    Windows Updates

Hi Tom Two small things about your Win2k list: Listed twice: Windows-KB909520-v1.000-x86-ENU.exe Wrong description: Windows2000-KB967715-x86-ENU.EXE; it's marked as junk and described as "Autorun disable...", but by reading the KB article through, then it states that the update dosen't disable autorun, and i'm not sure that it's really "Junk": "The updates that this article describes fix a problem with the disable Autorun feature. Without these updates, Autorun for a network drive cannot be disabled" And: Does this update change my current Autorun settings? No. The update does not change the current Autorun settings on your system. Instead, the update lets users correctly enforce Autorun settings.
  2. As i didn't recieve a reply from the FSF, then i sent another mail to them some time ago, and now i've finally recieved a reply:
  3. 'Regshot unicode' supports outputting the changed reg-entries directly to reg or inf files and with undo's to... The homepage is down at the momment, but it can be googled from other places easilly...
  4. Just wanted to add that i haven't recieved answer from FSF yet, and that even though i should get a reply that said that i was wrong, then i would of course still post it! (but as i said, then the auto-generated reply stated that if the question was allready answered in their FAQ, then i wouldn't get a reply!) Anyway, i found a couple of quotes from 'J.B. Nicholson-Owens', which i believe explains this pretty good: Source: http://www.figuiere.net/hub/blog/?2004/12/...-supporting-ogg Source: http://lists.ibiblio.org/pipermail/cc-lice...ary/001522.html Then when reading the link provided above, then FSF states this: Source: http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/historical-apsl.html
  5. Yeah, the classic installers by default sets all icons, but the MSI installer dosen't set any icons and hence, needs to be defined on the command-line(btw, for MSIs, then you can safely skip the 'msiexec /i').
  6. @PMikeP Everything in the FDVFILES folder is copied to SOURCESS\I386, and then you just install the INFs you need after having installed Windows from the SOURCESS folder. Don't do it before running HFSLIP, since that has only effect on the running installation.

    Windows Updates

On the Win2k page, then this link dosen't work: (page dosen't exist anymore) IE6.0sp1-KB963027-Windows2000-x86-ENU.exe: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...c12f9d69b03b%5C The correct link is: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en (I'm not using IE6 myself, but discovered the issue while updating the HFSLIP folder structure for my fathers PC, and he insists on keeping IE around for bad webpages)
  8. Sorry, i just wanted to clarify something that i forgot in my previous post... 1. Personally, then I believe that the GPLv2 license itself dosen't allow restricting usage(forget about FAQs and whatnot, as they are just explaining what the license states in laymens-terms). 2. However, then i personally would never use the previous GPL'ed HFSLIP versions for commercial usage, since even though i belive that it's legal, then i would still as a first priority obey what Tommy wishes for his app! Just wanted to clarify that even though i disagree with FDV and Tommy on this, then i would still follow whatever they have said to the letter! Anyway, i see Tommy and FDV as friends of mine, and i hope that this litle argument here, will not make you guys feel bad about me... CU, Martin. Edit: I have written to the FSF's licensing section about this and when i get a reply, then i'll post it here, but i dont think that i'll get a reply, because after i sent the mail, then i got an auto-generated message back which said that i would get an answer later on, but it also stated: And since this exact question is allready answered in there own FAQ, then i'll probably not get a reply back... Edit2: In FSF's 'The Free Software Definition', then they explain what they feel about usage, so no matter if believing that the GPLv2 license itself allows usage-restrictions or not(i still don't), then choosing a license from these guys and then stating 'Not for commercial usage' or whatever, isn't very good IMHO, so i'm glad that Tommy has changed the license: Source: http://www.fsf.org/licensing/essays/free-sw.html
  9. The GPLv2 license dosen't allow making further restrictions, and the usage isn't restricted by the GPLv2 license: And again, that's why the GPL FAQ states: The GPLv2 license wasen't fitting Tommy's copyright wishes and hence, i'm glad that he has changed the license, so that he can rightfully enforce on whatever he pleases
  10. I know that you've allready gotten an alternative solution, but to answer your original question, then use this in nLite's 'Runonce' tab: @xcopy %source%Apps\Bureau "%allusersprofile%\Bureau\" /eh >nul
  11. The Windows Installer service i.e. msiexec.exe is set to manual by default(i checked on Black Viper's Win2k-Pro-SP4 services reference page), and i have also never had a problem with having it set as manual, as it always starts on demand for me. It uses about 2.5 megs. When using HFCLEANUP, then i get danish keyboard by making an underscore infront of 'KBDDA.DL' in 'ZZZ_ENGLISH_ONLY.rem', so that the file isn't deleted and isn't filtered out of inf's. I know that this of course isn't HFCLEANUP, but im just refering to that it is the only file i know of(danish keyboard layout file). Is that enough ? I have just finished doing a test install, and i haven't got time now to check everything out, but i will report back later. However, these are the issues during the install: files needed: agt0407.dll on [unknown] MDACrdMe.htm on [unknown] @Registering components: Error registering C:\WINNT\system32\amstream.dll Error registering C:\WINNT\system32\bdaplgin.ax Edit: OK, back home now... These are the issues i currently found, although maybe i'm wasting my breath here, as it might be bacause of the above errors, i dunno... Anyway, just in case, then i'll list them here: No languages other than english, even though i ammended syssetup.inf as per the instructions. In the start menu, there's a 'Documents' and a 'Help' entry, and the start menu dosen't use small icons anymore. Windows Explorer hasen't been tweaked, so file-extensions are hidden, hidden files are hidden etc. etc. .TXT and .LOG files cannot be opened, and Windows ask where to find NOTEPAD.EXE... No 'Show Desktop.scf' in quick launch. The Windows Installer service was set to manual and not auto as per the changelog, but i don't have a problem with that. Thanks in advance, mate
  12. @FDV In txtsetup.sif then 'uniata' and 'iteatapi' should be commented out under [sCSI.Load]. Btw, is the commenting-out of 'msoe50.inf,Uninstall' in syssetup.inf under [infs.Always] an error or intentional ? @All Untill FDV gets around to fixing it, then do the txtsetup.sif change by yourself to stop the install from failing during textmode-setup...
  13. Well, the easiest for you would probably be to use nLite to integrate a post-SP3 update-pack(RVMs/Xables etc.), your drivers, pre-made program-addons, and then setup unattended settings and possibly remove unwanted components... There are a wealth of info to read-up on, about how to use nLite + a dedicated MSFN sub-forum...
  14. @fdv: 1. Would it be possible for me to change NONENG.INF, so that only the danish language is installed, and not the rest ? 2. Why do you by default also keep Cyrillic and Hebrew ? 3. Why msiexec changed to autostart ? Thanks in advance.
  15. Wow, that's really impresive, mate! Thanks alot for continuing with refining this awesome win2k fileset of yours!!! (To be honest, then i was affraid that you wouldn't concentrate on your win2k fileset anymore, now that you had changed over to using XP and making a XP fileset, but luckilly, then you proved me wrong!...) I'll be testing it in a few days time or so... Again, thanks alot fdv - YOU ROCK!!!
  16. Sorry, i don't know about in relation to this script, but the sed version that i prefer is minised, as it's about 5 times faster and 70% smaller than the normal sed implementation(GNU sed). Personally, then i prefer gsar, as my favorite "find'n replace" tool, which also is lightning fast(the search algo is modified to treat all input files as binary), lightweight and supports in-file replacements(like the newest GNU sed versions). Just my 2 cents

    IE8 support?

Yeah, my vote is also for dumping IE7, as IE8 is the latest stable, and hence, no need to bloat hfslip up by letting it support slipstreaming of outdated stuff...
  18. Sorry for nit-picking here, but i just wanted to add to your description of the /integrate switch, that it will also actually slipstream the updated binaries into the install-source. Not that it has anything to do with your issue of course... Sorry for the interuption, mate
  19. I'm using Jkdefrag, since it's very lightweight, fast, features several optimization strategies and is freeware/open-source http://www.kessels.com/Jkdefrag/
  20. Yes, if there's EXEs in svcpack with direct integration on, then nlite couldn't slipstream those updates, and instead has runned those updates with their /integrate switch, which will slipstream the updated binaries into the source and also places a copy of the updates into svcpack and references them to run at T-13 in svcpack.inf(the updates still needs to run at T-13 for getting the reg-entries added and any possible post-install commands like registering files etc.). Please advice that if you leave the direct integration option switched off for all your updates, then you'll have a bigger source and a slower install...
  21. It's a personal preference, really... I myself prefer to use an imaging app to restore/backup my system partition, as it just takes a few minuttes(unattended with a Ghost 2003 DOS boot floppy). Then i also on each patch-tuesday download the new MS updates, fire HFSLIP up(also completelly unattendedly), and then i have a 100% up-to-date ISO, which i can burn and install from, whenever i feel like it... Of course you could also just use the CD as a restore solution, but i just preffer the effeciency of imaging instead(in my case, then the Ghost restore process is ~25 secs...). I reinstall from CD about once every 3 month, and then i make a backup image, and then restore back from that image about once a week or so(i do much experimenting, and my system is to slow to use a VM for that)... Just my 2 cent's
  22. No, it's still just the four listed in his tutorial that we should avoid, as far as i know...
  23. KB908531v2 shouldn't be included when using FDV's fileset, as it still includes the shell-patroller 'Verclsid.exe'. It's just the second revision of that update, which fixes an issue with explorer sometimes hanging with it's first revision...
