks and powerfull backend, coupled together with ffdshow tryouts for decoding/post-processing/subtitling and then optionally Haali Media Splitter(if wanting a more advanced splitter than MPC's internal MP4/MKV/OGM/AVI source filters) and VSFilter(if wanting a more advanced subtitle filter than the internal ones of ffdshow and MPC)... clsid's MPC builds from guliverkli2 project (last rev. from Gabest with updated libs, patches and small changes): http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.p...ckage_id=245753 Or - casimir666's MPC mod: MPC-HC (last rev. from Gabest with updated libs, patches and also new development, like e.g. DXVA enabled H264 decoder, EVR renderer and fullscreen d3d anti-tearing mode etc): http://mpc-hc.sourceforge.net/ Coupled with - ffdshow tryouts: http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/ And optionally - Haali Media Splitter: http://haali.cs.msu.ru/mkv/MatroskaSplitter.exe VSFilter: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.p...lease_id=541232 For audio, then of-course: foobar2000
  21. Another nice tool that i prefer for these things is Regshot unicode. It captures the tweaks directly to reg or inf file-format and is freeware... On my system, then after having installed Win2k, then the primary IDE controller is setup as DMA, but the secondary controller in PIO mode, so i use the following regtweak: Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E96A-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0002] "UserMasterDeviceTimingModeAllowed"=dword:ffffffff
  22. Then just do what DigeratiPrime suggested and setup EAC to use speexenc.exe as external command-line encoder... I have never used speex before, but it should be something like: F11 > 'External Compression' > 'Use external program for compression' Parameter passing scheme: User Defined Encoder Use fileextension: .spx Browse > speexenc.exe Additional command-line options: %s %d Untick 'Add ID3 Tag'. Under 'Additional command-line options' i have only used '%s %d' which is source and destination filename, since i don't know what quality you want, or which tags speexenc.exe supports, but here are the EAC variables available for the tags: %a CD artist %g CD title %t Track title %y Year %n Track number %m music genre
  23. Most ppl probably allready know this, but just in case that someone didn't, then here follows MPC's command-line switches for setting file-associations silently... /regvid ; sets all video formats to MPC /regaud ; sets all audio formats to MPC /unregvid ; unsets all video formats from MPC /unregaud ; unsets all audio formats from MPC Example install script: xcopy mplayerc.exe "%programfiles%\Media Player Classic\" "%programfiles%\Media Player Classic\mplayerc.exe" /regvid Updated MPC builds (Guliverkli2 project): http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.p...ckage_id=245753 ffdshow tryouts: http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/
  24. 2. You can use Microsoft's free command-line utility: qfecheck.exe. The updates are generally also listed under this regkey: 'HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates'.
  25. @FDV Thank's for your help, mate - it's much appreciated Btw, nice to hear that you're going to make an IE-enabled fileset also, so the IE-fixated ppl now also has something to play with, although i myself would have a very hard time going without your original IE-removal fileset, which on my system clocks in at alittle under 33MB commit, has no problems whatsoever, and does a great job of fooling the few IE dependant apps i occasionally run into, into thinking that IE actually is installed Thank's again, mate
